Honestly, I dunno what GM was thinking. maybe if the rear end wasn't so short, or at such a radical angle, it could have worked. Chrysler did a much better job implementing the bustle back deck lid on their Imperial.
My grandfather owned a 1985 Cadillac Seville Elegante with a wheel on the back of the trunk, cream colored exterior and interior, and it had those classic wheels with the signature Seville cursive engraving. He owned it from 1985-2009. My grandfather babied that thing. Sadly he had to get rid of it because he couldn't find parts for the fixes. The 245HP/345TQ factory rating, was for the 1987 Grand National. The GNX, which had a higher boost Garrett turbo, Bigger wheels/tires, panhard bar, etc was factory rated at “276HP/360TQ”, but you’re right with it being at minimum 300HP/380-400TQ. Great job on the video. I’ll never forget when our neighbor came home with his brand new 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 diesel and admitting he paid $11,000 for it. It was shocking for a car to be over 10k in December 1977. Luckily for him, the diesel was reliable until a dislodged oil filter O-ring caused rod bearing failure at 111,000 miles. You are one of my favorite channels, your content is amazing! My dad raised my brother and I to love cars since a young age, so those videos very nostalgic.
At age 63 I love the fact that someone your age is learning about and presenting the history of these cars. I remember them all . Nice job in presentation esp. in adjusting $$ prices for inflation, it makes it easy for your generation to relate to true cost. I also like that you use the modern day equivalent cars as to make it easier for younger generations to know how these older cars were once positioned. Video was nice length, not too short nor too long. I would just delete or lower the back ground music as it was distracting (at least for me) and yes, better audio quality would be great. Keep up the nice work and I subbed your channel. Mike in San Diego.
I owned a 1976 Ford Granada Ghia Sedan and a 1977 Lincoln Versailles at the same time. While the V is in fact as you described it, “A redesigned Granada” it most certainly didn’t drive like one. My Versailles had the 351 Cleveland engine. The Granada had a 302. The Granada weighed in at just about 3000lbs. The V was a bit over 5000lbs. It was common knowledge that the V was the test bed for all the innovations that went into the 1980 Continental. I thoroughly enjoyed mine and if it weren’t for the sub-par dashboard that hasn’t stood the test of time well, I’d happily get another. I got a 1979 Continental Town Car instead.
@@johneckert1365The Windsor engines were available in several displacements including a 302 cubic, 4.9 liter and 351 5.8. But everyone calls the 302 a 5.0 because it sounds better.😊😊 The Cleveland engine was a 335.
Great job on this video I had a 77 Lincoln Versailles one of my first cars Graduating in high school in 78. All of my friends had Camaros or Firebirds guess I was always into the luxury classic Always love those cars of the late 70s early 80s My girlfriend’s mom had a Lincoln town car huge land yacht Keep up the good work looking forward on your next videos
Too funny. I graduated in 80 but still drove my classic 65 Olds that was our old family car that I had to have (I was into classics). 425 engine. I got into a race with the new Trans AM and won...can't believe I didn't get more tickets back then. I probably won that race because I didn't have all of the pollution control shit that the newer ones had. It only had a 2b carb but it still screamed. Bought my first new car in 80 (grand prix) and I heard that the guy that bought my olds threw a rod in the engine racing it. Sucks.
I recently drove a gold 86 Lincoln Town Car Signature that I'm working on purchasing and I fell in love. I cannot wait to experience all the car has to offer as it's a low mileage survivor. So so impressed with the quality, the ride, the feather light steering, everything. Truly what an automobile is supposed to be.
36 color options on the Versailles! Back then the car one drove was an extension of their personality. It was fun just watching cars go by and learning all their makes and models. "Going for a drive" was a national past time just like baseball and the advertising reflected that.
I grew up with 2 Grand Wagoneer’s in the family. One being our family hauler for many years and the other one I drove to High School during the winters. Great vehicles with tons of personality and it gets a lot of attention.
So much information gained. Very good video. Love my ‘84 Seville & ‘85 Eldorado. The ‘83 Imperial is like driving an aircraft carrier. Huge car but very plush.
Great video! This is definitely my era and you brought back a lot of good memories of me and my dad walking the car lots gasping at the crazy prices of these cars.
Good video! I have often wondered what would have happened with the DeLorean if DeLorean would have used a better V6 engine such as the Buick 3.8 turbo. I think that along with using powertrains from GM probably would have helped him with his political/legal troubles.
@@MrStacy1974 I'm not sure the drug-running charges against DeLorean were substantiated. Several reports saying the bust was a set-up. DeLorean pissed off a lot of suits at GM; I never put it past them to make JZD a fall guy.
The car was built in Northern Ireland therefore they needed a ready available European engine that could be serviced easily in the States. They didn't have the money to import an engine from the US as DMC had just taken a huge loan from the British Government to keep the plant open. The PRV V6 was already in Volvo and Peugeot cars on sale in the US market. In European tune the engine could put out 160hp standard and up to 300hp with turbocharging. Apart from the drugs bust, John DeLorean and Colin Chapman of Lotus (the DMC 12 was based on the Esprit chassis) were being investigated for defrauding the British Government over the loan money. It is believed that if Chapman had lived beyond 1982 he would have been arrested and charged.
The hood ornament from the Chrysler reminded me that a couple of my hoodlum friends in JR High were going around swiping hood ornaments. These guys had bags full of them in their lockers. The Mercedes and Cadillac ornaments were the most highly prized, but they had every marque under the sun. I don’t really know where they found the cars to grab all of them from, because our neighborhood was mostly high end union blue collar families. Our dads were crane operators, elevator repairman, cops, railroad, machinist etc. There were mostly Volvos and Chevys, not Mercedes and Cadillacs. Anyway my friends eventually got caught, and their treasure trove of hood ornaments got confiscated. One of those guys died when we were in Highschool, he wrapped his 84 IROC around a concrete pillar. This video sure brought back the memories!
I will never forget when my Dad brought home a brand new 1981 Seville Elegante. My favorite thing was the door bell sound it made inside when you started the car I imagine for seat. belt reminder!!
This is one of the most interesting car videos I've ever seen😃 I never thought about what these cars would've cost with inflation in 2023. Well done, concise, and well researched.
Great video! Born in the late 60s but I prefer older cars from the 80s and 90s. I’ve had many Lincoln Town Cars, Grand Marquis, Buicks. Loved them all. If gas wasn’t so high, I’d love a Cadillac Seville with the bustle back or an Eldorado from the 80s. Fantastic cars.
Great show 😊 ! I remember these growing up in the 70s and 80s . The Lincoln and Cadillacs were your most expensive American cars . My favorites were the Cadillac Brougham sedan and Lincoln Town cars . My parents owned full-sized station wagons from Chevrolet and Pontiac growing up , my first car was a mid eighties Chevrolet Caprice .
Like some of your other viewers I too lived during this era and though I was young was very interested in automobiles.Your information is spot on and your assessment correct.I am a master technician and would love to talk shop any day. I look forward to seeing more of you channel, too many young people do not appreciate the journey to where we are now.Excellcior!
My uncle just bought a new 1983 Seville , man it was beautiful at the time, black and gray color, with the 4-6-8 motor v8 efi My uncle said he spend exactly 32k plus financing, man that was the price of a house with 2 bedrooms back in the days, And then there was the corvette Calloway twin turbo he forgot to mention in the 80’s error, Car and drivers quotation was, the fastest car ever made in the United States, beating the GNX, is why they said let’s build it, as in 86-87 corvette was in 3rd place, for quickness. The iroc -z with a 5.7 with exhaust and a air filter was dominant to the vette in 1988, so General Motors made the deal with Calloway to build a limited production and make sure it was on every magazine in the world, a hidden secrete we to most knew about, in order to kill them all, in performance…..price tag 100k ish with everything they offered, Only since u mentioned the conv. Company asc ( factory side designer ) I won’t say it, but u did forgot about the mustang Saleen, in price ! And the trans am gta with the notchback fiberglass style, mark up was just over 30k plus digital dash plus rear seats was all costume, my dad paid 38k at dealership for his 1988 model, Last but not least …… A car that beat every car in any year - A car that needed to be said, A car that we all want! And a mark up at that , THE 1989 trans am turbo pace car, that beat the gnx and was the fastest production car in that decade , a price tag at over 35k plus thousand (dealer marks up to) only 555 ever made . That should of been stated, Man ….
Nice video, only thing, the Crown Vic started as a standard nameplate in 1983 as the LTD Crownvic and went out in 2011. Another, is that the GNX and Grand National are two diff cars. The Grand National was rated at 245HP and nearly half the price of the GNX, which was rated at 300 hp. Both were underrated and other than the side fender heat extractors and wheels, both looked the exact same.
In regards to the Imperial FS Edition, the whole story behind the FS model cancellation goes as follows. Mr. Sinatra was given a New Imperial FS for his personal use from Chrysler. Actually, Mr. Sinatra's Imperial FS was the first Imperial produced since 1975, Frank drove it off the production line personally to much fanfare and media coverage. Unfortunately he experienced engine problems related to the Imperial's "Wizard Engine" computer controlled fuel injection. Ofcourse Chrysler promptly serviced the car each time, claiming to have fixed the problem for good. But as Mr. Sinatra navigated his way through Las Vegas traffic one hot afternoon his Imperial conked out, and refused to re-start, leaving him stranded on busy Las Vegas Blvd. in a traffic jam his car was causing . Mr. Sinatra was irate after this embarrassing situation, he immediately contacted Chrysler, presumably Lee Iacocca himself, demanding his name be taken off the Imperial halfway through the car's second year of production. His wishes were met, the FS model was no more.
@@larssandvik1347 lol! Speaking of that movie, i always liked that outrageous '82 Imperial stretch limo that Burt Reynold's character drove, complete with the olive drab paint, and the US white star.
Another Good Job By You!!!! This One really hit home for me because you showed the car i learned to drive as a kid. The Eldorado or Eldo as we called them back in the day!! Lookin forward to seeing your next video!🙏🏼😎👍🏽
The Jeep Wagoneer (and later Grand Wagoneer after Chrysler's acquisition) was so damned full of sole and dripping with style that it remains iconic to this very day. Restored Grand Wagoneers today can cost over 100k in some cases. I've owned an '84 Wagoneer and an '89 Grand Wagoneer. Though they were both averaged around 10 MPG with the AMC 360 V8 and considered "high maintenance" vehicles (plagued with vacuum leaks), they were a dream to drive, like driving somewhere from your living room. A real asphalt magnet in the snow and could tow anything if paired with a towing package.
Very cool pod. I’m 64 and had many of the cars that you showed. The huge problem we had back then was Chrysler, GM, and AMC had some of the worst engines EVER produced. All six cylinders were garbage unless it was a straight 6 in a truck. The 85 Eldorado Biarritz was one of the Hottest selling cars then, as was the Buick Riveria, and Olds Tornado. At that time Oldsmobile was the top seller with the Cutlass, the Delta 88 family car and 98 Regency was hot. Check out during that same year the Olds 442 that came with a Hurst Shifter. Chevy rocked with the intro of the Z28. The trans am Pontiac was hot 1978-82 but got cold when z28 was selling so well. Some of the worst cars ever built was the Chrysler K car, AMC Pacer, Ford Pinto, and Chevy Vega…. Horrible. Check out the 1976-1979 Seville, it was smaller but had a 350 V8 and it drive really well and people still collect. I sold my Buick Riveria 1983 and bought a 1983 Mercedes 300D. They were like tanks you could not kill. Some still have million miles still running. I paid 15800 for the Buick Riveria, and the 300D was 35K back then. In 1978 a loaded corvette L82 was 18000.00. The Eldo Biaritz was 24k. When Ford got rid of the horrible Mustang 2, they went back to V8 and they started selling again. Check out the 78 Bricklin Awesome car. And the best of the best was the Pantera DeTamaso with fords 429 engine. Soooo cool. Those were cool days, Thanks
Great video, I really like your appreciation for these older cars and your inquisitive nature. I do have to comment though regarding the Versailles, It was not simply a tarted up Granada nor Monarch. Lots more sound proofing , advanced, double isolated shocks, as well as a host of technical features that other cars wouldn't even think of for years!
Great personality you have. You don't judge a lot. The engine in the Delorean was a Peugeot/Volvo/Renault V6. Greatings from Flanders in Belgium and keep up the good work.
This was a really enjoyable and well done video. Thank you so much for all your hard work. It is appreciated. It was a fun video for me because I remember these cars when they were new. I saw and sat in them at car shows and dealerships. I to like the sort of oddball vehicles that others don’t. Thank you once again! And please make more.
More heat from this channel. Love to see this content. I know nothing about these old cars since they're like 20 years before my time. I see some of these old luxury cars today and thing they're POS ghetto vehicles but you're channel has really impressed me with how cool and attractive these cars can actually be if they're clean and well maintained
SJ Wagoneers and Cherokees are just plain awesome! Growing up, My dad had a 1979 Cherokee S, Copper metallic with a white roof. I loved riding around in that beast. The only thing that sucked, was the fuel economy. It got 8mpg on a good day, and it had the 2bbl Motorcraft carb on it. The fuel economy actually went up on those 360 AMC engines if you swapped it for an Edelbrock 4bbl and intake!
I really enjoyed your video. I grew up in this era and I am quite impressed with the conclusions you drew about how the automakers ripped off the general public with their poor quality products in response to the fuel crisis. You've certainly done your research. 🙂 Subscribed!
The Mercury Grand Marquis, which was the sister car to the Crown Victoria. The panther cars came out in 1992 and lasted til 2011. The Crown Vic took on the roofline of the Marquis in 1998, so technically, the panther car lasted for 20 model years. The Jeep was 29 model years, so not twice as long. Not being critical, because I am impressed with your willingness to learn about these great cars. The Versailles came out in April 1977. Yes, it was a glorified Granada, but it was, at least for me , an impressive car. First American car with 4 wheel disc brakes, standard. First American car to utilize base coat clear coat paint. The dash was hand stitched leather, and the seats were a huge upgrade not available on Granada or Monarch. When you compare the Versailles to Cavalier, oh, sorry, the Cimarron. Cadillac used the exact dash as the Cavalier. They should have used the more luxurious looking Buick Skyhawks dash. It is also a J car, so it would work and look better. So, in my opinion, the Versailles was a lot more than a Granada. The first Seville was based on a modified Nova Chassis. Car companies do what they can to make the most money for the least cost to them. Keep up the great work. I really enjoyed this video.
Really enjoyed this one! Little surprised the Caddy Allante wasn't included though.$54700 in 1987....145k now. I can't stress enough how cool it is to see someone passionate about this car era that's before your time!

Really enjoyed this. Great job!
Much appreciated!
I graduated high school in 1985, I remember all these vehicles well…….
Your Versailles didn't have a 351 Cleveland, it had a 351 Windsor........
@@johneckert1365 You’re correct! My dad’s Yellow 1972 Mustang had the 351 Cleveland.
@@johneckert1365The Windsor engines were available in several displacements including a 302 cubic, 4.9 liter and 351 5.8. But everyone calls the 302 a 5.0 because it sounds better.😊😊 The Cleveland engine was a 335.
Love your videos, man. Cool to see a young person interested in the oldies. And your outlook and attitude are top notch. 👍 Keep up the good work.
Thank you man!
Well made video dude. Good job.
Great job on this video I had a 77 Lincoln Versailles one of my first cars
Graduating in high school in 78.
Sucks.
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate that🤝
That humpback Seville looks absolutely amazing. I love that body so if you don’t you’re crazy.
Great video. I remember all of these cars. The Caddy back then took the laughing stock with most of us claiming an elephant stepped on the trunk.
Thank you man, and that’s hilarious😂
Awesome video I love the 80s! The style, cars, big hair, interior decor for homes and the music everything
My sentiments exactly!!!
We love your channel!! Please keep up the great work. ❤
Loving these videos. Thanks for making them!!!
My pleasure man!
I recently drove a gold 86 Lincoln Town Car Signature that I'm working on purchasing and I fell in love. I cannot wait to experience all the car has to offer as it's a low mileage survivor. So so impressed with the quality, the ride, the feather light steering, everything. Truly what an automobile is supposed to be.
this is just beautiful cars specially because it's from the 80 s best time on earth my childhood
Thank you!
This is the best video I have watched all month, great job man keep up the good work, please make more content!!
I only started watching your videos a few weeks ago and have seen almost all of them now. I really enjoy them when relaxing.
You got a new follower. I enjoyed your vid and commentary. I even laughed. You're doing a fine job.
Thanks a lot! Excellent work. Enjoyed the video, subscribed and looking forward to more content.
Great video! This is definitely my era and you brought back a lot of good memories of me and my dad walking the car lots gasping at the crazy prices of these cars.
It’s awesome learning about these cars, thank you for the comment man!
I remember all of these very well. It's very helpful that you estimated these in year 2023 dollars, too.
I was born 1980.. I love 80s and 90s vehicles
Agreed! Born in '79. Reminds me of the cars I would see riding around as a kid in the family minivan.
I had a 1980 Seville triple yellow with an Oldsmobile engine swap. Loved the car. Thank you for sharing.
I would love to own a couple of those old cars because they were plush and now they're easy to work on and cost less to replace parts😊
Good video! I have often wondered what would have happened with the DeLorean if DeLorean would have used a better V6 engine such as the Buick 3.8 turbo. I think that along with using powertrains from GM probably would have helped him with his political/legal troubles.
Thank you man!
American drivetrain probably wouldn't have helped with his legal problems , he was busted running drugs to support his company.
John DeLorean left GM on bad terms. I doubt they would have partnered with him on the drivetrain. They prob cheered when the Feds tried to get him.
I feel so bad for that IROC -Z.
Your channel is severly underrated my guy.
Keep going!
I will never forget when my Dad brought home a brand new 1981 Seville Elegante. My favorite thing was the door bell sound it made inside when you started the car I imagine for seat. belt reminder!!
This Man is Real TY Sir Poster
Looove the Corvette ZR1, 1991!!! White on the outside and red in the inside. To meee, that is the Corvette colours!!! .-)
The delorian was magic to touch , it was so smooth
So true! Happy New Years 🎆
thx for not using AI! That Seville was GORGEOUS at least to me at the time.
Of course man, I love cares and am a real enthusiast😎
Please don’t stop posting! Love the videos man 💪
I appreciate that, thank you
Like some of your other viewers I too lived during this era and though I was young was very interested in automobiles.Your information is spot on and your assessment correct.I am a master technician and would love to talk shop any day. I look forward to seeing more of you channel, too many young people do not appreciate the journey to where we are now.Excellcior!
Thank you man, very kind of you to say
great video again. keep it up
Thank you man, I appreciate that!
These videos keep getting better and better.
My uncle just bought a new 1983 Seville , man it was beautiful at the time, black and gray color, with the 4-6-8 motor v8 efi
My uncle said he spend exactly 32k plus financing, man that was the price of a house with 2 bedrooms back in the days,
And then there was the corvette Calloway twin turbo he forgot to mention in the 80’s error,
Car and drivers quotation was, the fastest car ever made in the United States, beating the GNX, is why they said let’s build it, as in 86-87 corvette was in 3rd place, for quickness. The iroc -z with a 5.7 with exhaust and a air filter was dominant to the vette in 1988, so General Motors made the deal with Calloway to build a limited production and make sure it was on every magazine in the world, a hidden secrete we to most knew about, in order to kill them all, in performance…..price tag 100k ish with everything they offered,
Only since u mentioned the conv. Company asc ( factory side designer )
I won’t say it, but u did forgot about the mustang Saleen, in price !
And the trans am gta with the notchback fiberglass style, mark up was just over 30k plus digital dash plus rear seats was all costume, my dad paid 38k at dealership for his 1988 model,
Last but not least ……
A car that beat every car in any year - A car that needed to be said, A car that we all want!
And a mark up at that ,
THE 1989 trans am turbo pace car, that beat the gnx and was the fastest production car in that decade , a price tag at over 35k plus thousand (dealer marks up to) only 555 ever made .
That should of been stated,
Man ….
I stumbled across your channel and it's definitely a new favorite
Nice video, only thing, the Crown Vic started as a standard nameplate in 1983 as the LTD Crownvic and went out in 2011. Another, is that the GNX and Grand National are two diff cars. The Grand National was rated at 245HP and nearly half the price of the GNX, which was rated at 300 hp. Both were underrated and other than the side fender heat extractors and wheels, both looked the exact same.
These are great videos. Only just found this channel, and your content for niche cars is definitely one for me! 👌🏻
Great 👍 video and I am so glad you did your research!!! I am a car enthusiast and an 80s baby. I knew people who had some of these vehicles.
Tremendous video - interesting viewpoints and well researched. Just subscribed, thanks
Thank you for sharing this
I love watching cannonball run 2 with Frank Sinatra with him driving the Dodge Daytona. Trying to win absolute craziness.
@@larssandvik1347 lol! Speaking of that movie, i always liked that outrageous '82 Imperial stretch limo that Burt Reynold's character drove, complete with the olive drab paint, and the US white star.
@@ThreeWheelFlyer duh duh duh. Have no fear I am here.
Great video. Also the inflation adjusted prices make give it a very interesting perspective
Another Good Job By You!!!! This One really hit home for me because you showed the car i learned to drive as a kid. The Eldorado or Eldo as we called them back in the day!! Lookin forward to seeing your next video!🙏🏼😎👍🏽
Right on!
Spent my teens and some of my 20s in the 80s, so many of these cars were under rated. Really cool things.
You're doing a great job with your videos so I subscribed! I was born in 62 so I like seeing some of the older cars that you showed.
Thank you so much man!
Great personality you have. You don't judge a lot.
The engine in the Delorean was a Peugeot/Volvo/Renault V6.
Greatings from Flanders in Belgium and keep up the good work.
Cool rtopic and review - gotta love the 1980’s, cheers from Brisbane
Des automobiles de mon époque vraiment MAGNIFIQUES ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You’re a man after my own heart❤
I love that you like these cars too.
I’ve owned a few of those on your list including the 81 Imperial
Thx for the video, great job. I’ve driven most of these cars except the Imperial Sinatra and that last one featured I did not recognise.
Well done! Great presentation and very informative!
Thank you kindly!
Thank you very much!
Thank you man!
The Grand Wagoners are just soo cool!
So classy!
@@GreenHawkDrive looks like the 1963 Studebaker Wagonaire...
Thank you man!
According to Wiki, the Panther was used from 1979-2012.
Well done , I lived through those years and you taught me more , thanks
Thank you man!
Very informative, great commentary + the visuals! Keep it up
Much appreciated!
Even though I am a 2001 model human, I love 80s and 90s American luxury, and one day, I'll own an extensive collection.
Really enjoyed this one! Little surprised the Caddy Allante wasn't included though.$54700 in 1987....145k now. I can't stress enough how cool it is to see someone passionate about this car era that's before your time!
I have one hence I didn’t get that either. He’s young might not know!!
@joshmetzger5031 Thats cool! I did a vid on the Allante recently.....I thought Greenhawk saw it lol. It's got to be one of the most expensive "mainstream" domestics of the 80s. Hes got great vids..I forgot about the Sinatra edition myself LOL.
Dude your videos are great. Informative and you have a pleasant voice. I listen and watch all the time. If making these videos is what makes you happy, keep going! You have a sub here!
Just found this channel. I love your laid back style. I never heard of that Frank Sinatra edition Imperial. That’s wild !
What beautiful American styling, rectangle boxes.
