Finally I got the chance to head back to Scotland for some Wildlife Photography the aim was the Black Grouse Lek, I teamed up with friend and Wildlife Photographer Espen Helland. We traveled to his secret site to photograph these amazing birds from a hide in the most wonderful location.

That looked wonderful Richard. Really love it up there and it just so happens with my daughter moving to Aberdeen Uni for four years in October I have an excuse to head up that way😉 Some cracking images and footage mate, spectacular when the light finally hit the Lek.👍👍
Thanks Scott, it was an awesome experience and was on the list for sometime! Great that you've got that option when visiting your daughter, rude not to pop over for some Lek action. When the light came up it transformed the images, from cold and frosty to warm and soothing was nice, Espen's backlit shots were incredible, next time I'll got for those shots, the Grouse breathing out the cold air with smoke trails are hard to beat! Great video, Richard. I couldn't believe the noise they made when I went up there with Espen. Glad to hear you panting a bit on the walk up. It wasn't just me then:-) It's well worth the effort, a fantastic experience and you had some beautiful light.
Thanks Andrew, an incredible range of vocals and so loud! Yes, a little puffy going up as we did yomp quite quick but it was good to get the exercise, back down much easier!! The light was perfect after a heavy frost! Espen got some cracking backlit images! That will be my spot next time, lol.. Cheers R 👍

Great experience Richard, helicopter required, but worth the overnight camp an amazing romp with a purpose ! I am going to Kintyre West Scotland but will be sticking to more accessible wildlife myself ! But hats off to you and Espen for a marvellous episode !

Scotland is an awesome place with SO MUCH to see and do. I went last year for a week at Aigas. So got to see/photograph loads of different wildlife that I would never ever see down here in the south. Love to go back to Scotland again in the future!
Thanks very much, it certainly was and was worth the wait and freezing temperatures, lol.. I've been to Aigas, loved it there and such great work by Sir John Lister Kay and his team! @@RichardBirchett Yes I was very fortunate to see and photograph the Pine Martin from their hide, but it didn't turn up the 1st time(2 badgers did though). So managed to get in the hide the next night(a couple of people from another group didn't want to go??) and the Martin turned up WOOHOO! (which didn't please the daily outing group I was in, because they wanted to see it). So the moral of that story is, if you don't ask you don't get!!. And yes, Aigas is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see the wildlife and scenery of Scotland

Brilliant mate! Having done a few early morning stakeouts myself, though not black grouse yet, I fully understand the buzz you experience here. Like you say, no noise from traffic, aircraft etc, just the joyous sound of birds welcoming the new day. All the best! 👍🏻
