Hi Richard. Look at all these comments! When I first started watching your vlogs there'd only be a handful of comments and it's so great to see so many more people finding and appreciating your content, it's very well deserved. And incredible that you still reply to every comment. Just wanted to drop a note to say that I love all your content when you're out in nature and that's what I watch for. It's great when you see wildlife but I'm glued to your content mostly just so I can experience UK's nature and learn from your knowledge of it, so please never feel pressure to only show the vlogs where you find what you're looking for, I love them all. Of all the UA-cam photographer vloggers I've seen, you're also the most personable and articulate - you're a great presenter. Hope you continue making content for a long time. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this, I always look forward to watching your videos.
Wow, that is without doubt one of the nicest comments I've ever received since I started my UA-cam journey! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, hearing this really does make all the effort of getting out there vlogging my time in nature, editing the videos and images worthwhile. Great to know you've been following me for so long, thanks again for all your continued support on the channel. All the very best R 😀👍
I managed to spend 18 months working in Canada during 1989/90. I lived in Cornwall Ontario a few dozen miles south of Ottawa. Such lovely people and wonderful countryside to enjoy. Nice and easy to travel from Cornwall over the river to America and Vermont which is one of my favourite places.
Thanks Jon, and awesome that you've had time there, such amazing people and a beautiful rich and diverse country! Think I'll be having fun with lots of travel planned, lol.. Cheers R 👍
Hi Richard, good to hear you are coming to Canada. I am in Calgary which is beside the Rocky Mountains. Lots of opportunities for birds at various wetlands near Calgary such as Frank Lake. There are many wetlands all over in this area. Winter here is great for Snowy Owls all within half hour of the city. Banff, Kananaskis, Highwood Pass plus many more areas all exceptional for Elk, Deer, Bear, Eagles. These areas are all an hour or two of Calgary. There is no shortage of memory card fillers out here.
Thanks very much Larry, great to hear I have a few followers living in Canada, the help you give me is very much appreciated and I will be sure to investigate all the recommended places. Wow, Snowy Owl is on the list, with Elk Deer, Eagles all getting me rather excited, lol.. Such a new range of species with such varied habitats will surely be such an exciting time for us all. Awesome information, thanks for taking the time to hep me out. Cheers R 👍😀
Best of luck with the Buzzards Richard. Great news about Canada, bet you cant wait pal👊🏼👌🏼🇨🇦
Thanks mate, work in progress... It is mate, so looking forward to it, albeit a long way off still.. Cheers R 😀👍

Amazing news about your move to Canada Richard, what a fantastic opportunity for you, and as important, experience for your family. I would recommend touching base with Peter Mckinnon (i'm sure you've heard of him). He's an amazing photographer and videographer, and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to show you the amazing places Toronto has to offer.
Thanks Jason it really is so exciting and daunting but always love a challenge and great for my boy! I follow him and will hopefully get in contact nearer the time, that's if he's not to busy. all the best R 👍
Brilliant vlog mate. Hope to see more action on the next one.

Cheers Craig, lets hope so mate it was probably just a week to 10 days too early but great to have everything setup ready for the breeding season. Cheers mate, very exciting on the move! R 👍
Such a shame that you didn’t get some photos but sounds like there will be a lot to look forward to.
Lovely deer totally relaxed and so close.
Just shows how much time and patience needed to get a result, well done.
You certainly have some wonderful adventures ahead too.Look forward to seeing them !🤗
I know Alison, it is a shame but you can't always get the results but I will try again and again until we see some result's, lol... Nice to put a bit trail camera footage in to make it a little more interesting! Thanks, Canada is certainly going to be an adventure for us all! Cheers R 👍

Thanks Richard, it's going to be an awesome experience for sure! Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to check him out. Cheers R 👍
Tall thin woodland gotta watch out for those "widow makers" as they call them before they fall. Was out in my local woodland a few weeks ago and had one fall about 50 feet pretty close to me lol. Love your channel Richard. Happy days outdoors even with little to no photography. Stay safe and safe travels friend.
Hi Kevin, there is some beauty window makers in there, going to get in and sort the trees out once the nature have breed and the autumn approaches... Had a couple come down when I've been in there! Pretty scary when they come down! Thanks for the kind words, it's people like you that keep me producing content regardless of the results. Cheers my friend. R 👍
Hi Richard congratulations on your news to Canada I’m sure it will be great success, fantastic vlog this week like we’ve often said it’s not always about the photos it’s about being there listening and watching, you certainly got fantastic trips coming up was it last year when met up with Espan looking for mountain Hare’s that was cold and windy it made me feel cold And I was watching the video 😂😂,the Mull trip sounds fantastic, thank Richard for taking the time and producing a fantastic video your tips and advice really come in handy, have a great holiday take care. Martyn
Thanks Martyn, we are all very excited with the news about Canada, long way off but lots to plan and time seems to fly these days! Yep, lots planned and very much looking forward to the Lek and the Mull adventures in the landy! Had a great time with Espen last time, although it was freezing for May, lol.. My pleasure, cheers R 👍
Great Buzzard location Richard, really looking forward to the update.
Thanks to you both, it was an early video but nice to get in and check out the site, more to come from the resident Buzzards soon. Cheers R 👍
Ah, buzzards Richard, had to build myself up to watch this one after the struggles I'm having!! Nice to know it's not just me mate. My pair I suspect are nest building across the other side of the river and have completely disappeared for the minute. I'm hanging in there!! I'm pretty sure you'll love Canada mate👍👍
Thanks for watching Scott, it's hard going for people watching maybe but for me just being there out in Nature and playing the waiting game is what it's all about, fingers crossed you get some success with them also. Cheers R 👍
Interesting vlog, shame you didn't manage to get any images/footage but I'm sure you will in the coming weeks. Amazing news for yourself and your family moving to Canada, look forward to the vlogs from there.
Cheers Lee, I think by the time I return home from Scotland they will hopefully be on the nest with some interesting behavioural Buzzarding.... It is a great things to be able to experience, we are all very excited. Cheers R
We have all had those days Richard, lost count how many time I've drawn a blank with wildlife, at the very least were out in nature. looking forward to videos on your Canadian adventure.
Yep, it's the normal way of things but will never stop me getting out there enjoying what the natural world has to offer! It's going to be a great journey for the family. All the best R 👍
Great video, Richard. Good luck in Canada. It'll be awsome and I'll look forward to seeing your vlogs from there. First tip, remember to shout 'Hey Bear!';-)
Cheers Andrew, it really will be and thanks for the advice, lol.. I'll sure to keep my eyes peeled for any potential bears!!! R 👍
Another great vlog Rich - excited to see the updates with the Buzzards, I just love those birds 👍 Enjoy Scotland and the Canada news...amazing! 🤩
Hi Rob, thanks very much for watching! Hoping when I get back from Scotland I'll be able to see a bit more action from them all being well! Thanks very much mate, did you get my email? Cheers R 👍
Looks like exciting times ahead for the Canadian adventure Richard, a bit sad though that we will not be seeing your woodland project coming to fruition - will that be in the pipeline for your return ?
Thanks Glenn, really great adventure for us as a family and me as a wildlife photographer! The Woodland will always be ours and will be my main project when we return home, lots of plans for it and I'll be able to save and achieve all that needs doing by then! Cheers R
Again really enjoyed this post !!! Seriously always a pleasure to watch & listen to your up & coming adventures!! And wow a move to Canada ! What a unbelievable adventures you will have in the future!! Richard wish you so much luck for the future!👍Have a great Easter my FRIEND 👍
Thanks Craig, you can't win them all but it will et busier around the nest by the time I get back from Scotland! Yep, very exciting for us all, and the Wildlife is amazing! You too, all the best R 👍
Great stuff Richard, liked the wee shout out for the Loch :-), hope you manage to make it on your way home ;-), cheers, Darren.
Thanks Darren, a little slow on the Buzzard result but they will come as you well know! My pleasure although I kicked myself as I realised I pronounced it wrong, lol.... I'll get it right when I pop in!! Cheers R 👍
@@RichardBirchett , just think of it as Balguise, wouldn't worry about, everybody here pronounces as bal- gavies to :-)
Wow, exciting news about Canada! Do you need a house sitter for the duration? 🤣 I find my walkstool excellent for bird watching; very light to carry, comfortable and much more durable than cheaper versions. You gets what you pays for. All the best.
Thanks Steve, very exciting for us all, thanks for the offer, lol... Haven't tried it yet but you get what you pay for as you say! Hope you are keeping well, all the best R 👍
Great video again . Richard, look up Cameron Roxberry Photography , great wildlife photography he was in the forces Apache pilot but he has gone the radar lately worth looking at.
Thanks Nigel, I've heard of him and did follow him for a while and probably still do! I will now investigate and see if I can find out some info. Cheers R 👍
Great vlog Richard. Was good to see the developments of your woodland. Fingers crossed the Buzzards settle and you can follow them through the season. Keep up the good work.
Thanks my friend, looking forward to studying the Buzzards through the breeding season, hopefully by the time I get home she might be sitting!Fingers crossed, lol.. All the best R 👍
Looking good for the future Richard ! "Proper planning prevents piss poor performance" so thumbs up from me ! & 6 P's from me 👍
Cheers for the Thumbs up Mark, and I love that phrase and always have, lol.. Cheers R 👍
Good news about your move to Canada Richard and I’m sure many more opportunities will present themselves. How will this affect your woodland project?
Thanks Gary, very exciting time ahead👍! Project still in full swing with more to do on my return. Thanks R
That’s good to know Richard.
Hi Richard great vlog again as usual. Can I ask some advice I have found a buzzards nest on private land where I go with my camera and they are now sitting the problem is the hedges are really tall around the tree and the only position for me to get a clear view is only about 30 MTRS away would I be better setting my hide up before it gets light as putting it up before could mean it getting stolen. I do not want to put any pressure on the birds any advice would be grateful. Thanks again for your time Richard looking forward to the Scotland vlog all the best. Carl
Hi Carl, it's a real problem with leaving hides and camera traps out as nobody seems trustworthy these days! Personally I'd get out there before first light and setup, they won't take kindly to seeing you do it in the daylight and could pick you out even in poor light. Always welfare of the birds first and foremost, I really hope you get some success, please let me know how you get on. Cheers R 👍
Beautiful deer… the woodland is certainly coming alive which is great to see. Sounds like a busy few months for you but looking forward to what you see.
Thanks Gill, it really is and such a lovely time of the year! The deer are daily visitors at the moment which is nice. Thanks R👍
Love your videos. Greetings from the USA. I wish I had the chance to sit in a hide someday! I mostly hike and shoot! We have Turkey Vultures that we call Buzzards. I’ve never seen a nest, so I’m going to be on the lookout for that now. I love the organic flow of your content. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much, it is rather time consuming but I just love being out in Nature even without amazing results. I've seen the Turkey Vultures they are awesome, interesting you call them Buzzards, best of luck with nest finding. all the best R 👍
Great Video, I love buzzards they seem to glide effortlessly in the skies :) Can you share the link to the scrim nets please Richard regards Steve
Hi Steve, thanks for watching mate, they are so great to watch especially breeding displays early in the season with wing folding and diving! Of course, link is in the Vlog description, any problems let me know. Cheers R 👍
Haven't seen you using the RF100-500 in the last few videos, are you having regrets?
I've been using it most of the time when I am out and about mobile, just needed the F4 is the low light and the reach if Tele needed. Will do a Vlog with it soon. No regrets as I love it! Cheers R
As the saying goes mate “That’s the way the cookie crumbles”, at least you show it like it is & it gives those new to wildlife photography some pointers & inspiration to keep at it. Moving on to your travels…. Mate just WOW!
All change for you next year, & I have no doubt that will be amazing for you all.
Are the permanent woodland hide plans & development all on hold for the next few years as a result? Or are you going to push on with it & have someone manage the site for you while you are away? Maybe you’re selling up, to return elsewhere in the UK? Maybe these are questions you aren’t willing to answer publicly on your platform, or not at all.
Whatever you do, wherever you go I wish you all the very best with it, & I will continue to follow your journey.
Best of luck with Espen too, I looked at booking a trip for a Grouse Leck with him, but there’s no availability while I’m up there.
Catch up soon buddy.
Best,
Nick
Thanks very much Nick, I still love it despite the results at the end of it! Plus side when the Buzzards do start it will be action packed, hopefully, lol...
I'm probably putting the hides on hold, but have someone to look after the woods for us, won't be selling up but will rent the house out! Thanks very much mate, really exciting time for us all, you only live once so why not! Cheers mate, enjoy Scotland hope you get some great shots! Yep, the Lek can't wait, shame you couldn't get a place in time. Cheers R
Oh well, just a normal day in the hide. Nature tend to not follow the director in any way 🙂
Indeed Knut, standard for me but the rewards always come in the end, thanks for watching. All the best R 👍
Hope you get the otter in part 2 🤞 If not you wouldn't of gotten it staying @home either.
Bad weather and no shows are part of it, all the more magical when they do show up. Keep it up like the video's.
I sat over 12hours in my Monal V2 for one fox cub shot last weekend. checkbit out on my insta. greetings David
Hi David, thanks for watching! I've just been and checked this morning as I've been away and the Buzzard nest has one young Buzzard in their! Growing fast so need to get back in there soon..Great being in a hide, you never know what's going to evolve in front of you! I'll check it out. Cheers R 👍
