    Welcome back to my Cornish woodland in England where I talk about the healing power of nature and search for some Spring photography subjects using the Canon R3. As well as some recent trail camera footage and work I've conducted since I arrived home.
    Cheers

    Dorothy was probably right, there's no place like home.
    Very much a display of "absence makes the heart grow fonder" from you in this video Richard! I get the impression coming back to your more familiar wildlife is like seeing an old friend.
    Great video, look forward to discovering Canada's wildlife with you as well as your return

      Well said my friend, I don't think I could have possibly said it better, lol. It will be there when I return and it will be full speed ahead for sure. Loving the new wildlife here so much to see and learn. All the best Rich 😀

    Hi Richard, you looked like a contented man back in your woodland, it's a pity you won't see the woodland floor covered in bluebells and fox Cubs this year but more time for the animals to move in while your away in Canada, that's something to look forward too when the family and yourself move back Home.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  3 місяці тому

      I was totally James, and a massive shame I won't get to see the beautiful carpet of Bluebells! Still, when I get home there will be even more, lol.. It's nice to know the animals and birds will get on with life and they are safe and sound in a private area. I've been planning stuff already, so when I get home I will be on it full time. Thanks for watching. Rich 👍

    Oh wow! What I wouldn’t give to have my own woodland. I can see why you miss it, but great that it’s thriving as wildlife habitat and fantastic that the neighbouring field will be reclaimed for nature. 🤞🏻for more fox cubs 🥰
    I do love it over here but also really miss our British countryside and nature. ~Dee

      Thanks very much Dee, I feel very lucky to be able to own such a place and I do miss it lots, even watch my own videos on the woods to remind me they are still there, lol.
      Exciting to see how things progress when I get back, and the Fox Cubs were amazing last year, going to miss them big time. Love Canada's wildlife but I'll always miss homes. Cheers Rich 😀

    Lovely video Richard and I SO empathise with your feelings re your woodland, I certainly miss mine but at least my current rented home I back on to a nature reserve (old deciduous woodland too) but nothing compares with having your own private patch. The next 3 years will whizz by !! Like you I've never had any major mental health issues above life's usual stresses but the woods and countryside always my go to place to unwind and recharge. Enjoying your Canada videos too but don't get me started on the bloody UA-cam algorithm ..suffice to say they never ever seem to help your numbers but just produce new hiccups and was one reason I stopped making mine !! I was in Cornwall in mid March and had the only (relative) decent week and biblical storms the week after !!

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks very much for watching Nigel, yeah it was a hard goodbye to the woods and our home as it might be as long as a year before we go back, all depending on things. This first year has flown by so I'd imagine the next 3 will do the same. We are moving to a new area in a few months and on the wildlife front things will be much better and far more wild so that should keep me busy.
      Yeah, that algorithm is a right pain, I messed around with release times, did a few less a month and boom! UA-cam pulled the rug a bit, not sure if it will get better but it won't stop me producing videos regardless of how they are received or watched. A few people have private messaged me ands said they watch my Canadian ones less and miss my ones from the UK, still lots of others still like to see what Canada has to offer.
      Yeah, you did well there as it's been terrible, hope things improve. All the best and thanks for watching. Rich 👍

    A few thoughts in random point form
    - love your woodland! Great mix of old and newer! Love that it's on a slope!! Mine is just flat ha...
    - love those trees with the wavy spooky Halloween branches you have here and there... idk what they are for you, but in Canada, the tree that most closely matches are called Burr Oak
    - I can't recognise any of the bird calls, trees, or plants! 😂 It's a bit unnerving and disorientating! Maybe a bit of what you felt/feel here at times in Canada
    - you seem refreshed, your woods are like a perfect old sweater, I'm sure
    -Oh! And those tree mosses are stunning! You don't see the over the top moss growth often in Ontario, not until you reach the temprate rainforests of British Columbia or the westcoast below that (Washington state, Northern California)

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  3 місяці тому +1

      No worries and thanks Jon.
      Yeah, the slope adds much needed shelter for a lot of the mammals and birds from the prevailing winds we get. It's quite gnarly in places which adds to the character of it's ancient status, although many of the old Oaks and Beach trees were removed and the fir was planted for industry! Shame but I will hopefully return it back to it's full status in time. The mosses are great and show what a unique climate we have in Cornwall and the South West in general, make for great images.
      Ah yes, thats how I feel when I am here, al feels a bit alien but I am gradually getting better and better on calls and ID's, plus I love a challenge and to learn more about the country.
      You've hit the nail on the head there, it always feels like that and lifts me instantly! Thanks for watching and for sharing my videos I really appreciate the help since I've been here. Cheers Rich 👍

    Great video Richard. You are very fortunate to have acquired a lovely piece of land to set up your own personal nature preserve. I’m currently looking into the concept of Micro or Mini forests. This is where vacant lands, scrub lands and open parkland are converted into areas of high density vegetation (planted with trees and shrubs). For me, purchasing a small acreage of land is really out of the question but buying small plots of abandoned or poor quality land is. These small plots have been shown to significantly increase new habitat for wildlife at a relatively low cost. That said, I look forward with great anticipation to see what you can accomplish with your woodlot in Cornwall. Keep up the good work!

      Hi Keith,
      Yes I do feel blessed to have a little piece of heaven back home, I do miss it as you can tell. Nice one, good for you I hope it goes well and you secure it and make it better for nature! It's amazing what happen when you enhance an area, if nature could thank you it would! When I get home I will be planning loads, hope you can stick with me until then. Cheers Rich 👍
