My goodness, Daniel. Every time I have a question about a coin, I pop on one of YOUR videos. Why? Because you tell it like it is even when you know some collectors may not want to hear it. I would much rather learn "the right way" than possibly putting my foot in my mouth. Thanks for doing what you do, you're a blessing to so many. Never mind the nay-sayers !!

When I started collecting again I would look all over the internet for answers as to what a coin was when I found an odd ‘error’. It was exhausting and I usually didn’t find the info I needed. Then I found this channel and all that changed. If I need info on anything I just go back through your videos. Chances are you’ve covered it in a clear easy to understand way. Thanks. Your work has put the fun back into my little hobby.

When you are first starting out, it is difficult to know which coins have been damaged/altered by outside parties, and which are genuine errors and varieties. I was so grateful for these groups when I was first getting my feet wet with this hobby. Of course, there has to be a willingness to listen even if you are being told something you don't want to hear! I have been doing this long enough now to be able to discern the difference the majority of the time. Just makes me sad that there are folks out there in it for a buck and not for the history and beauty these coins represent. Thanks for making this video, Daniel!

I'm also early into coin collecting, but I am realizing I like the oddities as much as regular coins. I have been collecting vintage damaged coins but not newly damaged coins.

Another great video Dan. I love seeing these kinds of topics because it goes over and refreshes the basics as well as some other stuff you migjt not see as often. Id love to see a video on fakes and counterfeits of all different kinds. Ive been collecting them whenever I get the chance just to study for reference but its getting to be more and more of an issue with these online pieces from far off lands getting better and harder to spot. Anyways keep em comin!!!!!

Hi Daniel, I’ve been watching your videos for about a month or 2 now, I’m a quick learner but would still be considered by most in the Numismatic community, A Novice. you’re obviously an expert on the Num. side and just getting started w/ your online presence. I want you to know that I appreciate all the time and effort you’ve invested in your craft but more so developing it in an area where you’re not an expert but u still have the courage to keep going despite all the adverse effects that you’d never expect! U can’t fake the passion u have for coins and educating on them. “U can’t please everyone”, has almost morphed into “u can’t please anyone,?just try to offend as few people as possible” Which is no way to live. Keep doing what you’re doing, I enjoy it!!

My son found a quarter and had us all going. I put it up on Coin Opp's site for Dustin to look at it. He said it was a coin that sat maybe overnight in cola or even longer. I trust and respect his opinion as well as I would yours. Thanks for the video. I really hate it when people intentionally ruin a coin. All the Best ~ Shirl

Hi Daniel, thank you for this video. I appreciate the knowledge you impart. Yesterday I got change from a machine and found a pitiful looking quarter. I've never seen so many issues with a quarter. I felt very sad for it. If a quarter could speak it would be screaming in pain. I can barely see it's flattened 1980 date because it's actually now a partial cud. There's a brown spot on it, a jagged crack running across it, and gouges, that's just the face side. I just don't understand this. The eagle side is very weird and ripply and the letters are missing or flat. Why would someone destroy this? Now I'm collecting state quarters and creating a collection for my grandkids. I just feel bad about this quarter. I might send pictures to your website. I inherited an enormous coin collection. Now I'm retired and finally I'm able to enjoy it and learn about all of it thanks to pros like you. Thank you for your help.

I've been searching a whole bunch of old rolls lately, and I now have almost a full roll of "WTF?" coins. I honestly don't know how anybody can pick out the DDOs that are so subtle, even on a high grade coin under a microscope. When they're old and heavily circulated, I've basically given up, because otherwise I'd just sit and stare at these bloody things for hours (I've yet to see a 1934 that DOESN'T look like it has doubling on the date). But then there are some that are just so bizarre looking that I've scratched my head wondering what could have possibly caused them. A "D" mint mark on the West side of the obverse, strange lettering on the collar above IGWT, all sorts of peaks and valleys on the planchets... I've just started chucking 'em into a pile. Maybe I'll figure them out someday.

Also-some of the damage could be caused by the coin being laid in concrete. Apparently, some people put coins into concrete for some reason when laying sidewalks and patios back around the 1950’s or 1960’s. When we first moved into the house, there were a couple of coins set into the sidewalks around the house. When removed after decades of exposure and wear, they were very damaged.
