I loved my 2018 M550i, I could never get enough of driving it around because it was so comfortable. Also I couldn’t get enough of pushing that engine which almost got me in trouble a bunch of times! I have recently moved on to the more powerful X5M competition but still have great memories of this car.
@andy roberts No not necessarily harsh but very stiff and controlled. Not much lean and very smooth. After a week I got used to it and feels like any other luxury sports car I’ve driven before.
@@hikeskool I actually purchased it but I only kept it for a little less than four years. It was a 2018 so the first year of the new model and there were a few bugs like that were fixed under warranty. There was a weird error that had nothing to do with it but the seat ventilation or heaters can get condensation so heater elements in the seat were changed, only use tier1 fuel because if not I would hear the engine sound weird sometimes, and finally the car went in a safety limp mode after throwing a malfunction to service immediately and that turned out to be the thermostat that went bad because I let the car sit in my garage for a long period of time. I have to admit that when I first got the car it was fine, then I took it in for service and the updated the software and after that is when the oddness started. Maybe a year in 2019 they updated it again and the car got even faster it felt and I had no other issues. The only issue that really worried me was the thermostat because the symptoms were not normal indicators of a bad thermostat or cooling issues. You have to remember that there a lot of safety systems and electronics involved in this car. Great car though, I enjoyed it.
@@KevinVelazquez7 I never had any real problems with it. Because it was the first year it had one or two bugs in it all covered by the warranty. I r was one problem where the seat heater got condensation on them and had to replaced because it would throw a fault and then go away after I shut it down and restarted it, and then there was a time where I hadn’t driven it for a while and it threw a fault for cooling because it had a bad thermostat and went into limp mode where you couldn’t go over a certain RPM. There was a recall where a new update had to be installed and programmed by the dealership. After that, wow! It was much more powerful and no other problems. I don’t know if the engine was restricted too much where the 2018 models only came with 460 hp and 480 ft/lbs of torque but it was a better performing car after that. As you know the year after that, the same engine was tuned to 523 hp/553 torque. I still see a few the 2018 models around today so they can’t be too bad. There was never any engine issues other than the thermostat problem, but again I didn’t drive for maybe two to three months and it sat in my garage with low mileage at the time.
I have a 2019 M550i. The comment "when you drive this car, you feel like a businessman" is spot-on. It is a magnificent executive sedan, not a sports sedan. MotorTrend nicknamed it "the Rocket Couch" in their long-term review, and that's accurate. But when you drop it into Sport or Sport Plus mode and hit the gas, holy cow it becomes fast and fun!
This is such a good video thank you 🙏 i recently got a c43 and i hated it. I been recommended by many in the direction of BMW M550I and I’m really considering it.
Wow no way. I usually lease and I had this exact car just different engine literally first couple weeks it came out. The 2011 535, I definitely liked it, it’s very similar to this car even though it 7 years later. That’s how BMW is. My wife loved it because she’s more into what this guy is into the bigger professional feel/ look. Now before the AMG and after the BMW we did Lexus for 3 years then I seen the all new C43 AMG. The Year before they had a C400 I believe that was similar. When this car pulled up at my house by the broker I was so happy I can’t even explain it. Just a gorgeous car, it drove so good with the 19 inch setup but my only big disappointment with the car was the tires. These run flat were brutal and of course the wifey didn’t listen to me to get the tire/rim package and what happened? Well first tire blew out maybe 10 days after having it and through the 36 months I went through about 8 tires and cracked the rims 2 times. Anyway so impressed when it went back looked at a couple cars but didn’t want them and got a 2020 c43. Great move cause their smart just 3 years later and the interior was improved sooooo much. Gorgeous. Now I’m divorced and I miss that car. I loved it had 2. Everything I’ve heard from owners has all been positive. If you could break down how you hated it? Not not impressed or slightly let down. But hate. That’s a strong strong word. Thanks guys. Nice vid

I've also heard the same thing. they seem pretty hit or miss I know a few bmw owners how bad no issues and some were nightmares. I really considering a M550i but if I can't get a warranty it's a no go
I'm thinking about buying 2017 - 2019 M550i so I would like to ask: Are there any major issues with the car, engine etc.? Should I be worried? Are the maintenance cost very high or is it comparable with 540i? I cant decide between 540i and M550i. My brain is telling me to go for 540i because of lower consumption and lower maintenance costs and reliability but my hearth is telling me to go for M550i.
I test-drove both. The 540i felt anemic and uninspiring. Then I drove the M550i, COMPLETELY different car. The steering is completely numb, but that engine and suspension are magnificent. I bought the M550i and I love it.

I am a proud owner of 2019 530i. I find the looks frankly boring, too conservative for my liking. I much prefer the styles of Acura TLX / MB E-class / even 3-series. HOWEVER, the driving performance and user experience in 5-series is unmatched in it's class. The cabin feels cozy and iDrive is very simple and intuitive. It's BMW magic: they make engine+suspension+transmission work perfectly together. Could they have made a more interesting design I ask myself? Thinking of it: probably not
