  • Welcome to the Shasta Gravel Hugger 2023. Last year I complained that this event was 100 mile in March. So this year, I prepared and had like, 2 hundred+ mile rides under my belt already. But then it snowed and they shortened it to 80 miles... I AM NOT COMPLAINING!
I rode my Kona Libra with 40C Maxxis Ramblers, maybe could have gone Receptor in the rear but there were a few slick spots where I won't complain about the extra traction.
My fitness is all base right now, so I won't complain about a 3rd place. Gotta put some pep in my step, and hopefully be ready for those big races in April!!

We are one of the only races that guarantees snow and sunshine! Also no one came to me and said they were bummed we only got to ride 80 mils vs 100! Thanks again for sharing!

I may have done better if it was the full 100, actually. I am born to suffer, just not so EARLY. Why can't we go neutral for like.... 30 miles?

Great video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. I always imagine the Shasta Gravel Hugger as a respite from the miserable Oregon weather. I guess not.

Haaaa yea somehow you don't cross the border into CA and get rewarded with sunshine

backwards mounted rear gives you more traction & less break. perfect for a snow ride.

Less brake... It is actually more rolling resistance and less climbing traction... Not a huge deal for these tires actually, just funny.

Not accidental. I was trying, I just didn't know what place I was in. That is the problem with mixed fields!

Jest kidding, looked fun, kinda, 'cept for all the snow... and mud. Ok I think I'll just stick to road riding in sunny South Africa (warmth loving weeny)
