I remember when i was watching this for the first time without knowing it was a Ben 10 crossover, when Humungosaur fell out of the rift in the sky my kid brain just melted, i couldn't comprehend the sheer awesomeness of seeing two of my favorite characters duke it out on my TV screen.
@@brunowillich1837 It was, i was addicted to Ben 10, and i had just started watching Generator Rex, so when Humungosaur fell out of the sky i was whispering to my self "No way" over and over, i did throughout the whole fight up until Ben turned back from Rath, that's what cemented it to me that i wasn't dreaming and this was real.
I love how the crossover wasn't afraid to push Rex's plot further a bit yet still being semi-newcomer friendly. The episode is too good to skip anyway, so it's cool how they pulled out all the stops
I like how Ben and Danny meeting in 5YL is pretty much the same as Rex and Ben meeting in this one: random portal, assumed threat, real threat happens due to Ben (HU Ben brought Alpha with him, 5YL Ben woke up a Way Bad), they call a time-out to their spar to deal with it, and learn to work together. And 5YL Ben accepting Danny a lot more easily makes sense, because he's been on the _receiving_ end of "mistaken for threat" in HU, so of course he'd be like "alright, I'll listen and we'll see how this plays out".
18:28 Small correction. White Knight did have nanites. However WK was accidentally stuck in a machine that would eradicate all nanites in a host, as well as the host. But Rex managed to stop the machine before it could kill him. But WK came out with all his nanites destroyed and body bleached. But alive.
I actually like Ben being a bit bulkier in Gen Rex's art style compared to his UAF look, especially when you consider that every Future Ben we've seen is tall and broad shouldered and fairly bulky. This kind of build feels more like a midpoint between 10 year old Ben and 30+ year old Ben, since otherwise he's gonna grow an extra two feet taller and about a foot wider after the age of 18... though I agree his face is a little bit too mature
How is he bulky anyways? Does the omnitrix help with metabolism? The dude is a chilli fried addict. I always thought that realistically he'd be skinny fat lol.
@@N.I.A23 to be fair, he exercises a lot as well, since he plays soccer and is always running after and fighting a villain tho, sometimes in his human form
One small little detail about the black pawns. Not all providence agents wore black when black knight took over. They still were primarily wearing white armor, the black uniformed ones were just Black Knight's elite commando units.
A concept I like to apply with multiverse stuff is the idea of multiversal echoes - so, two universes might have very little in common but people from one universe might still have analogues/counterparts in the other. I think the concept of Rex being an alternate Ben would fit into that
I always LOVED this type of alt universe counterpart. Where two character can be different characters but still be counterparts on a universal level. Like Sonic and Blaze who is another perfect take on this.
Man as a kid i always thought Rex got injected with the Alpha instead of the Omega, since i never saw the finale of Rex i imagined the finale would be something related to Alpha lol.
Having the characters of the two universe interact would be so much fun like Bobo getting his hands on the wheel of Kevin’s car. Vilgax with Van Kleiss’s nanite manipulation abilities available to him wood be terrifying, or Animo having access to that since he teams up with Argost in the Secret Saturday’s crossover during Omniverse.
Cartoon Network could have EASILY built a Marvel or DC Sized universe. Man of Action were ALREADY setting the foundation. Ben 10(Aliens), Generator Rex(Evos aka Mutants) and Secret Saturdays(Cryptids aka Yokai). Such DEEP LORE already and we only have 3 characters...so much POTENTIAL WASTED
Along with the recent confirmation of a scrapped connection with Sym-Bionic Titan, this has a lot of missed potential. The CN real era had to come, and ruin that for everyone.
@@SecretMagician I'm sorry the connection to WHAT!?😭 I need to read more on this, youtube doesnt allow links so can you explain it or name the article or vid you saw?
I like to think that all of Alpha's Ultimatrix transformations are EVO's of the transformations. I also like to think the reason Shocksquatch one-shot Alpha is because he just fired the full charge of the Ultimatrix into Alpha, temporarily frying him.
that or the fact that Alpha is a mechicial being made of tons of little tiny machines. The electricity must have gotten a critical hit on him. Like imagine every single cell of your being all the same time feeling a massive amount of pain.
Generator Rex is highly underrated. The team for Generator Rex were able to tell a good story and keep the characters mature. Instead of compromising character development or story elements. Plus, the art and fight choreography are solid.
@@leathmccaffrey1532 So do you wonder what will happen if they are going to make a new chapter of their comic series about Danny Phantom and Ben 10 5YL with the Generator Rex’s world for being back on TV again like the crossover special with Ben Tennyson and the Alpha?
Fun fact this episode actually contains most of what we know about the goals of the original nanite project. That the yellow nanites are mindless by design, and rex’s blue and alphas red ones were meant to shepherd them. Only those two cause they use all 3 of the same powers (constructs, nanite communication, technopathy) This adds the nuance that black knights unique nanites, that she bragged about being the finished product of rex’s were actually underpowered compared to his, likely only offering constructs, so the nanite project team mistrusted her long before the betrayal that triggered the nanite event. Theres not a lot of real story telling we get about what happened with the original nanite project so any additional information that can be inferred about the salazars is a win.
right! from what I understand, the Nanite Project's original goal was to augment human biology in order to cure disease and strengthen humanity as a whole; Rex and Black Knight being the only two people who are perfect examples of that dream as they are both enhanced humans, not like Evos with all the nasty side-effects
@@lorekeeper685 I ....... don't think so; the metas are just nanites that specifically target high end stuff like matter, energy, time etc. and then enhance a person around that, so they're like just "super nanites", but even they required Rex's omega nanite in order to be utilised so I don't think they have any control or "will" of their own, they need someone else to tell them what to do
@@mastergreeen1385 ah okay they talked and all so was curious and tech nanite seems to be copy of rec stuff am not fully sure I guess they are just elite nanites whole omega is like monarch?
Honestly the best thing about this crossover was how natural it felt. Most cartoon crossovers feel very forced by their networks. Ben felt like a great temporary addition to Rex’s world cause he didnt feel out of place. Teenage boy who can turn into aliens in a world that had a chance to mutate people into horrible monsters? They even thought Ben was an Evo at first. And Ben is no stranger to dimension hopping adventures so to him thats just another day on the job
As someone who's still never seen Generator Rex, this special is very nostalgic. And surprising how Shocksquach debuted here of all places. Also, Merry Christmas, Kuro and the rest of The Ink Tank team.
I highly recommend Generator Rex. It is like a classic Ben 10 with consistent characters and an overarching story. It also has a phenomenal voice cast. (J. K. Simmons, John Dimaggio, Troy Baker and Grey Delisle are in the main cast.) After seeing that show this episode will became much better.
Honestly I feel like Generator Rex is like Ben 10's less popular but more responsible older brother. It's a slightly more serious, but still fun. It's a lot more consistent. (Ironically Rex the show is younger) Shocksquatch is so funny since he debuts here, never appears in UA and is then redesigned for OV.
What I love about the upgrade suit is that it's probably one of the first things you'd think of watching if you're a ben 10 fan, so it was a treat to see it done. Also have to agree, Rath looks incredible in the rex style.
I adore the fact that Rex is Argentinian!! I will forever be thankful to Man of Action for taking a shot at making a latino hero who's cool yet, his culture lies far away and it's not something he'd be used to. I'm Argentinian myself and I'm pretty sure Rex even Visits Argentina in some episodes to fight some EVOs!! How Rex calls himself "Hombre" and Cesar says "Lo siento, mijo!" before using the escape pot always surprised me.
Yeah, it's funny cause you get two separate parts of his life from the episodes he finds his Parents' home. You find out where he was raised before going to Europe for the nanite program and then one for him with the Evo crew in Hong Kong. Technically, you get a story of 3 totally different people from one Argentinian teen! They really took advantage of that amnesia!
Yeah, I hate characters whose race is a big part of their personality and powers. It's cool that writers pat homage to ancient cultures but they never appealed to me. This why I was never into black panther all that much.
Seeing UA's art style done justice with this animation quality makes the UAF era sting all the more with how it feels like they just give up with the animation periodically.
I never knew about all the detail on Alpha until this breakdown so thanks for that. Fun Fact: Similar to Secret Saturdays in Omniverse, Generator Rex and Ben 10 were meant to share a universe rather than being parallel universes. I forgot the reason for why that couldn't happen, but this idea wasn't realize until the reboot.
Currently showing my friend who missed out on a childhood all the cartoons I watched growing up, and we’re about halfway through Ultimate Alien right now. I’m planning on starting Generator Rex immediately after finishing OV, saying it was made by the same people who made the original series, and _never_ mentioning the fact that a crossover is coming. I can’t wait to hear the excitement in his voice when he realizes what’s going on in this episode.
Ben and Rex are an incredibly good fit. They both mutate and transform their bodies because of scifi tech, they are both teen kids with too much power so they're a bit full of themselves, but that never stops them from being heroes, because in the end they want to protect people. They both always choose to punch first even when there's better choices (Rex always prefers the firsts and Ben always prefers Fourarms or Humungousaur) They're both seen as slackers when it comes to school but both have a talent for it. Ben has his photographic memory and Rex aced a difficult trigonometry test because he already has to do calculations while using his weapons. It's similar to how Spiderman has to make hundreds of angle calculations while webswinging, it's a lot of math.
I’m ngl I’ve always found the idea of heroes like Rex and Spiderman doing calculations to use their powers kinda silly. Football players, baseball players, volleyball players all actively use those same principles but they don’t do active calculations, it’s just their body becoming naturally in-tuned to the thing they’re doing on a daily basis to the point that they’re intuitively accurate There’s no way or reason for people like Spidey and Rex to actively being doing trig for every movement they do. Them just being inherently smart should be reason enough for them being good at stuff like math without writers trying to justify it
I kind of like that Ben doesn't say his aliens' names when he transforms. It feels like something that a 10-year-old is more prone to do, yet 10-year-old Ben doesn't really do that while 15/16-year old Ben does, which I personally always find to be silly.
Rex being a semi alternate Ben is a theory I had too and it made me wish that Zak Saturday was also from an alternate dimension to push the theory even further. All teen superheroes drastically removed from each other but kinda serving the same purpose
Honestly they should retroactively change the fact that Zack is from the same world because it makes more sense why Ben wasn’t around to even slightly participate in the Cryptid war that was spanning globally thanks to the Kurs
Fun Fact, all of Rex's Ben Boosted Builds also have names, and I will list them here: The Smack Hands upgrade into The Power Fists The Boogie Pack upgrades to The Hyper Jet The Slam Cannon upgrades to The Blast Launcher The Big Fat Sword upgrades to The Alien Excalibur (my favorite name thus far) And finally, The Rex Ride upgrades into The Swift Rocket
I kinda like how the names upgrade to be much more fitting and streamlined as the show goes on, really adds a perspective on Rex's growth as a character which I really love
Rex is like the better Ben in my opinion. His ego never feels forced, it feels natural cause he's actually really good and it's more of a healthy ego then Ben's from season 3 of alien force and the randomly returning ego he has for the rest of the series. It helps that Rex's cast felt more consistent and not forced a way for the episode's plot. Need to rewatch Rex cause I never finished it.
Well in Ben's defense he was around a lot longer 9 seasons at this point whereas Rex had 3 plus there was plenty of studio meddling from cartoon network.
Honestly I feel like Generator Rex in general is like Ben 10's less popular but more responsible older brother. It's a slightly more serious, but still fun. It's a lot more consistent in tone, characterization and plot.
Rex being less serious and somewhat childish at times also makes sense because he's had amnesia and only a few years of experience. It also contrasts with how most people he regularly interacts with are adults with responsibilities, other teenagers that don't have amnesia, or Bobo Haha.
I always thought that a reunion could have taken place in Omniverse. I know technically Gen Rex had more serious plot and arcs, but sometimes had this Goofy cartoon humor like Omniverse.
Honestly, if the prime continuity versions of these two ever reunite then I would pay to see Rex and Ben using their giant forms ( Rex’s giant robot form and Way Big ) to take down the Villain
@@aragaminightmare9527 Full E.V.O. Form w/ Upgrade would be amazing (whichever form or a combination of Rex's Original and Omega E.V.O. Forms would be sick).

11:10, I think about the "gen rex" part is something he is coming up in the spot, like "I need a superhero name, I create machine from nothing, so ..... gen rex", for how he talks he wouldn't use the complete "generator"
The year 2011 was peak Cartoon Network. It had Ninjago, Batman, Gumball, Star Wars, Ben 10, generator Rex, Symbiotic titan and adventure time Also the theory regarding Rex being an alternate Ben is basically the idea of there’s always a man, there’s always a lighthouse, there’s always a city
51:37 I remember when I first saw this crossover I theorized Shocksquatch wasn’t a regular alien, but a creation of the Ultimatrix (akin to Nanomech) to contain Ben’s supposed E.V.O form and give him control over it like a regular alien. And then Omniverse came in and busted it up. Thanks, Omniverse!
This will forever remain one of my favorite crossovers ever. Much love and thanks to the ink tank for the wonderful stuff you've brought us this year. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all
This crossover was amazing! I grew up watching both so seeing this for the first time blew me away lmao🤣 Rex and Ben was a duo I didn’t know I needed to see.🤝🏾
You could probably say that Upchucks stomach acids weakened the nanite ball enough for Alpha to break out. It doesn’t really matter but it’s nice to think about why Cesar is wrong by saying it should be difficult for Alpha to escape, especially when his intelligence is shown off a lot in this episode (maybe it is in every episode of Generator Rex but I haven’t seen it so yk)
I mean he initially trapped Alpha in what he thought was an empty void and not.. a populated alien prison dimension.. so it would be fine for him to be wrong.. but it would be kinda funny for him to be wrong twice in big ways in a crossover when he is meant to be very smart
When I was really into Ben 10 I remember watching this crossover and then years later I came across it again and decided to give Generator Rex a try and still glad I did. A great show that I will always love.
3 things I wish to say: 1. I thought this was gonna come after the episode with Ma Vreedle, since that is when it aired and where I personally place it in the Ben 10 timeline since IDK how you'd do it in production order. Glad we got it sooner though. 2. Apparently all of the Upgraded Rex Builds have their own names: Smack Hands are the Power Fists, Boogie Pack becomes the Hyper Jet, Slam Cannon becomes Blast Launcher, BFS becomes Alien Excalibur, and Rex Ride becomes Swift Rocket. IDK f these are official or if the guys who edit the Gen Rex wiki were just having fun and no one has bothered to correct them, but I like the think of them as official. 3. I got into this massive argument on Reddit with a guy who says that Rex could already do everything Upgrade could do, and while it was annoying he did give me a new perspective on Rex's powers and their potential and EVEN linked me to an image of a Twitter conversation with Duncan Rouleau where a fan asked him if Rex could make an Omnitrix with his nanites. He said if the Nanites had the schematics and necessary material like Alien DNA it's conceivable, but he does say that Rex doesn't have nearly enough mastery over his nanites to concentrate long enough to build one. Which makes sense as the Omnitrix is WAY more complex than his usual builds. Just google search Generator rex Omnitrix Twitter on Google images and you'll find it.
I mean, Alpha was able to copy the Ultimatrix so it wouldn't be too out their to say Rex could make his own Omnitrix (I know that technically, both the Prototype and the Completed Omntrix are more complex compared to the Ultimatrix but still).
People still use that tweet? I asked him because I also had a debate about that with a friend. I didn't think he possibly could, and that Ultimatrix was weaker defense wise compared to the Omniverse Omnitrix, which is why Alpha could duplicate it.
For Alpha's Omnitrix transformations my guess is that they are all partly ultimate forms because unless I am mistaken, we never get an ultimate Four-Arms or ultimate Heat-Blast. It would be neat to find out that those differences are ultimate form differences.
Yeah I remember that I had same thought when I first watched that. Alpha's transformation were huge , powerful and also had unique appearance. They weren't in UA art style but worthy enough to consider them as ultimate forms 👌
The whole dissection of this crossover, especially art wise, reminds me of why teenage me got back into drawing, hoping to someday create something like that.
YO LEGIT?! I was not expecting for us to get a breakdown for this but I’m SO happy because of this This is legit one of my all time favourite crossovers between some of my all time favourite characters, especially now that I’ve watched Rex last year Definitely a great way to end the year
I remember Cartoon Network hyping the heck out of this special. I've never seen Generator Rex and I dropped out of Ben 10 by then, but I knew I had to watch this, and I remember really liking it. This just felt super nostalgic for me even though I've seen it one time. This is was very well done crossover that was written to not be just a crossover, but to have a real plot that at least had lasting impact of one show.
The thing pisses me off is that even though Ben have the ultimatrix he never went ultimate in this cross over but the thing suprises me is that shocksqatch was voiced by David Kaye in 2011 before the release of Omniverse where he voiced a plenty of characters along with shocksqatch.
There is something that I have been thinking the Upgrade Suit could've helped end the fight. Rex is technopathic due to his Nanites, and if they are upgraded, then that ability should be, too. His technopathy could've been used to manipulate Alpha and regain the Omega Nanite.
At some point i decided i should watch Generator Rex and this show is really great on itself (i need more Van Kleiss in my life, such a great villain, but what you would expect from the mix of Doctor Doom and Magneto) but finally seeing this crossover after knowing about it only from promotional materials was a real treat. Upgrade suit was one of the hypest superhero team-up moments ever honestly
I'd very much recommend Generator Rex to anyone. It's a great action cartoon. Honestly I feel like Generator Rex is like Ben 10's less popular but more responsible older brother. (Ironically Rex the show is younger) It's a slightly more serious, but still fun. It's a lot more consistent in tone, characterization and plot. Also merry Christmas everyone to the Ink Tank
This crossover kinda gives me Flash Of Two Worlds vibes. Even down to how the Bellwood/Manhattan parallel is reminiscent of the Central City/Keystone City parallel, not to mention the obvious parallel between Rex/Ben and Barry/Jay.
I remember I was a fan of both series before the crossover was even announced and I was on the cartoon network threads requesting that this specific crossover should happen. I think it was weeks or months later that they started advertising it on TV and I think thats one of the most exciting moments I had in my life. (Me being young at the time, I thought they made it directly because they were listening to the fans on those forums) but I'm still really happy they made it.
Small detail, but I love that the slight exhale XLR8 makes when he catches Holiday uses the exact same raspy? vocal effect that was used on his voice during the classic series.
30:07 - 30:50 Basically like Bioshock did their multiverse, with their "there's always a man, there's always a lighthouse" thing, Jack Ryan went into the lighthouse and down the stairs there was a submarine to take him down to rapture, Booker Dewitt went into the lighthouse and up the stairs was a pod/rocket to take him up to columbia.
Tbh I think Ben's design in gen rex art style looks sick. He does look a bit matured with his long head, but that's what I like. The aliens also looks cooler than they do in ben 10 art style except big chill and cannonbolt
I still remember the year that this episode premiered. For weeks there have been constant teasers and commercials for this crossover and I remember just constantly waiting for this to drop. When it did drop, it was all I watched On-Demand nonstop. It is also kinda sad that other than Crossover Nexus, this is the last major crossover CN has done in years
Merry Christmas, Ink Tank! Generator Rex is something I've been there for since it first came out and was the biggest thing on my channel before I went to college and did my own animated shorts. To wake up to this was a Christmas miracle!
One detail. Six lost his like for his green suit because of an accident that made him forget six years of his life, he tried the suit again, but ditched it when he left Providence.
I know this is pretty late, but I like to think that Alpha becoming mute in his "completed" form is abit like how kids go from bright and curious to more somber and weighed by the world as they grow older. You're description is pretty apt - he goes from a character to what is basically a living natural disaster, and while natural disasters tend to be characterized (like alot of things humans interact with), they ultimately tend to lack a voice, face, or something you can reason with - you can scream all you want and that tornado will just walk over you
Crossover Shocksquatch is the best design for him simply because it's very yeti-like, looks like an alien that could be inter-tangled with real-world folklore and he's got a Canadian accent. 10/10 alien.
The whole thing with Alpha's nanites flying away at 55:28 really reminded me of Uzumaki by Junji Ito. A horror manga about spirals. Really reminiscent of a scene in the early chapters of the manga having to do with the smoke of a pottery store.
I know it’s a long shot, but I REALLY hope that, if Kuro wants to continue doing breakdowns, he does a generator Rex breakdown series. I would seriously LOVE watching that
I feel like the biggest missed oppertunity is they didn't do Ultimate Upgrade. I feel like it would have been a cool idea to have it only be here since it's so situational, having it only show up here would give make it so iconic.
Fitting that this crossover breakdown takes place after Ben 10000 returns as that was the point where Ben gets back access to all of his older alens(except feedback). Since Ben didn't even use some of those unlocked old aliens until omniverse so this was nice to see at least two of them again.
I might be trippin, but wasn't feedback straight up erased before his return? like not even locked like the older aliens, like malware straight up deleted him like he almost did Way Big.
I swear I remember shocksquatch being in this longer. It's so weird to go out of the way to introduce a brand new alien, only for it to do nothing. Definitely do prefer this design tho, the omniverse version never really felt like a "sasquatch" to me, this one captured it a lot better
Also I’ve never seen someone mention this but the way you only see Ben in alien form for the first few minutes of his appearance in the special parallels the first Ben 10,000 episode, in a way of showing how far we’ve come
Merry Christmas to Kuro and the rest of the ink tank! Thank you for the year of breakdowns, 5YL and everything in between! The fandom doesn’t deserved you guys but by golly we appreciate you all very much. 🥂
I do agree with you that this was absolutely the best crossover I've ever scene like ever. Only complaints I've ever had was that he didn't get more aliens and didn't shout out his alien names. This was also my absolute favorite forms of Upgrade and Rath. Absolutely great video and great episode.
I love the humanoid red-energy look of Alpha, and wished NRG looked more like him while I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but having the 5YL version look similar is pretty cool for them both being energy absorbing beings.
When you started talking about Rex being a paralel Ben, I instead thought it as Ben most likely going EVO when he was 10, and the omntitrix most likely got blasted back off into space
So a bit of clarification about Shocksquatch: he wasn’t included in this special for any reasons related to Omniverse’s production to my knowledge, I believe Man Of Action/Gen Rex’s crew made him for the special. The UA crew had NO IDEA about this crossover’s production and we’re just as surprised as fans when it was announced publicly. That’s why UA, having been produced simultaneously, didn’t include/mention Shocksquatch, or even reference this adventure happening. Shocksquatch was only put in the running for OV after the special, meaning it was veeeeery late in the game. His inclusion in OV (and the semi canon design Derrick made with Karin) is kinda the only thing confirming these events were canon.
This is honestly the best crossover I can think of. First it's well done, which can be hard when connecting two different shows but more importantly it's canon, and at least for one show it reveals some important stuff about the in universe history. Another thing is that Ben and Rex both acknowledge each other's strangeness. My favorite part though is that Ben despite being the more powerful character doesn't overshadow Rex at all.
You know what would've been awesome? If Rex ended turning into his Full E.V.O. form out of desperation (or more specifically, his Nanites transform him out of self defense, similar to what was going to happen in the flashback episode where he was about to be dissected) and Ben turns into Upgrade and merges with him, not only making the E.V.O. form stronger but also keeping Rex stable and not at risk of going on a rampage or losing his memory again.
Rex could easily be in a universe where he takes the role of Ben rather than the direct identity. I remember something where a developer of something Sonic related saying that Blaze’s dimension is loosely based on Sonic’s, less so in characters being exact replicas of existing characters but with minor differences, but instead more so one or more characters can take up the role of one or more characters from Sonic’s universe, so Blaze takes the role of both Sonic and Knuckles as the roles of both the Hero of the world and the Protector of some far d ancient location, and Marine taking the role of Tails in being the young versatile character who tags along with the Hero, the Sidekick I see Rex as similar to that, he’s loosely paralleled, he’s a different character with a different past and in a universe with different rules, but he still takes up the same time Ben does, a young arrogant and cocky hero with powers nobody else possesses who tags alongside incredibly smart yet dangerous people (Six and Gwen, perhaps Grandpa Ma as well), and a bratty jerk who people tolerate a lot of the time but sometimes genuinely do care for (Bobo and Kevin)
And another thing, it's really cool how almost ALWAYS the new aliens Ben gets had to do with the episode. In this episode, to fight the machines, BEN GETS AN ELECTRIC ALIEN!
When I first saw Malware, I though of a fanfic idea where Malware and Alpha came together in perfect symbiosis, prompting Ben and Rex to team up yet again. I just never got around to writing it.
This crossover helped me go through a tough time in middle school when it originally aired. Watching this crossover is my Thanksgiving tradition now. I love both shows and only got the last few episodes of Gen Rex to finish. I love these bois; so badass and hot~! God, this crossover is perfect! 💚🧡
I remember this crossover. I was so excited because Ben and Rex were going to team up. I loved Generator Rex at the time and Ultimate Alien so I couldn't wait to see how they'd react to each other. If they ever bring back Generator Rex and the Secret Saturdays I'd like a three way crossover.
The funny thing about this crossover is, as you watch Generator Rex, sometimes it can annoy you how immature and hot-headed Rex can be, but after teaming up with Ben, you realize how mature he is compared to Ben!
Both have their good days and bad days.... though I do think Rex may have more of a consistent temper, even if he doesn't act on it.

Nice Jin-Woo pfp

Can we all agree that this was the greatest super hero cross-over of all time?

There is a comic sequel called hero times two
Man as a kid i always thought Rex got injected with the Alpha instead of the Omega, since i never saw the finale of Rex i imagined the finale would be something related to Alpha lol.
Having the characters of the two universe interact would be so much fun like Bobo getting his hands on the wheel of Kevin’s car.

Fun fact this episode actually contains most of what we know about the goals of the original nanite project. That the yellow nanites are mindless by design, and rex’s blue and alphas red ones were meant to shepherd them. Only those two cause they use all 3 of the same powers (constructs, nanite communication, technopathy)
This adds the nuance that black knights unique nanites, that she bragged about being the finished product of rex’s were actually underpowered compared to his, likely only offering constructs, so the nanite project team mistrusted her long before the betrayal that triggered the nanite event.
Theres not a lot of real story telling we get about what happened with the original nanite project so any additional information that can be inferred about the salazars is a win.
huh ı though all were supoosed to be blue neat
right! from what I understand, the Nanite Project's original goal was to augment human biology in order to cure disease and strengthen humanity as a whole; Rex and Black Knight being the only two people who are perfect examples of that dream as they are both enhanced humans, not like Evos with all the nasty side-effects
@@mastergreeen1385 end hunger and all
But I wonder do meta nanites "shepherd" or something else?
@@lorekeeper685 I ....... don't think so; the metas are just nanites that specifically target high end stuff like matter, energy, time etc. and then enhance a person around that, so they're like just "super nanites", but even they required Rex's omega nanite in order to be utilised so I don't think they have any control or "will" of their own, they need someone else to tell them what to do
@@mastergreeen1385 ah okay they talked and all so was curious and tech nanite seems to be copy of rec stuff am not fully sure

As someone that watched both shows as they were airing, I can confirm this was amazing when it came out
Honestly the best thing about this crossover was how natural it felt.
You need to give Generator Rex a watch it's fantastic.
Honestly I feel like Generator Rex is like Ben 10's less popular but more responsible older brother. It's a slightly more serious, but still fun. It's a lot more consistent. (Ironically Rex the show is younger)
Shocksquatch is so funny since he debuts here, never appears in UA and is then redesigned for OV.
While i think ben 10 had higher peaks in its runtime, I strongly believe that Generator Rex as a whole is a much better show
@@HotDogTimeMachine385 *younger. Not tryna disagree or anyrhing, I was just sayin-
What I love about the upgrade suit is that it's probably one of the first things you'd think of watching if you're a ben 10 fan, so it was a treat to see it done.
Aparentemente, Rex tambien es mitad mexicano
Yeah, it's funny cause you get two separate parts of his life from the episodes he finds his Parents' home. You find out where he was raised before going to Europe for the nanite program and then one for him with the Evo crew in Hong Kong. Technically, you get a story of 3 totally different people from one Argentinian teen! They really took advantage of that amnesia!
Yeah, I hate characters whose race is a big part of their personality and powers. It's cool that writers pat homage to ancient cultures but they never appealed to me.
This why I was never into black panther all that much.
Yes he does.
Finds some childhood friend there who is an evo werewolf.
Mitad argentino, mitad mexicano, nacido en Suiza
Seeing UA's art style done justice with this animation quality makes the UAF era sting all the more with how it feels like they just give up with the animation periodically.
I never knew about all the detail on Alpha until this breakdown so thanks for that. Fun Fact: Similar to Secret Saturdays in Omniverse, Generator Rex and Ben 10 were meant to share a universe rather than being parallel universes. I forgot the reason for why that couldn't happen, but this idea wasn't realize until the reboot.
If generator rex happend in bed 10 Ben and the plumbers would easily solve every problem.
The nanite event is not something they could just write to happen into the Ben 10 world, so i think its best theyre separate worlds

Yo that sounds amazing.
that sounds fire 🔥
Based!
How'd it go
The thing that makes this crossover work is how natural it feels compared to other cartoon crossovers..... *cough* Simpsons and Family Guy *cough*
Ben and Rex are an incredibly good fit. They both mutate and transform their bodies because of scifi tech, they are both teen kids with too much power so they're a bit full of themselves, but that never stops them from being heroes, because in the end they want to protect people. They both always choose to punch first even when there's better choices (Rex always prefers the firsts and Ben always prefers Fourarms or Humungousaur)
They're both seen as slackers when it comes to school but both have a talent for it.
Football players, baseball players, volleyball players all actively use those same principles but they don’t do active calculations, it’s just their body becoming naturally in-tuned to the thing they’re doing on a daily basis to the point that they’re intuitively accurate
There’s no way or reason for people like Spidey and Rex to actively being doing trig for every movement they do. Them just being inherently smart should be reason enough for them being good at stuff like math without writers trying to justify it
I love the fact that they used aliens like Lodestar, Upgrade which would interact with Rex in an interesting way.
If only he had Juryrigg at the time
@@axelnilsson5124 i'm almost sure jury hadn't debuted yet at that point, so maybe a bit hard

I kind of like that Ben doesn't say his aliens' names when he transforms. It feels like something that a 10-year-old is more prone to do, yet 10-year-old Ben doesn't really do that while 15/16-year old Ben does, which I personally always find to be silly.
same tbh.
One of my favorite crossovers EVER, so glad you finally got to talk about it!
Fun Fact, all of Rex's Ben Boosted Builds also have names, and I will list them here:
The Smack Hands upgrade into The Power Fists
The Boogie Pack upgrades to The Hyper Jet
The Slam Cannon upgrades to The Blast Launcher
The Big Fat Sword upgrades to The Alien Excalibur (my favorite name thus far)
And finally, The Rex Ride upgrades into The Swift Rocket
I kinda like how the names upgrade to be much more fitting and streamlined as the show goes on, really adds a perspective on Rex's growth as a character which I really love
I like how the first alien that the Omnitrix/ultimatrix turns the wielder into is always heatblast
Having watched them both as a kid, this truly one of the best crossovers if not the best I can ever think of
Rex is like the better Ben in my opinion.
True. I had a similar thought. His character definitely felt more consistent compared to Ben.
agreed
Would make sense considering we got a Zac Saturday episode.
Honestly, if the prime continuity versions of these two ever reunite then I would pay to see Rex and Ben using their giant forms ( Rex’s giant robot form and Way Big ) to take down the Villain
@@zyro7756 Imagine Ben upgrading Rex's robot form, that would be something to behold.

11:10, I think about the "gen rex" part is something he is coming up in the spot, like "I need a superhero name, I create machine from nothing, so ..... gen rex", for how he talks he wouldn't use the complete "generator"
Sounds better than “builder Rex”
This special reminds me of the golden age for Ben 10. Takes me back to my teen years, when everything felt more simple.
The year 2011 was peak Cartoon Network. It had Ninjago, Batman, Gumball, Star Wars, Ben 10, generator Rex, Symbiotic titan and adventure time
Also the theory regarding Rex being an alternate Ben is basically the idea of there’s always a man, there’s always a lighthouse, there’s always a city
This is literally one of my favorite cartoon crossovers and I'm so glad we finally got its breakdown
I think "Benerator Rex" would have been a pretty funny title
51:37 I remember when I first saw this crossover I theorized Shocksquatch wasn’t a regular alien, but a creation of the Ultimatrix (akin to Nanomech) to contain Ben’s supposed E.V.O form and give him control over it like a regular alien.
And then Omniverse came in and busted it up. Thanks, Omniverse!
Kuro initially called it the Omnitrix, but from Lodestar's appearance, he started calling it the Ultimatrix

FACTS
Yeah, that crossover was some of the most 🔥 CN had ever put out
In my mind Alpha being able to hack the Ultimatrix so easily just shows how poor Albedo’s design was…
Albedo you say you’re smarter than asmuth then how come your device has such weak defense walls
@AhsanAnimatez3D weak we say
Or it's due to the Ultimatrix Ben has is built from both the regular Omnitrix and the Ultimatrix core making it finicky.
3 things I wish to say:
Just google search Generator rex Omnitrix Twitter on Google images and you'll find it.
that's a pretty cool fact on number 3 and 2. I also didn't even know rex's builds had names.
@@gripetype4771 He ain't wrong about the ultrmatrix having bad the defense that thing get's hacked 24/7 and easily taken off.
@@kermitgotthesickkicks4265 Yeah no that's what I said. I got fed up with this so I just asked Duncan himself
For Alpha's Omnitrix transformations my guess is that they are all partly ultimate forms because unless I am mistaken, we never get an ultimate Four-Arms or ultimate Heat-Blast. It would be neat to find out that those differences are ultimate form differences.
One of ORash’s ideas for a ultimate Heat-Blast does have 3 tentacles, so coincidence?
ooh nice
Yeah I remember that I had same thought when I first watched that. Alpha's transformation were huge , powerful and also had unique appearance. They weren't in UA art style but worthy enough to consider them as ultimate forms 👌
The whole dissection of this crossover, especially art wise, reminds me of why teenage me got back into drawing, hoping to someday create something like that.
YO LEGIT?! I was not expecting for us to get a breakdown for this but I’m SO happy because of this
This is legit one of my all time favourite crossovers between some of my all time favourite characters, especially now that I’ve watched Rex last year
Definitely a great way to end the year
I remember Cartoon Network hyping the heck out of this special.
Can we just appreciate this Underrated masterpiece called Generator Rex
Of course ☺️.
This crossover kinda gives me Flash Of Two Worlds vibes. Even down to how the Bellwood/Manhattan parallel is reminiscent of the Central City/Keystone City parallel, not to mention the obvious parallel between Rex/Ben and Barry/Jay.
I like how Heroes United shocksquach is more of a yeti while Omniverse's design is inspired by bigfoot.

18:51 “he just attacked him with that johnny test combo” my favourite part of the video so far! 😂😂
Nah. Still think Omniverse's Shocksquatch is the best among all
The crossover was definitely awesome, wish Rex would've at least been mentioned in Omniverse.Or even shown up.
They didn't mention his name though but providence was mentioned by Charmcaster and an imprisoned addwaitya in omniverse
Would have been awesome if he showed up in the 200th episode to fight the evil Bens
The whole thing with Alpha's nanites flying away at 55:28 really reminded me of Uzumaki by Junji Ito. A horror manga about spirals. Really reminiscent of a scene in the early chapters of the manga having to do with the smoke of a pottery store.
The crossover was released at a comic-con prior to its debut on TV, that might be how it was spoiled. This is a response to your comment at 40:20.
58:20 Upgrade gave Rex the most powerful attack known to man. The Rocket Powered Fist!
I know it’s a long shot, but I REALLY hope that, if Kuro wants to continue doing breakdowns, he does a generator Rex breakdown series. I would seriously LOVE watching that
same bro
Danny phantom too
yep
I feel like the biggest missed oppertunity is they didn't do Ultimate Upgrade. I feel like it would have been a cool idea to have it only be here since it's so situational, having it only show up here would give make it so iconic.
Fitting that this crossover breakdown takes place after Ben 10000 returns as that was the point where Ben gets back access to all of his older alens(except feedback). Since Ben didn't even use some of those unlocked old aliens until omniverse so this was nice to see at least two of them again.
Not just some of them most of them
I might be trippin, but wasn't feedback straight up erased before his return? like not even locked like the older aliens, like malware straight up deleted him like he almost did Way Big.
I swear I remember shocksquatch being in this longer. It's so weird to go out of the way to introduce a brand new alien, only for it to do nothing.
Definitely do prefer this design tho, the omniverse version never really felt like a "sasquatch" to me, this one captured it a lot better
The omniverse one kinda look more like a gorilla mixed with a sasquatch.
I love the humanoid red-energy look of Alpha, and wished NRG looked more like him
while I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but having the 5YL version look similar is pretty cool for them both being energy absorbing beings.
Missed opportunity.
Shoot could have even started with Ben going Waybig to then clash toe to toe with him for a bit before changing to Upgrade.
@@njrk97 maybe if the budget was bigger and they were allowed to make a FULL MOVIE instead of just a crossover ep that was at least an 1hr long😂
@@no.1spidey-fan182 Yeah, I think it would've been awesome if it was a full movie and it got to flesh out things more.
With Ben upgrading Rex, I feel like an artificial Omega should of been made, something that mimics an omega build without being classified as one.
I love how Ben just sounds insane to everyone else when talking about his dimension.
Rex could easily be in a universe where he takes the role of Ben rather than the direct identity. I remember something where a developer of something Sonic related saying that Blaze’s dimension is loosely based on Sonic’s, less so in characters being exact replicas of existing characters but with minor differences, but instead more so one or more characters can take up the role of one or more characters from Sonic’s universe, so Blaze takes the role of both Sonic and Knuckles as the roles of both the Hero of the world and the Protector of some far d ancient location, and Marine taking the role of Tails in being the young versatile character who tags along with the Hero, the Sidekick
I see Rex as similar to that, he’s loosely paralleled, he’s a different character with a different past and in a universe with different rules, but he still takes up the same time Ben does, a young arrogant and cocky hero with powers nobody else possesses who tags alongside incredibly smart yet dangerous people (Six and Gwen, perhaps Grandpa Ma as well), and a bratty jerk who people tolerate a lot of the time but sometimes genuinely do care for (Bobo and Kevin)
How come gwen Tennyson is dangerous person
And another thing, it's really cool how almost ALWAYS the new aliens Ben gets had to do with the episode. In this episode, to fight the machines, BEN GETS AN ELECTRIC ALIEN!
When I first saw Malware, I though of a fanfic idea where Malware and Alpha came together in perfect symbiosis, prompting Ben and Rex to team up yet again. I just never got around to writing it.
Seeing Rex done in the Omniverse art style could be cool.
This crossover helped me go through a tough time in middle school when it originally aired. Watching this crossover is my Thanksgiving tradition now. I love both shows and only got the last few episodes of Gen Rex to finish. I love these bois; so badass and hot~! God, this crossover is perfect! 💚🧡
... i had no ideea Juni Cortez was Rex.
This is mind blowing.
