Micah, with all the bad to see in the world its refreshing to see a nice young man, his adorable wife and daughter being so happy. God bless your family.
2 things...this is in all practicality the true Ranger that everyone wanted back both in size and capability. Also, I think Ford got it right by not adding a ridiculously large info screen like so many cars makers are doing, this is both a safety hazard and provides less tactile drive experience which allows for button/knob systems to still be used while driving. So with the Maverick having a smaller screen that gets the job done is a plus, while maintaining the safer and more desirable tactile control experience.
No, it wasn't, this bed is far too small for it to be the Ranger "Everyone" wanted. That said, the Maverick does have its place, but it's not a Ranger. This really is what it is, a crossover with the small utility bed. For the price and mileage, I can see many people taking interesting in it. It's just not a pickup in the way the new or the old Ranger was.
Another great review. "If you can't be expensive, at least be interesting." I think for the crowd that doesn't really want a truck, they'll snap these up quick.
They did. Nearly ALL of the Mavericks being built in 2022 are currently called for. You can't even order a 2022 hybrid, anymore. 2023 ordering will likely start next summer
Great Review. I was in wait and see mode, but now I’m leaning toward a Maverick again. (Probably wait until 2023 year models. Every review feels like I’m hanging with friends trying to give me information on my car decision. Thank you Muzio Family.
I would get the eco you can still order it. With the supply chain issues, tthe magnesium shortage and inflation, 2023 price likely to go up a lot more.
I think “cheap plastic” is a great material for a car. Cheaper, durable, easy to clean, rugged. What do you want - mahogany or marble? Cheap hard scratchy plastic is the way to go. I love it.
I’m a dignified gentleman of refined tastes. I demand nothing but the finest quality, such as ivory and rarest of woods…perhaps a rhinoceros horn for a shifter and interior must be replete with a fireplace activated upon clapping
2 things: I always enjoyed Micah's reviews for BOB. Thank you for FINALLY testing the hybrid powered model. It seems like 99.9% of the reviews that I have found are for the Eco-Boost equipped model. I currently have a NON Eco-Boost Fusion (I purposely did not want a turbo engine) and the hybrid Maverick may be my next vehicle purchase.
The jolt of energy this video just gave me, and it reassured my interest in this truck. Not looking for a beefy powerplant or insane offroad truck. Just something I can toss my gear in whenever I get orders, drive long distances in, and not empty my wallet refueling.
Answering the Muzio Maverick questions: 1. What would I power in the back of my Maverick? A reciprocating saw to turn the back seat into a 60/40 split 2. What should Evie put in screen cubby? A small bag of treats for the cutie in the back 3. Do I like the look of the Maverick? Yes. Clean, simple, understated 4. What sound do I make when I brake too hard? “Psshhffssst” 5. How stupid is it leaving last gen infotainment to hit price point? It is what it is but sync 4 would have been nice option with the “luxury” package at least 6. Any remarks you missed? Not much-great impressions. Maybe audio sound quality (though not expecting much) 7. Do I have a better synopsis? Not really but my grandfather was extremely practical, frugal and a DIYer so guess I would call it the John Smith pickup
Amazing video, one note the 1500 pounds is the payload not tow so you can load 1500lbs into the vehicle. 2000lns towing with the 4 pin and the grest job pointing out the 4k towing option requirement for 4000lbs towing. It adds 7 pin connector for brakes on the trailer as well as heavy duty radiator, larger engine cooling fan and the all important oil cooler for the transmission thst the FX4 package does not have
Also if you put 1500lbs in the bed you would be over payload if you put any passengers in the truck. Regardless, 1500 lbs total truck payload is impressive for this size. That's more payload than a lot of half ton trucks have in top trims.
For comparison, my 3.5L V6 minivan has a payload of 1157 lbs. The typical Maverick payload will be about 1430 lbs. I ordered a Maverick before checking those numbers and was surprised the Maverick was that much higher.
Ordered a Maverick XLT on October 15th. Still waiting because of various supply problems. Re-watching this video is the only way I can enjoy a Maverick at this point. My wife is concerned that frequent review of this video is creating unrealistic expectations and that I will be disappointed when our Maverick arrives without cute family inside.
Love the review. I will say, as someone who has a Hybrid Lariat Maverick on order, Ford has really shafted orderers with not producing Hybrid orders until the Spring of 2022. The hybrid is their most marketed Maverick and I think it's crazy we won't get it until Spring.
Don't know where you're getting your info, hybrid production starts in Dec, with the first hybrids being delivered in Jan. That's not exactly spring lol, think you're off by a few months.
Wasn’t Ford’s choice to wait on the hybrid. Didn’t receive the ok to buy from the EPA until just recently and it goes into affect December. I’m sure if they it had their way they would have had the EPA approve it way back in August.
Or maybe just the opposite. New product, produce a few and test them first before mass production. I'd rather wait longer for the Hybrid than have recalls and issues. Sounds like Ford may have learned thier lesson from the Bronco hard top fiasco. I've got a Hybrid order myself (Nov) was thinking May at the earliest and I'm totally fine with it.
The Maverick in this review is nearly identical to the one I have ordered. I just don't have the 360 pkg and I am getting cactus gray instead of area 51. I was fortunately able to test drive one just like this, but with the Ecoboost. Most of the review was really well done and I can't wait to get mine early next year.
One suggestion for people who rarely have back seat passengers - I realized with my Santa Fe that I could greatly increase my rear visibility by removing and storing the back seat headrests. A few of my friends have done that with their cars too after seeing mine. Perhaps there's enough space under the seat to store them there. You asking Evie about visibility made me notice how much the backseat headrests obscure the rear window.
Did the same in my Jeep Gladiator, but the rear headrests fold down vs. being removable. Still, makes a big difference seeing out the rear window. -- BR
Nice content…very informative about the difference between the different model levels & packages. Love the sincere family friendly content also…much appreciated.
Thanks for pointing out the rear windows go all the way down!! Also that the Luxury package includes heated seats and heated steering wheel! That’s very cool - I’m close to getting an XLT Hybrid Lux 360 and Blackout package in Cactus Gray! My 9yo son is stoked ha.
Love the video! I actually ordered my XLT Hybrid mid August in Velocity Blue.. It fits all my needs with adding a sunroof and tri-fold tonneau cover Co pilot 360 and luxury package it only came to $28,750... I plan on doing my own upgrade , like blue lights underneath ,it will be awesome at night!.. I like your channel.. nice family with a little cutie pie sitting in the back..
I have an '09 Escape with the same power train. First year for the 2.5, and when it switches hybrid modes it feels like a really smooth multi ratio automatic. 15 to 20 mph usually, so it's a cvt that has a virtual 1-2 shift that's as smooth as my mom's '18 escape turbo automatic. It's a good trade off for my 36mpg. During the 08-12 generation, the hybrid had optional awd. Thankfully mine doesn't have awd because the added drive train load made the hybrid awd slower than the gas 4 cylinder but only like 2 more mpg with the awd, not to mention premium engine pricing, so it didn't sell well. I tell people that my car doesn't feel like a fast car, but it ain't no slouch. I reckon the 2.5 Atkinson cycle hybrid has improved some in 13 years. The market is going to be flooded with these in 5 years and that's when I'll be shopping for one.
Great review and family. I thought I read somewhere that the sync 4 infotainment was originally supposed to fit in the space allotted in the dash. Because of the chip shortage Ford had to go with the smaller sync3 system, thus the small cubby exists.
Ordered a fully loaded maverick. Saw it in person when it arrived. Loved it!! Ended up buying a Ranger Tremor. For me its the true 4x4, and 7.5k tow package. And the size overall. Maverick is so practical but extremely small. The bed is shallow and tiny. Drives, and feels like a sedan. Or a beefed up el camino. I think Maverick will set a new standard and that is good news for everyone. Its a great truck for the right person.
I recognize every road you’re driving the Maverick and the Bronco on!!! I drive them all daily! And gosh darned I haven’t seen you guys driving yet!!!! I’ll be receiving my Maverick soon!! See ya around hopefully! Tree rain! 😆
Micah, another great review! It would have been good to discuss the actual transmission in the hybrid drive train. Most people are under the impression it is a standard CVT with pulleys and belts..which it is not.
Thanks so much for reviewing the Hybrid! Still waiting for mine (Hybrid Lariat, most likely won't be delivered until Feb or March). I appreciate you reaffirming my choice! I will not be pulling a key out of my pocket like a chump
Would have been nice if the hybrid batteries could have been discussed in any detail. For example, what does Ford estimate its lifespan is and if it does need to be replaced how long will the warranty cover that?
It has an 8 year Hybrid component warranty that includes the battery. It has the standard 3 yr 36000 mile and 5 yr 60,000 powertrain, everything's covered. I purchased the hybrid Lariat which will be delivered 12/22/21
Good video. Too bad the Hybrid is basically sold out for 2022. I will probably place my order in the summer 2022 for a 2023 XLT model. I have learned from experience, never buy the first yr of a new generation of any vehicle. The main reason I want the Hybrid is because it can be flat towed behind my RV.
Nice!!! I was waiting for this one. Thanks! This truck reminds me of the Bronco Sport a bit and the interior is very practical! Seems like It’s way better than the Santa Cruz.
The steering has a similar rubbery pull back to center like the Bronco Sport. But given the Maverick’s much lower price point and trucky premise, that steering is fine. Similar behavior but different context.
Great and fun review as always. The maverick reminds me of the early 70’s Datsun Pick up. Great first car for a young person. Let’s go flying! Looking forward to you Central Coast trip reports. Cheers
"First car for a young person". A NEW car is your first car? Just shows the divide between rich and poor. Most people's first car is a 20 year old Buick that Aunt Betty drove.
I ordered a Lariat Hybrid in Cactus Grey back in June with no add on except the tow receiver. It's being delivered 3 days before Christmas 🌲🤶🎅🎁 I'm super excited! Thanks for the review
Material quality is better in the Bronco while the Maverick's interior is definitely more stylized. Each has a unique vibe that complements the rest of the vehicle.
I pre-ordered the XL Hybrid model because I am a cheap skate and do not need or use cruise control LOL. I do wish it had the outlet in the tailgate but I'll have to figure out how to use the wiring that is already back there just for small voltage when camping or tailgating, no power tools or anything. I went XL to test out having a Ford and the vehicle in general, if I love it I may upgrade to the XLT or Lariat models in a couple of years. Thanks for the review, this is probably my favorite one yet because one reason I am getting this as my fiance and I plan to start a family fairly soon. Getting pretty excited for my Maverick and can't wait for spring when I should be getting mine around April/May.
The deep door recess - small umbrella, à la Rolls Royce? And if this had been available in 2018, I would have purchased it over my Civic hatchback - great gas mileage and cargo space. The Maverick is a "city" truck, and that's what I wanted but not at the Ridgeline price tag.
Ford wins with this little truck. I am watching this and thinking that this would be perfect for my older father, then I thought, hey this would be perfect for my older son who is starting his family, all the while I am waiting for my Maverick that is on order.
Seems like that front cubby would be *very* useful for things you might need quickly. My son and I each plan to buy a Maverick. My son is diabetic so that space is already earmarked for his pvc bag that contains glucose gel packets. I'll be using it to keep my badges for work. Right now they're stored in my overhead sunglass storage (2014 Mazda CX5). Without too much effort, I'm sure we could all think of something we'd like to have at our fingertips.
Hmmm. A suitable single replacement for the B2300 and the Ayatolla-Corolla. And resultant more garage space for hobby work/junk. 'Didn't see this coming, thanks Ford. Thanks Muzio clan, great review.
Now that the 2022 hybrid is sold out, I realize the eco is a better choice as a road trip truck. MPG not much different hwy even with the extra passing power and AWD for safer driving in weather.
@@stephenowen1087 Unless it is for ski trips with awd and are not forced to chain up, or you want more passing power for not much difference in mpg hwy. The best reason is if you want a Mav sooner than 2023 since the hybrids are sold out until then.
I really like the blue interior trim, especially the plastics. Cruise control's an odd omission, my zero-options '20 Honda Fit LX has it. And an old style not-even-switchblade-action key - but with remote locking which the also base-base model Kia Soul I test drove in Jan '20 didn't have.
new sub here. Why did I not see this channel before? Anyway your presentation captured my curiosity. It's very concise and makes me feel like I'm driving the truck with you. Still waiting for my Maverick, got the production date and VIN issued though. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Cheers. btw, lovely family.
I'm a senior and I NEED cruse control and power mirrors. I was also hoping to put like a Leer cap on it. I don't know if it is possible. Does it need premium gas or can it run on regular? These things are a deal breaker for me otherwise I love it. Ford you "almost" hit it out of the park. Ford give the person who left those two basic thing off a slap on the back of the head. The cost to have those is totally worth it. Can I put them on after market? Leaving those out is taking a step backwards I did not expect that from Ford.
As Jeep makes a $120,000 Grand Wagoneer. Ford nailed it for 95% of people with the Mav. The other 5% have more money than brains these days. I have money but choose not to piss it away.
Yeah cruise control had typically been an option on base level trucks for decades. On my old Dakota, cruise control, electric windows, CD player, automatic transmission, power locks, and cloth seats were options.
There’s more interior space in the Ranger but it feels dated and cheap. The refreshed 2023 Ranger will hopefully be as nice or nicer than the Maverick’s.
The XL will be one of Ford's "loss leaders." A fantastic vehicle they don't actually want you to buy. It's just sold at a price point that attracts customers and push them into the higher trims. Same reason why so many base model vehicle prices are touted but seldomly seen at a dealership.
Great review, guys! With this new Maverick, Ford hits another Home Run! For such an attractive, well thought out hybrid truck priced in the low twenties, Micah? We can gladly learn to use a key again!
My dad drives an older Mazda pickup and I think he would really like something like this. By the way, do you know when you'll be reviewing the new Lexus NX?
HI MUZIOS, GOOD REVIEW!! I really like it, especially the hybrids gas mileage!! But, I'm sorry to hear that the regen brake pedal is "squishy" I figured that since FORD has been selling hybrids almost as long as TOYOTA has, they'd have had that sorted out by now; could be a deal breaker!! Also, since you didn't get to drive it in summer, you don't know if the center a/c vents are so low they blow cold air on your right hand while steering?? Or if your ADORABLE LITTLE DAUGHTER would be hot because there's no rear a/c vents?? And didn't you find the center screen a little distracting because it's offset from the center controls?? And I don't like that there's no locking fuel door, because someone can walk by when it's parked, and throw dirt, sand, and even whizz in the gas tank!! Still, it has a lot of nice features for the cheapest car FORD sells!! THANKS MUZIOS!! CHAS ORVIS, PLAINVILLE, CT.
Oh, that Muzio family is so cute. Just like this truck. I'm pulling for it - I already have too many cars, but if I was in the market - this is a compelling package.
Great review!! Currently looking between the Maverick and compact hybrid crossovers like the Tucson. Any thoughts on inside size/comfort for families between the two?
Like a Corolla Cross chassis with a bed on the rear? RAV4 Prime chassis? The fuel efficiency would be pretty good with either, but the RAV4 used to offer 3500lb towing capacity. The Highlander chassis could tow 5K+ lb, but a unibody pickup from that would be similar size to a Ridgeline. Doesn't the Ridgeline use a Pilot/Accord V6?
Micah, with all the bad to see in the world its refreshing to see a nice young man, his adorable wife and daughter being so happy. God bless your family.
Robert, thanks for leaving such a lovely comment. Made my evening. Cheers!!
Agreed.

Mine was a B2200. Loved that "truck"
"First car for a young person". A NEW car is your first car? Just shows the divide between rich and poor. Most people's first car is a 20 year old Buick that Aunt Betty drove.
Or if Mazda sundowner
@@tombreach my first car was using my moms 8 year old ‘61 falcon station wagon.
I ordered a Lariat Hybrid in Cactus Grey back in June with no add on except the tow receiver. It's being delivered 3 days before Christmas 🌲🤶🎅🎁 I'm super excited!
Thanks for the review
Congrats! And welcome to the Cactus Gray Fam!!
Great review. I am a first time viewer, love the family. I put an order on a Maverick XL. I assume this is the Area 51 color?
Thanks for watching, Dennis! Yes, the Maverick we tested was Area 51. It looks great in person.
Too baby blue for me.
Another winner for Ford. I hope the product launch is smooth.
For the cruise control on XL. You can add it by getting the buttons and tuning it with Forscan. It's quite easy and takes like 30 minutes.
So since you currently own a bronco do you feel that the interior in the cheaper Maverick is better than the Bronco?
Material quality is better in the Bronco while the Maverick's interior is definitely more stylized. Each has a unique vibe that complements the rest of the vehicle.
You're the only youtuber that mentioned that the XLT has cruise control. I thought only the Lariat had it. Thank you.
Happy to help!
This is a home run. I think Ford will do incredibly well with this truck. Also, the noise I make with touchy brakes is “holy ****”
Looking forward to the new Ford Lightning !⚡ Hope to see review of that
Your daughter is so cute and adds charm to the video. Great family video.
Did I see crestline/lake arrowhead sign!! I drive that route every weekend!! Awesome place to drive the Maverick!!
Simplicity of use is key. It’s stupid to have to go through 4 screens to change radio stations
The deep door recess - small umbrella, à la Rolls Royce? And if this had been available in 2018, I would have purchased it over my Civic hatchback - great gas mileage and cargo space. The Maverick is a "city" truck, and that's what I wanted but not at the Ridgeline price tag.
The bottle opener is a good feature!
Perfect...you've hit a niche with the family review! There's at least 3+ segments you can generate per vehicle. Dadi Freyr vibes!!!
Watched this and your Santa Cruz review, this truck is more my speed. Def. getting the Hybrid in (hopefully) a Lariat build..
Ford wins with this little truck. I am watching this and thinking that this would be perfect for my older father, then I thought, hey this would be perfect for my older son who is starting his family, all the while I am waiting for my Maverick that is on order.
7:30 that's enough to make your heart melt.
Feels like the American version of the Dacia Duster. I love the Mavericks rugged style, and it’s creativity
Great video review keep up your great work ! I think these Mavericks will sell well for Ford . The looks are similar to the bigger Ranger and F150 .
"Doooosh" Hmmm, that's usually what I call the person in front of me that unexpectedly slams on their breaks.... although it's spelled differently 😉
I only subscribed for the windowless van review. Looking into review of windowless van for a friend.
The Windowless White Van at 100k should be the new eTransit.
Hmmm. A suitable single replacement for the B2300 and the Ayatolla-Corolla. And resultant more garage space for hobby work/junk. 'Didn't see this coming, thanks Ford. Thanks Muzio clan, great review.
Great review!!! How did you decide on the color? I’m torn between Alto Blue, Area 51, & Cactus Grey!
Now that the 2022 hybrid is sold out, I realize the eco is a better choice as a road trip truck. MPG not much different hwy even with the extra passing power and AWD for safer driving in weather.
Cannot beat the hybrid! I have a fusion hybrid and love my 40 mpg!
Love the looks. All the practicality and good MPGs area bonus.
awesome. i love this car, all the perks of a pickup without any of the hassles
I love the maverick, it’s design is amazing! I’ve placed my order for a Hybrid Lariat. 😍🤩🥳
As Jeep makes a $120,000 Grand Wagoneer. Ford nailed it for 95% of people with the Mav. The other 5% have more money than brains these days. I have money but choose not to piss it away.
Definitely like this truck and looking to getting one for my next purchase!
The comeback of the compact truck
There's some sort of stigma that pickups cant be family vehicles, but Maverick is definitely proving that wrong!
Yeah cruise control had typically been an option on base level trucks for decades. On my old Dakota, cruise control, electric windows, CD player, automatic transmission, power locks, and cloth seats were options.
I love the look of these little trucks. I'd get one & lower it, then add some nice wheels.
Is there more space in the interior then in the ranger?
There’s more interior space in the Ranger but it feels dated and cheap. The refreshed 2023 Ranger will hopefully be as nice or nicer than the Maverick’s.
Disappointed that the xl can’t have cruise control. But still seems like a lot of value even at xlt.
The XL will be one of Ford's "loss leaders." A fantastic vehicle they don't actually want you to buy. It's just sold at a price point that attracts customers and push them into the higher trims. Same reason why so many base model vehicle prices are touted but seldomly seen at a dealership.
The XL is the fleet vehicle. It will be perfect for that use.
Sure can tell the weather is cooler. No overheating cameras. 🚫🔥
cool video. didnt skipped the ad.
Santa Cruz review plz !!! THNX !!! :)
Great review, guys! With this new Maverick, Ford hits another Home Run! For such an attractive, well thought out hybrid truck priced in the low twenties, Micah? We can gladly learn to use a key again!
Loved this review. I'm all for a simple truck!
My dad drives an older Mazda pickup and I think he would really like something like this. By the way, do you know when you'll be reviewing the new Lexus NX?
This truck looks exactly like it should go hand-in-hand with that origami cricket trailer that REI used to have on display.
Can't wait to get my hybrid in that same color!!!!
I'm pulling for it - I already have too many cars, but if I was in the market - this is a compelling package.
im thinking the slot near screen is for garage door opener
Great review!! Currently looking between the Maverick and compact hybrid crossovers like the Tucson. Any thoughts on inside size/comfort for families between the two?
I love the basic FWD version, hope Toyota releases something similar soon
And make it hybrid only with standard all wheel drive.
