- Finally allowed to camp in Ontario, I head out for an Awesome Algonquin Solo Canoe Trip. In Part 1, I head from Rain Lake to McCraney Lake and enjoy paddling and portaging alongside lots of beautiful scenery. I check out a bunch of campsites, before settling on the perfect one, but then find out I'm not alone. I also prepare a tasty dinner and make something I've never had on an adventure before. I hope you enjoy my first backcountry trip of 2021. The series is full of stunning scenery, encounters with the dead and the living, delicious food and lots of laughs and exciting moments.

Glad you’re back to camping!! Onto part 2 🤗
Well fork you! 🤣🤣🤣 Great video, so happy to see your new camping videos, makes everything feel normal again 😊 Definitely watching the series tonight
💚💚💚💚💚
So jealous
Hi Christina, so nice to see you out on another adventure… cheers
Thank you Jim. Cheers
A little backcountry zah! 🍕
So freaking good. Did you hear the crunch. Lmao. Mmmmmm. Cheers jesse. Thanks for watching.
lol 24:30 all loon all the time...! so happy to see you out for a sleepover!
Me too. Lots more to come. Cheers !
I really wish I was there! Thanks for an excellent video
Thanks Brian. I hope you enjoy part 2. Cheers
Awesome video Christina, you weren't excited were you..😂keep them coming onto video #2
Hahaha wait I get more excited on each video. Lmao. Enjoy !
Sometimes YT's algorithm recommends some really good and not so good content, I'm glad I had your channel as a recommendation! Refreshing to see a content creator turn the camera towards the scenery vs focused on themselves 99.9% of the trip, plus your lack of YT music is very much welcomed, I'd rather hear the birds, the wind across the mic vs filler music.
Thank you so much. Yay UA-cam. Finally a referral. Haha. I like the sound of nature and quiet but people do like music so I try to balance it out. I really hope you enjoy my channel and I hear from you again. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Hi Christina, Love watching your videos. FYI,, Just read on the net the following:
Common Loon (Gavia immer) wags its leg in the air to help regulate its body temperature.
Hi Louis. That is so cool. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. A few years ago I looked up loon calls and got familiar with the different kinds and now I see I speak loon but I have never seen that about their feet. I appreciate you sharing that and I will probably be sharing that in a video soon. Much appreciated! Thank you for watching and commenting. Cheers !
"I don't know how to fix a loon" priceless line!!
Bwahahaha. There are a few in this video series that just really made me chuckle. I don’t know where I come up with this stuff? Someone commented on these videos that a loon will hold their foot out of water like that to help regulator body temperature. Pretty cool huh? Cheers my friend! 😊
chuyến tham quan thật thú vị
cảm ơn bạn 😊😊😊
Woo-hoo! New tripping video! I am excited! 😀
Thank you. 😊😊😊 remember to watch to the end. 😉
Whoa crazy footage of the loon Christina. The things you see when in the backcountry eh? Looks like a great little adventure, big thumbs up from some fellow creators and adventurers!
Thank you so much. Cheers !!!
Sorry, I was out on trip when I saw your comment and I’m just checking over to make sure I answered them all. The loon actually holds its foot like that to help control its body temperature. Someone here in the comments looked it up or knew the fact and shared it with me. Quite interesting! Thought you would find it interesting as well so I wanted to share it with you. 😊
@@CamperChristina absolutely 💯 thanks for the follow up! Also glad you made it home safe.
So nice to see Christina, when you get to do the thing you love the most 👍😃😘
Thank you !
Sorry if I commented previously, this is the 2nd time watching this video. We had exactly that same site on the Island on McRaney. The 2nd & 3rd evening, we had a Wolf Pack howling on the western shore, and a Moose run through the site 7-7:3 a.m. (maybe fleeing from the Wolves?). It's the very 1 st time I saw a Canoe Cart in use.
That’s so cool. Thanks for sharing. Cheers !
You could see how much you've been missing camping. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks jay. If you watch the video all the way to the end you may see a link for part two and the same for part three. Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos. Cheers!
Loved the load in from the beaver dam.
Haha I may have cut out the parts where I scratched the canoe. 🤦🏻♀️ don’t tell h2o. Lol
I did that trip with hammock friends couple years ago on the south island site. Awesome nighttime thunderstorm!! loon popped up beside me on my solo paddle out and scared the bejesus outta me - and the long portage out it stormed with thunder and lightning the whole way so used my canoe for an umbrella - Great memories. Looks like the park got a little scruffy too without the traffic. Prob good for it.
Sounds like an amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing it with me. The part definitely looks a little scruffy but I like it as well. Thanks so much for your continued support. Cheers! 😊😊😊
What a wonderful way to get back into camping. I am very happy for you. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your coming soon teasers. Be well my friend, and stay safe.
Thank you hatch !
So great to see you back out camping! Also beating the crowds is the best thing ever.
I doubt I’ll get out to camp in Algonquin this year, and it seems everything is so booked up. Can’t wait to see more!
Thank you so much. I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers ! 😊😊😊
Keep the great videos coming. Your videos put me in a happy place.
I’m so glad. Thank you for sharing that. It makes it worth all the frustrating technical issues. 😊Cheers !
So glad to see you out camping again. Awesome scenery and great food. Love how you talk to all the critters. I do that also. Lol
I like to talk to them just in case they have bigger friends nearby. I’m out there alone so if I’m too quiet, bears might come. 😳
Pizza looked good.
The loon was just saying "hi" Christina!
Lol. If you’re referring to the one with the waving foot someone posted in the comments here that they do this to control their body temperature. It’s actually a thing. Who knew? I’ll be mentioning it the next time I see a loon and I’m out on trip in one of the videos. Good to hear from you Deb. I hope you’re doing well.
OMG the bugs nasty, Happy to see you finally got out, and found an awesome campsite on the island , Congratulations with the fasting as well, I must try that . I am off to you next video of this adventure .
Thanks sue. The bugs were only bad on the portage thankfully. I hope you enjoy the series. Cheers !
Clicked on this video so fast! I was up on Maple Leaf lake in Algonquin this weekend. Was wondering where you would be at 😂. I booked a site on Islet lake last night for August and we'll be hiking along Rain so I'm excited to watch this vlog. Fire ban made the bugs extra brutal this last weekend
Ohhhh I like that lake !! 😊😊😊 did you have a good time. Sorry to disappoint.
Haha...there’s someone on the same island as me...”cool” 😂. I’m so impressed with your one handed ability now, open the ziploc, pour water in, close ziploc...all with one hand!! “So freakin happy”; I wholeheartedly agree now that camping is back! Great video as always Christina, thanks for all your hard work of filming & editing ! ❤️
Urgh it was such a disaster. I got home at 11 AM on Sunday. I had portaged 1.8 K double carry, paddled, driven two hours home, uploaded all the footage, 846 videos and pictures and edited all day and Monday I got home and they were all gone. Arghhhh so much fun. Love love love your comment as always. 😘😘😘 hahaha. Not sure if I told you but Dustin who was on the other side of the island messaged me when I got home on Sunday and said he had recognized me but thought it best not to approach me out there. I told him to watch the video and he’s known as the neighbor. Good times!
Yes I saw Dustin’s comment he was neighbour. I guess you have to watch what you say in videos...you have so many fans that recognize you! It was very kind & respectful of Dustin to be so quiet-he himself an avid backcountry camper!
I rave about him in part 3. Truly impressed with his conduct out there. I always have to watch what I say, lol, always. Lots of snowflakes out there who get offended by everything. I can only do my best and apologize afterwards. Lol. 😊😊😊 my fears and feeling are 100% real and I am who I am. Hopefully people get that I’m just a person like everyone else who’s not perfect in any way. 🤷🏻♀️
PS. Loon,s and duck,s usually rest one of their feet on their back when they can.......you make them safe and calm 👍😉😃
Someone actually told me that loons put their foot out of the water like that to adjust their body temperature. Pretty interesting stuff. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching. Cheers!
@@CamperChristina Yes that make sense! 😃 i have seen swans and seagull do that too......ps. the Norwegian name for Loon is: Lom 😉 We also have a big loon = StorLom (Norwegian funfacts 😂)
Awesome! love it. Thanks !
yep you have to put a lid on the pan so that the heat goes all over the pizza ..the top espicially
I had foil on it. Works just as good. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers
My wife and I were on that lake 2 years ago. (did Rain -> Islet -> McCraney) and stayed on the spot on the West shore just south of your island. It does not have a sandy beach, it has a rock entry. I think it is further south than you were thinking. I wonder if I know what you are referring to for part 2 ... something on the small island at the south tip of the lake?
Yes and yes. Lol. I did that loop a few years ago as well. Both are mentioned ahead. Thanks for not spoiling it. If you go to the end you can click to part 2. 3 will be there in the morning. Couldn’t get it done. Hope you enjoy them. 😊😊😊
Great trip! Beautiful campsite and meals.Wondering what the book are reading is called?
Thank you. I hope you enjoy the series. The book is Rivers Running Free: Canoeing Stories by Adventurous Women. Cheers!
@@CamperChristina Awesome series, thanks! I look forward to your adventures. Thanks for letting me know about the book, sounds very interesting, I'll look for it.
😘
Hi. Stopped the video at 8:25 when you were having sore shoulders and neck. I noticed that you had the paddle shafts between the yoke and your shoulders. It looks like you are concentrating the load on your shoulders under the shafts instead of spreading it out across the yoke. Sorry if I am seeing this incorrectly.
I have a lot of neck problems. The paddles rest on my shoulders and I have a yoke pad on the yoke. I used to use a neck pillow. Trying to figure out which I I like best. The yoke pad is much more secure and stable but the neck pillow is far more comfortable. I also switch positions so parts rest in between each other. What you see me filming, it may just be positioned that way to get a better view for the video, based on lighting, bugs etc. There’s a lot of variety based on that as well. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
During that first portage, I could have sworn that I saw a big black widow hanging from the bow…😳 !
You may have. I will check the footage later and see if I can see it as well. Do you know approximately what time it was on the video? Thanks for the info. I hope you liked the video. 😊
You don't strap your pack into the boat? What if you were to overturn? Has that ever happened to you? The bugs - ugh. We have loads where I live right now and they can make you crazy!
No I don’t. Never have in 20 years. Never have dumped my boat and never have lost any of my stuff. Not sure why my boat would ever just overturn? I also don’t know anyone who does that unless they are maybe running crazy rapids and doing white water trips? Maybe that’s what you were thinking of ? The bugs are amazing here this year. Best I’ve seen in many many years. I hope you liked the video? Cheers
what bug net is that ?????????
This is a eureka vcs 16. They don’t make it anymore but have similar models out. It’s priceless during bug season. You can find a list of all of the year I use on my trips, with links, and details, on my website at camperchristina.com. Cheers
35:58 Thanks, rub that in my face!
Hahaha the pizza ????? 🤣🤣🤣
What is the name of the book you were reading?
Rivers Running Free: Canoeing Stories by Adventurous Women. I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
@@CamperChristina Thank you.
Happy to help! A friend gave it to me and it’s full of all different smaller stories about different women throughout different times. It’s very Interesting.
