- Richard answers that everyday question - can a car survive the thrust of a Boeing 747's engines? A Citreon 2CV and a Ford Mondeo are the test subjects lending a helping hand to find out.

1910: in the future we will have flying cars
2010: we were close enough
Technically if we put a car in a cargo plane we’ll have flying cars😂
why 90 days to change my name? I love your name
uh 1910 they were probably like: in the future we might have aeroplanes
underrated comment... indeed
@bien bien Tesla is bad in my opinion
Welcome to episode 29 of "How much budget does Top Gear have?"
Matthew Scarr you wrote it twice dumbass
Bruce Searle Its the youtube bug dumbass
Jeremy: So what's our budget?
BBC: y e s.
Plane Time You mean the Grand Tour with the big budget. GT spent like 50x more
burritossnores they cant get fired if they own the show shake my head
2:23 with that music I was expecting Sauron's Army to come charging across the airstrip.
it's the urukhai theme I think, aka Saruman's army
i was think this music is from lotr
"One does not simply walk into Mordor" said Boromir... Frodo decided to take a 747 flight to mordor and tossed the ring into the fires of mount doom. Boromir was baffled, he said "Well, guess thats that, off to gondor bois".
Lol
I just imagine an entire army of orcs charging at the 747, and the 747 just blowing them all away. No problem.
Is it only me, who amazed by not only the fact, how much of insane pressure those wings take and not ripping off, but also how this machine simply parks there, while being pushed forward that heavily? The brakes and the landing gear are sick constructions. I keep being amazed by technology.
People really underestimate the forces that those constructions encounter, and that while being very complex as well. Underrated pieces of equipment.
This is indeed as amazing as much as your comment is underrated.
They used blocks on the wheels for this test, but yes, still impressive.
@@jeanackle I can smell the fedora-tipping from here
@@aznanimegob Is that supposed to mean something?
Not many shows have this kind of budget.
Not many shows have this kind of income too
tdcat.com the grand tour is this shows budget on steroids
myth busters did this
Although they used a very old 747-100 (PW JT9D-7) in Myth Busters that was about to be scrapped and myth-busters barely got it on their show... The one in Top Gear is the newer and more powerful 747-400 (GE CF6-80)...
I know
so thats why my flight was late
Oh
Nah as they hired it for a full day
SHADOWSLAYER its a joke
SHADOWSLAYER woosh
Nah, your flight was late because they had to send a replacement after it lost both engines and its heading and crash landed in a swamp and the pilot got into a drunken brawl with Shrek, forgetting that the big green guy is Scottish, so he ended up in the back of an ambulance.
4:18 - 4:28 I can imagine what it's like sitting next to Richard Hammond whilst he's driving a supercar
dude🤣
Especially an electric one
Lmaooo
I love how they “attempted” to censor the Virgin branding and then forgot halfway through
lmao i read your comment whilst thinking about that scene
i believe they've censored it because of the BBC branding though
@@migdaora Because the BBC is a public broadcaster, they're not allowed to show of brands or products from companies because they're not allowed to advertise or even accidentally do product placement. The only time they mention brands is if they are critiquing or reviewing it. In that way, they are free to mention any product they want (so long as its for reviews or critiques) and no brand gets more exposure for it than any other.
The fact they forgot to censor halfway through is probably just an editing mistake.

2:59 so much for hiding the airline
TruckerGuy135 why do they need to hide it?
Advertising purposes
I guess it would be expensive to take an airliner for this kind of stuff. Maybe showing the company Logo was a way to lower it
At certain points you can see the Virgin logo censored but at other points it isn’t.
@@harryrichardson7628 BBC is taxpayer funded and doesn't allow any advertising, which includes product placement. This means that shows have to blur out all company names and logos that aren't relevant to the show (car brands can stay because that's the point of the show, but the airline company is irrelevant so it has to be blurred out). This is to ensure that there's no "under the table" product placement going on (e.g. perhaps virgin airlines could have said to the top gear producers "Hey, show our logo on the back of a plane in your show and we'll pay you £100,000"). The fact that all logs are blurred out means that this can't happen, and therefore we know that they used a virgin plane for this shot just because that was the easiest plane they could get, not because virgin paid them. If this was a show on any other channel you couldn't be so sure.
I'm not even surprised that even a car enthusiast talks correctly about the 747 unlike other people and youtubers this day.
That it richard hammond.
Hammond's not only a car guy, he's a bit of a plane guy too, and he has a helicopter license

If they tried this with the Marauder, it wouldn't budge -or would smash off the engine.-
Joseph Simpson / it would flip over, the marauder is too slab sided, the high CG, high ground clearance and high suspension travel will easily flip it over.
Smash off the engine?
obi_dank_kenobi / maybe he is saying that the marauder is so awesome that the jetblast would break the CF6’s off their pylons before the marauder would tip over? It’s very dumb but I can’t think of anything else it could be
- Aaronbatics - the engines are actually designed to break off very easily in an emergency. The GE90 (the world’s largest engine fitted on the 777) has only two super strong bolts. It is designed this way so that in the event of a ditching, the engines break off and don’t cause the plane to break in half. This is due to the fact that the engines would act as a sort of scoop, slowing down the plane too rapidly during a ditching. Obviously this can be harmful for the passengers as they can suffer whiplash and slam their heads on the PTvs in front. As demonstrated in Cactus 1549 which landed safely in the Hudson, both engines broke off the A320 and ended up at the bottom of the Hudson River. Nobody had any life threatening injuries.

777 would destroy one of those automobile land things ;)
Also, a 747-400 model can deliver 99000lbf, a 777 General Electric GE90 can deliver a minimum of 74000lbf. But a 747-400 has 4, a 777 has 2. 744vs777? 744 wins ;)
But as this model, apparently, uses GE CF6's, they are not quite as powerful. But 744 all the way still :')
