Great video! The only modification I will make is using the other half of the top rail at the bottom as a place to rest the stocks.

Thank you, thank you. I have some extra closet space and wanted a simple rack to put in a corner. I don' t need to display my rifles but don't want to leave them in the carry cases all the time. This is perfect. I may add a shelf or two underneath for ammo, etc. I'll also us a cable lock through the trigger guards. Keep up the good work.

This is simple enough,...so as I am in Canada, I am compelled by law to lock my rifles in a case like this.....This would be an easy enough job to do too. You've shown me the way to get started without a lot of expense, but still be able to 'show off' my rifles.
    Thanks.

I like it. Fast and inexpensive. I think it could be modified bt doubling it so there are two sides and you have two rows of rifles back to back. Need something like this for muzzle loaders

  • @MrGeoffois

Nice and simple. I'm sure you can add a second notched board a few inches lower should you wan to put in shorter guns and it won't get in the way of the longer guns plus it will add strength.

I used a hole saw, cut several holes in line down the center of the board, and then cut the board in half giving me two boards with the half circles.

I know what you mean, but I found a happy medium for both long C&R rifles and more modern mil rifles. 33" on the vertical boards is the magic number. It holds my Mosin 91/30 and AK74 just fine. And that spacer box idea is awesome.

  • @xwig16

Hey, just an idea... you can also drill some very small holes where your barrel sits in the half circle at the top and insert some small "super" magnets in each that will magnetize the barrel to the rack.

Nice video. Ony criticism I have is it would be nice for you to comment on measurements like height width of the straight edge marked for hole saw. But still very good video.

  • @woodlina
    @woodlina 11 років тому

David . . . very well done. Simple elegance. You could use the same double hole drilling method to get a start on a horizontal gun rack as well. Then lay the boards on top of each other and drill a second smaller hole through BOTH boards, intersecting the first hole, thus creating a deeper notch to lay the gun in horizontally, and a "lip" projecting up to keep the gun upright and stable.

What’s the measurement for line in the middle of the hole saw. The line you cut with the power saw? What’s that measure

I've been thinking of building a easy gun rack for all my guns that will not fit into my safe and all of the gun racks ideas I seen yours or should I say 7.62x54R is far the best idea, the cheapest and the easiest to build. Thanks

I think the top board would have to be wider to allow for scopes mounted on rifles to clear the wall. Looks good for shotguns and scopeless rifles, though.

also, for those of you that are child safety conscious, a couple holes drilled in the sides and a good cable lock through the trigger guards would secure them from children :)

Just an idea it is a well made rack but just for stability I would have added a piece of wood across the back center of it just to keep it from ever doing the side to side thing if it is ever impacted from the side. Not that your gonna be beating on it or anything but I am always a person who thinks of sturdiness and I like things to last for 20 years or more.
But as I said it really is a nice rack.

You should have put a board half fcb way up the back for bracing and.... then you can take old leather belts and drill them to the back board so that you can strap those rifles to the rack as well. I know it's not going to be moved but it just adds time to anyone just grab no going with the fire arm plus it looks (if they are customer guns ready for pick up) as if you care just a tiny bit more about the customers finished fire arm. Or in other words you appreciate your work a bit more so better on cost for you and appreciated by them when charged to them. Any how thanks for the ideas I'm doing the same right now as we speak to my office kmsl sdi student hooah

Why would you reverse the hole saw on the back side of the wood? The teeth still cut the same direction. Pretty sure harbor freight's "dull hole saw" would work just fine if you let it cut the way it's supposed to.
