R.I.P. Virgil. My wife and i, along with our special needs niece, who's a huge wrestling fan, met Virgil at a local eatery. He was more than gracious, posed for a pic and signed an autograph for my niece, then joined us for lunch. He made my niece a really happy kid and gave her a memory to last the rest of her life.
Don't mean too be a douche but did he try too ask for money or con you in some way
@@perrycoffey5410 how did you know you were actually a douche bag? You just ratted yourself out 😂
@@perrycoffey5410 you just gotta be the one huh
@@perrycoffey5410I heard he's charging 20 bucks just to go to his funeral 😮
How much money did he ask you for?
I seen Virgil multiple times in a flea market in Ohio selling autographs. I bought one because he looked so sad and it made me feel terrible for him. He was extremely nice. RIP
Lol
I met him at WonderCon probably around 2008-2012 or thereabouts. He was a very sweet guy but seemed a bit dismissive of his WWF days and lamented how underutilized he was considering his amateur wrestling experience. But I could see he didn't have the rizz to be a superstar as Debiase said. RIP.
Four Seasons Flea Market in Youngstown? That's where I met him numerous times
Miss the days of him setting up at 4 seasons & Rogers flea market. He had some great stories!
@@oldironsides4107 Apparently hard luck stories make you laugh, huh? PUH.
I met mike (virgil) at a county fairgrounds in Vermont in the 1990s.He was there taking pictures with people for money.
Many didn’t know who he was, but wrestling fans did.
I took a picture with him and gave him his $20.I was walking away and he asked me if i was a wrestling fan, i said not really but loved good entertainment.I told him that some of the story lines in the WWF( at the time)were over the top and that’s what made them interesting.
I asked him if he wanted a beer and he said “ i shouldn’t but its hot, so ok”.
He had his beer and we talked a bit about nothing important i drummed up a little bizz for him while i was there with him and before i left, the man gave me back my $20 .
He was super nice with me and hope he is at peace.
God rest his soul !!!
🙏🙏🙏
❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing that
Class all around.
That's a beautiful story. What a nice memory to have!
Virgil: is a Man whom I respected for his own demeanor on camera. tbh, I never met the man in person, let alone seen him either. He is the greatest man in all of wrestling without having to speak a word ❤ 🥰!!!!
Good story
Virgil hitting Ted DiBiase with the Million Dollar Championship was such an iconic moment. That moment inspired countless individuals to stand up to and fight back against their bullies and oppressors.
Yep
It was great, long-form storytelling with a payoff. Everybody loves an underdog story like that.
The fans like face turns too and Dibiase was one of the best heels ever so everyone wanted that
@@grant1739 For sure
When Virgil beat Dibiase for the Million Dollar belt I always thought Virgil could have potentially been a good mid card superstar. Sad it never happened. RIP Mike Jones.
I’m sure DiBiase had to walk him through their matches because he looked good when matched with Ted. Other than that, he was nothing special in the ring.
Virgil got a huge response from the crowd when he finally turned on DiBiase. Unfortunately, Virgil just wasn't a good wrestler and didn't have charisma. Maybe a manager would have helped or teaming him with someone that could talk or work better.
Virgil was best used as a slave/servant as it was true to who he was as the core.
@@oldironsides4107 That's why they put him with Piper for awhile. They should have found a good long term tag team partner to do the talking for him.
Virgil was not a good worker in the ring. I can remember watching a number of his matches where he was jittery and off in the ring. He just wasn't very good I liked his entrance music though.
I was working in a Liquor Store in Springfield IL back in the late 90's and WCW was there. Mike came into the store in his NWO shirt and i yelled Oh SHIT!!! He turned and looked at me and smiled as soon as he realized that was for him. I grabbed a brown paper bag and a pen and ran over to him for his Autograph. He was Extremely Gracious and talked to me and the 2 people in the store, also signing Autographs for them as well. After a few minutes he went to check out with a bottle and I told him Ted paid for it already. He grinned and said 2 Sweet........
Lucky you. He sounds like he was a lovable character.
@@tony-bi1hj He was a down to earth kinda guy, appreciated the fans
I hate employee theft and I hated the story until Vincent said 'too Sweet "
Never did get why places give celebrities things for free. Liquor stores restaurants convenience stores etc a celebrity walks in and it's on the house. These are the richest people in the world. If anyone can afford to pay for their shit, it's a celebrity. Try giving free stuff to people who actually need and deserve it
@@joshuablevins4340Relax, it was just one item. 😂
I don't know why, but I always liked Virgil. He seemed like a nice guy. RIP
Probably because you e never been close to him
Yeah because he finally stood up to Dibiase. Made Virgil a baby face. Then joined the NWO which put him over again.
I met him at a fitness expo in 2007. He was the coolest guy.
Same
Virgil was one of the nicest guys in the business he got took advantage off because he was to nice
I can’t picture them apart, ever. Whenever I hear Dibiase, Virgil comes to mind and vice versa. Sad news 📰 once again. RIP Virgil!!! Virgil definitely accentuated Dibiase’s WWF Million Dollar Man character ❤.
No, he didn't.
@@PatBrooks-u6w come on now, having a man servant certainly accentuated the Million Dollar Man character.
I agree. Dibiase was with Virgil during his most successful run in the WWF. After they broke up, both their careers fizzled and lost some steam. They later tried pairing Ted with Sherri and Jimmy Hart but the magic and chemistry, unlike what he and Virgil possessed, just wasn’t there. And the same goes for Virgil and Piper.
I will never forget when Virgil and Ted had the title match for the million dollar belt. When Virgil pinned the Million Dollar Man we all were all going crazy. That was just an awesome moment.
You can tell Ted didn't stay in touch with Virgil after their glory years were over.
Dibiase was quoted saying once, " Virgil's a guy where the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top, you know what I mean."
RIP Virgil.
Exactly. Ted DiBiase is fake, no doubt.
In Ted DiBiase defense, most everybody said that about Virgil.
@@lesglover6515 Unlike most Pro Wrestlers...and fans.
How disrespectful TED!!! Hope you beat that case in Mississippi for STEALING that money😅😅😅

Paul Vachon, Ole Anderson & Virgil in the span of three days.
Rest well gentlemen, you will be sorely missed 🌺
Paul the Butcher Vachon the adoptive father of Luna Vachon passed away also on the 29th.

@@hector-sauvage That's actually often true for any celebrity, not just for wrestlers.
Wow didn't know Ole died..it's funny cause I thought man he is up there I hope he doesn't go soon
Yes indeedy
Eternal Blessings upon all 3 of them❤❤❤😢
Virgil beating Ted at Summerslam 91 was one of my favourite wrestling moments as a kid.
It was very entertaining…but Rowdy Roddy Piper On Commentary Got That Match OVER even more…very emotional moment!
@@charlesgreen8703 Yes Piper definitely added to it
One of my friends works part time for a local promotion in Maryland and brought Virgil by my house one day since he was there signing autographs. Was really nice guy. Sad to hear he had so many problems
RIP Mike Virgil Jones
I had the great pleasure of meeting and speaking briefly with Virgil outside the Birch Run Expo Center prior to an in house wrestling show with an independent promoter. Virgil arrived a couple of hours before the show and I never forget what he said to me. "Ya gotta keep moving in order to pay for your bills in life". He was so right. R.I.P. Mike.
RIP Virgil. I got the favorable opportunity to meet you awhile back at Retro Con, Ted. You really are one of the few genuine guys I’ve met and I still have the DVD of The Price of Fame you signed for me, thank you so much brother and I hope you are able to come back to Retro Con in Oaks eventually.
Seems like Virgil never had kids all that money he made in the WWE.
RIP Virgil. I flipping loved him as a kid. At one point, Virgil was not only the leader of the nWo but also a technical genius. Seriously. He came and wrestled at Southampton Guildhall here in the UK in 2001. Not only was he the only person still coming out to the nWo music and in the t-shirt at that point, therefore the de-facto boss, but he also beat British grappling wizard Doug Williams via flatliner/armbreaker takedown into a Fujiwara. What a total legend!!!
Awesome. I wish I lived on the coast where all the wrestling is
@@arostwocents We get some decent shows here but personally I’d rather live much nearer / between Newcastle and / or the whole of Lancashire. Most and best shows there, I think. I can drive to London and back for events but can’t easily get up any further without a bed somewhere! Going to Wembley?!
Virgil was really over that summer of 1991. He stayed mostly over. He wasn't great in the ring, but it was always nice to see him on Superstars or losing on Primetime Wrestling.
Wow😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Just because he's dead doesn't give you the okay to just show up and blatantly lie.
You'd have to be around back then to see it. Yeah it's true that Virgil was really over at one point, and I'm assuming the summer of 91 was when he broke off from Ted, he was getting pretty good reactions on that alone. He couldn't keep that momentum up forever though. He ended up just being a jobber.
@@sleazyfellow Lying about someone is a terrible thing to do, especially in death.
Glad Ted is still alive, he was one of my favourite wrestlers as a kid, I wish I still had the figure with the belt, epic.
Virgil's face turn was a huge and memorable moment in my youth, cheering at the top of my lungs for him.
I remember Virgil the bodyguard . He was cool
It's a shame these two never reconciled. But that's neither here or there. At the very least, Ted didn't try and sugarcoat his past statements regarding Mike.
I find it worse when people try to go back and sugarcoat what they said because of a passing. It's fake. If you have beef with somebody and you don't squash it before they pass. It's too late. That's why you should do it today.
I respect Ted for not changing his stance
If I remember Ted's only beef with Virgil was over Virgil intentionally advertising them both appearing at various events even though Ted was never booked or scheduled to appear at said events.
@tonyducks1121 I heard that and he charged people for photographs that people didn't want
RIP Virgil " Mike Jones " thanks for the memories.
RIP VIRGIL..speaking for alot of the older wrestling fans it's pretty accurate to say virgil was a big part of our childhood
Maybe yours. 😂😂😂
Virgil and Ted were a huge part of wrestling history. One of the best feuds and Virgil would be a fun character to have post the angle. R.I.P Virgil.
I remember Virgil when he started wrestling in Memphis as Soultrain Jones,he had a couple of title runs while in Memphis,he held the International title and was in a tag team with Rocky Johnson and held the southern tag team titles.
Was he able to work in the ring? Do you recall his mic skills?
@@greense65 He was charismatic and over with the fans and came to the ring dressed in gear like Apollo Creed in Rocky 4,there is a video on UA-cam of him with the song Living in America by James Brown.
@@jasonr.3173 Thanks for the info!
If only he could’ve used his social media meatsauce gimmick during his career. I can picture him doing a comedy segment with R Truth at an Olive Garden.
"I AM YOUR BEEF GOD! AND YOU SHALL PAY ME IN $20's!" 😂
Liberty watcher that sounds ridiculous and so do you
The Virgil/Dibiase match at Summerslam '91 is such an underrated gem in the history of that event.
This came faster than expected but Ted DiBiase handled that topic with what character he has left.
Which is close to none. Classless pos.
RIP what a great character and a great time
Ted DiBiase is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. He had this one match with One Man Gang that I still remember to this day. One of the best matches I've ever seen. RIP Virgil.
These guys were a big part of my childhood.
Mike lived near my buddy recently and would see him at Walmart and see him at the local Pittsburgh comic con . Always said hello to each other. Kinda cool little story . Virgil was all about that F money ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Rest In Peace sir .
I used to see him around town all the time. He used to pay for his own booth at Steel city con.
Virgil is a legend in my eyes and deserves his dues. He was a part of some of the biggest and best storylines in history.
R.I.P
Wow!!! I used to watch Ted and Virgil back in 1988-1990. Sorry to hear about that and thanks for posting!
That was a great era to be watching WWF, and Virgil was a memorable part of it.
I'm trying to figure out what people are whining about. Ted didn't trash this guy. For all the "linked together" nonsense, Ted was a lot kinder about Jones than Rick Steamboat has been about Jay Youngblood over the years. Promoters stick these guys together. It's not a marriage "joined together until death do you part". SMH.
I met Ted and Virgil years back at a car show where I live and I recall Virgil making sure I paid up for the picture and autograph with them and Ted sorta shaking his head about it lol.
All the folks attacking Ted for not saying enough to praise Virgil obviously don't know all the details and stories about all the years Virgil spent illegally trying to get merch money at conventions without Ted's permission using his signature etc
Virgil was living on the edge while MDM was giving church sermons and simultaneously stealing money from a state welfare fund.
I dont think you should be mentioned Ted and illegally getting money in the same sentence when trying to defend Ted lol
@@GameTime-yj6qv he's definitely in hot water over that situation, but it still doesn't change the fact that he held a grudge over Virgil's actions
@@GameTime-yj6qv indeed they r both scumbags lol
So sorry for your loss. I was lucky enough to meet the two of you at a car show in Louisville, KY and was able to chat with you all for a few minutes. You both were very nice, great guys. I remember Mike talking about my ICP shirt. Rest in peace, Mike.
I was a really young fan when Virgil and Ted had their feud. If they would have pushed Virgil the fans were cheering him, i know i was, i loved seeing him bounce around and get even with the Million Dollar man..but like Ted said, he wasn't a great wrestler and couldn't talk. That made his ceiling pretty low. He still had a better run in the WWF than most wrestlers could dream of, RIP Virgil.
I appreciate the honesty of Ted DiBaise, letting the facts speak for themselves.
I met Virgil at a autograph signing at the cherry Hill Mall back in 2003 and Virgil very nice guy and it made my day meeting him and talking about the best of his years in pro wrestling and I still remember him winning the million dollar belt at summerslam 1991 and i was very good to see him and he even signed me a autograph signing back in 2003 and that was a good moment for me to see him and virgil came along ways in pro wrestling and he should have been inducted in the wwe hall of Fame because of his work and accomplishments in pro wrestling.
I saw Ted vs Virgil in San Diego when the feud was happening
I met Ted and Virgil at a ComicCon about 10 years ago. Ted has got to be one of the nicest guys i have ever met. I told him i was a Soldier and he was so humble and grateful to me about it. Except it was me who was so humble on how much respect he had. I mean, this waw my childhood bad guy. Such a great bad guy as the million dollar man.
Your society is messed up - why is it grateful to people who allow the billionaires to prosecute unjust and aggressive wars all over the earth? To occupy over 100 nations? Anyone who has served should be looked down on as the scum of the earth unless they are now speaking out about the truth to stop others making their mistake
USA has been at war for 96% of its history
It's the most aggressive nation in human history. And you glorify the soldiers that allow that. Germany glorified their soldiers too.
Falklands soldiers were seen as heroes in Britain was it was a defensive war for real.
Iraq veterans are AT BEST seen as dupes for the evil aggression of the US that we followed. There is sympathy for those who were already in when it began but those who joined up after and don't regret it are seen as unaliving scum
Especially considering every social service in Europe has failed or is failing due to the mass migration US wars and sanctions has brought on. It's mental that tools for the ruination of country after country AND ALL OF WESTERN EUROPE are seen as heroes in the US - shows how effective the propaganda is

Because they both played their characters so well
1st met Virgil, when he wrestled as Soul Train Jones on a NY indy show. RIP Mike
mike jones was a great dude. i bumped into him at steel con a few years ago. he gave me sweet advice about family. he also shopped at a store that i worked at near his home in PA. all the workers mentioned that he was a good and chill dude. what is cool, every time i see an image of the dude i think of his kindness and his love of his grandchildren. he was always a good man everytime i came across him. seeing him in classic wwf/wwe vidz is fun, because he had his moment to shine.
Amazing real stories. I love to hear about the life behind the scenes, thanks!
Guess virgil aint lonely no more... rip.
I really like his look, big arms, lean body mass, and then that menacing scoul. Hard to believe he passed away at such a young age of just 61.
Virgil lived a full life. Three scores and ten. He peaked at 41 at summer slam in 1991. His family confirmed he was ten years older than his ring age.
I almost booked Virgil for a show in San Diego, we couldnt make it happen but he was always a nice guy when we'd text.
You look good for your age Million Dollar Man! My Condolences to Virgil

He was always a great lower mid carder in my Hasbro federation. He had a great figure for playability. He used a lot of kicks and chops. Its sad he passed. The net was harsh to him but the way he used to set up his stand anywhere was absolutely cool, he will always be a legend.
RIP Virgil/Mike Jones. I read an article after he died and I felt a bit guilty because for a few years it was a freakin' cottage industry of mocking the man and cracking jokes on him but he had a rough last few years.
I enjoyed his association with Ted and they were great together.

when i was a kid i saw dibiase wrestle at the erie civic center in the 80's. it was the first time i saw an event in person. when dibiase came down the isle i looked at my dad and said "that guy is huge, why does he need a bodyguard?" i did realize how big of a guy dibiase was until i saw him in person.
Ted Still Looks Great!!
Virgil was a regular at my casino in the Poconos. Always had good things to say about Ted and Vince. Loved telling stories about the good old days.
I'm an middle aged guy now but I still remember seeing Dibiase on TV when I was a teenager. I saw Ted Dibiase about 10 years ago when he visited New Zealand. I felt like a kid again. LOL
I was surprised to see his name in the news. I always liked you and Virgil as a dynamic in wrestling back then. Sad he had some bad luck in his final years and he died young for these days, may he RIP.
Ted looks incredible!
Virgil seemed like he had a great athletic move to him ..he was very light on his feet ..its sad he passed so young..he really was not old
He lived three score and ten. His family confirmed he was ten years older than we all thought.
I met Virgil and Tatanka at a quick meet-and-greet before an event at Sullivan Arena in my hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. Both of them were nice, but Virgil took the time to shake my hand and pose for a picture of that handshake. I think I was 10 at the time. Virgil turning on DiBiase was one of the biggest face turns in my childhood memory. I hope Mike Jones has found his peace.
Just want to say RIP Mr. Jones. I had the pleasure of meeting many of the super stars of Wrestling back in the 80's when they did the Omaha Neb. Civic auditorium circuit. Virgil was one of them. I had the chance to meet them with their guard down a little cause I usually got to see them one on one in their hotel room. My encounter with Virgil will always stick in my mind but that's between me and him. It was nice to see someone who looked like me on the cards and I probably have some insite due to my encounter as to why they fell out. Just wish they had walked a mile in each others shoes and they would have realized they both bled to get to where they did. And yes most of them were much larger in real life.
There's no MDM without Virgil.
Thats false Dibiase would have been great with or without Virgil but still sad RIP
Ted already had a decent career before he was Million Dollar Man, but I can't deny how iconic Virgil was as his bodyguard when he was Million Dollar Man.
Must be weird for Ted meeting this guy when Ted was maybe 33 and Virgil 24. He's always a bit of a kid to you, and then he dies.

Of course! It's called having tact, respect and not trying to have the public turn on you and view you as a negative person. He still slipped some disses in there though.
I agree if you talk bad about a person a lot when they alive when they die just stay quiet do not give a comment on nothing
I can't stand people that do that if you didn't like him in life stay quiet after death
I've seen people tactfully recognize conflict and bitterness between them and the deceased but then set it aside to speak of the good side of the deceased. It's really not hard to do.
He had charisma just not on tv. I once spent 4 hours with Virgil at a local show and he told me stories for 4 hours straight! He was very cool and gave me a hug before he left. RIP
Virgil may not have had the talent or charisma but fans loved him regardless. Really unique character, RIP and thanks for the memories

Yea, he was a pretty cool guy. I met him at the Autorama here in Detroit (he was signing autograph). He played football & and wrestled in College
Amazing that Virgil was also 10 years older than we originally thought, and stayed in great shape. RIP.
It seems fans constantly dumped on Jones after he was gone from the spotlight, mostly from the lack in interest in him at conventions. Some seem to forget how over he was during his entire WWF run, esp in 1991 when he turned face leading to more in ring involement and matches. Definitely was instrumental in building the Million $$ Man character. RIP good man
That's because he was a lying scumbag. He'd forge DiBiase's name on his pictures.

Recalling survivor series way back- Jake was about to finish off the million dollar man to win the match for the hulk's team. Virgil jumped on the apron to distract Jake and then sold the hell out of the resulting DDP he received from the Snake. To finish the sequence, Dibiase rolls the seemingly "knocked out" Virgil off the mat onto the concrete floor without a concern in the world. What an amazing duo!! RIP Virgil
