Imagine if you had the space to put a small screen there where the "damaged" panel is and play a gif of R-2 doing some maintenance on it.
That over rules my idea.
This is an Amazing idea!!
^
I like this idea, probably not enough space where that panel is going, but would be super cool
Even just a screen with some mechanical looking parts and some sparks going off would be cool
The fact that Jay said we can cut a pcb “oh, but not that one” so many times, makes me feel like it will in fact be that one. Lol good stuff Jay keep em coming!!!
Flashbacks of when he (I think it was Jay) drilled straight through a new motherboard... Lmao.
Thank you Jay 🤘🤘
"Gaps are space-like right?"
Yes, the soul sucking vacuum of space would love for you to have gaps in your ship xD
But Gamers Nexus said airflow's a good thing, right!?!?
Yes, space exists in-between gaps
That's what she said. Heheehhehehe
Yeah because there definitely couldn't be a forcefield or transparent metal covering gaps. JEEZ. TRANSPARENT ALUMINUM. Wait that's Star Trek.
@@dividion8102 Thanks Steve
Jay: "We could pretend something exploded out of it"
Me: Yeah... a Gigabyte PSU...
Or an amd 290x
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
dead meme
@@PabzRoz you definitely own a gigabyte psu
Inside a case which had the habits of setting itself on fire
17cm wide by 13½" is a perfectly valid measurement. We do that kind of crap in the UK all the time as we use both systems side by side. Whichever measurement is closest on the tape measure is the one to use for accuracy 🤣
So true. I have socket sets and wrenches in both scales, because we need them.
That's actually a good idea.
You could get a much more granular measurement that way.
I can confirm this, as my dad has used measurements this way for years and it makes sense if you know how to go from one or the other, in Northern Ireland we did both Imperial and Metric in math class with no calculators allowed.
Same in canada, we useboth farenheit and celsius depending on situation and same with inch/cm
@@ggrt21 I mean, it's much 3ssier to do Celsius and Kelvin, but points for knowing that -40 means the same thing in merkican and science
I feel like having a rip in the front as an entrance would make the back side's exit hole look really cool. Like a blaster bolt went through it.
That's actually a very good idea
I was thinking the same. It would look really cool that way. And then with red RGB inside flickering like a fire 🔥
Yeah, a projectile entry point on the opposite panel (smooth dented inward) and of course flickering yellow and orange leds.
@@rtyler1869 Honestly I’m okay with whatever he does because It usually ends up good. And hope he finds a way to incorporate the pcb in some way, but I really hope he sees this some how. Whether you comment it again or w/e I really think having like red RGB could tie that together quite well
"Back side's exit hole" teeheehee 😁
phils editing makes great comedy out of nothing, much respect for him
Being there when filming and then editing must be pretty cool as an editor and I bet helps the whole process
It's the Phil of the Future! (I know, I know.)
Yeah he knows how to edit
"It's 17 centimeters over 13 1/2 inches" You can always count on Jay to make a hilarious remark and Phil to make the best of it.
Jay: 17cm x 13.5in
Me: Oh, he's going to the special hell. With the engineers that crashed the Mars probe.
as an engineer i would like to admit i also use both.... which ever is closest
@@AGRElectrics I'm so glad he didn't mention Whitworth heads would have exploded
Or he's spent time in England! We use a combination of both metric and imperial, not usually for the same project, But ive definitly done it when when measuring, Oh its exactly 6" by .... 85mm! Makes it interesting!
Check out some random engineering CAD files. Not the finalized ones but the WIP ones. You'll find: 5" , 2.5in, 3mm and every possible combination of them. If you find the right one you might find a singular formula with all possible measurements, all tailed off with a *1m or whatever the desired compiled unit just so that it shows as the same unit when viewing the semi-detailed views. Still trying to fit a furlong into a CAD file but they just never seem to match up with all the other measurements systems in any cohesive manner.
@@eideticex I'm sure the engineers was doing it as a conscious challenge 😂
"This is our dead RTX Titan." Damn that hurts
"17cms by 13 1/2 inches"
Me at work when it just happens to be bang on the measurement
Jay: guys, im sorry for all that construction noise outside, we hate it just as much as you do
Also Jay: 3:40
Looks cool Jay. Be sure to paint some of those panels slightly different colors as if they where scavenged from other ships.
Exactly they shouldn't match and need to redo the burn marks around the hole after its been painted
Nice idea. Like some sort of "galactic advertising" that's half painted on one panel in bright orange or something.
Jay never laughs at Phil's jokes. Phil is low-key the star of the channel.
The "dry"ist of humors needs a proper 24 hours to realize
I love these mod videos. That section at 5:02 is just riveting
9:00 first the paint, because the "burnig fx" is super cool :)
4:35
That drill bit is screaming "Stop-bending-meeeeeeee!!"
Oh god, that poor drill bit. In the words of Louis Rossman "PUT THE TOOL DOWN! PUT IT DOWN!"
Another tip. To easily fix gaps. Just place one sheet of the plastic underneath the other on a cutting board then secure them both with tape etc, then use a sharp knife like an exacto to cut the bottom sheet and then you will have a matching edge with no gaps.
I learnt this trick and many others years ago when I use to build and fly radio controlled scale aircraft.
you should put a burn hole in the gpu, it would add a lot to the looks of the build.
Jay I've watched a few of your builds and I get the feeling you can get burned out with ideas, what to do with the build, how to do what you want, etc. I think you do a really good job with your builds and wish you wouldn't give up on your ideas/builds as easy.
Please don't give up on this build - not saying you will, but I have a fear that you will.
Trust in your abilities/ideas and just go with it.
Finishing something that you aren't super happy with is better than abandoning something because it won't be perfect.
4:34 Love the slow zoom in on the bent drill bit lol
Mixing measurement between standard and metric doesnt bother me. Conversions are easy... But watching Jay drill holes spiked my anxiety. Lol. That poor drill bit!!! 😂😂
that drill bit was screaming for help
Since you are using a 3D-printer for the top fan shroud, you should see if you can get a PCB printed as well. That way it will be completely flat and go behind the damaged panel. After you paint it with primer you would not see the print lines.
"Scrounge military"..... bro did you see the way that drill bit bent @4:35.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Take some of the crystals of the tempered glass panels and super glue them to the area around the hole to have some sparkles as parts were vaporized and condensed as it blew out. The lights from the inside will refract and reflect in the glass.
if you cut the side pennel for the vent, you can use the piece that you cut for on top of the fan as a grill
Add some hard line water hoses (painted to match) with 90 degree turns to give it some pipes on the outside, maybe even along the path of your exploded hole. Appears to need some sort of vertical line on that panel, like another thin plastic panel or the line mentioned. Looking forward to more!
I am really liking this case so far. I didn't realize how much I missed these videos. I'm genuinely excited to see the other videos of this build. On a side note: During the pandemic, I may have went overboard on how many tech channels I was watching, and got burned out this summer. Have started just watching a few channels. Combine that with your daily videos last month and this custom build, I am enjoying getting back into it again.
Having the power and reset as greeble on the outside might be really cool so the power button blends in with the rest of the outside
Man, I love videos like this. The creativity combined with what really are just super accessible materials and techniques, watching it come together and evolve as you work.
Man love these builds!!! Makes me excited when I have a space to do something like this!
Can't wait to see the end result!!!
If you wanted to do some pipes running around it, the straws from juice boxes would make nice small pipes running here or there(painted of course), you could even have one melted at end and have it going past the whole you made in this video, the build is looking sweet, can not wait to see it finished.
I think the crooked panel adds to it personally. Think of it like the explosion warping the "body" of this Rebel vehicle/dice, etc. Think like when a panel take a blast of head, then quickly cools.. as would be the case in space.
Looking forward to seeing this complete. Very awesome build and thanks for the giveaways.
@Fytylm Paulsen That was just a photo from google. The one that I am restoring looks no where that good.
For the battle damaged hole stick with the pcb behind, but position it so a capacitor is in the center of the hole, pint the capacitor to look brand new bright color, and the rest of the pcb charred and black. It tells a story that the ship has hit, something defective blew up and they just haphazardly switched a part out.
Love seeing these case mods! I'm in no way at all artistic enough to try - amazing to see it all come together.
try anyways :D
jay has a lot of experience with these things so you probably wont do as good as he does
but its a lot of fun and if you use your head im sure you will end up with something you can be proud of
10:35 Have the PCB and then have the lighting shining out. You could add additional lighting so that it can spill out and around the PCB if necessary.
Mod is starting to look good Jay keep up the good work!
This is coming along nicely. Any time you do a Case Mod, I'm always interested to see how it goes and what you come up with. I admit, I was looking forward to seeing the Red Dead and Engine Block builds pan out, but after explaining the reason they were scrapped in one of your recent videos, I understand why they came to fruition. Keep it up, Team Jay!
Definitely not bored with the mod videos. Idk why the engagement was low on this vid but it was definitely good!
The Redux add right after the Gamers Nexus review is so fitting. Well played.
Looks sick. One thought maybe you could put cooling pipes that are exposed coming out of blast hole or busted wires like something was leaking arching of wires. Maybe even a very tiny smoke machine with smoke coming out of pipes like it overheated. Like it alot
It's looking freakin' sweet already; the chard styrene looked a little better before it was painted. Hacking a pcb & sticking it to the back of the hole would look amazing.
always love the sound track phil always has in the back
Maybe run some 120 grit sand paper over the waterblock part to allow a bit of the shiny chrome metal to come through the primer. Also you should airbrush the burnt look around the damage again. That really adds to the effect.
3:41 Jay finally got enough of noise from the neighbors and decided to be the noisy one lol
Jayz's Imagination and Creativity is truly a sight to behold
I know you probably wont read this, but my opinion is that leaving the blast hole open to see the rgb and internals would be better than just a pcb as the glow out of the hole would have a great effect, especially if you went red/orange republic colours! Loving the build and loved the dedication to Jaytober thank you so much for all your time and efforts!
Wow this is awesome. I can really see the classic Rebel Alliance style of X-Wing or any ship coming to life! Jay has such a great imaginative and skillful way of putting these blaster damage Star Wars cases together. Remember Jay throw some orange or maybe red in there like Luke's X-Wing had and have all those weird mechanical lines and gears where they need to be. I know you will make it look really good. Are you thinking of making that blaster mark shine with an orange/red RGB to show its molten hot or burning? Oh man I can just see this coming together so good. Can't wait to see the finished product!
that looks GREAT!! But I think it still needs more greeble on the top of that panel, and the bottom right - like it needs some tubes/fuels line, maybe some kind of cylindrical part attached to one of those areas..... but even if you kept it like that, the explosion effect turned out EXCELLENT!! - I HAVE FAITH IN THE JAY SIDE OF THE FORCE!!!! :D
i like the pcb behind the damaged area seems like you could make it look pretty real damage wise
These mods are the reason why I subscribed to you guys. As an architect who sucks at model making (but still has to do it), I enjoy a lot of watching this builds/mods :D
that jay still at 8:47 killed me thanks phil
I have a suggestion for the hole in the side panel. You could use a tinted piece of glass with the cpu/gpu components etched into it. That way when the pc is off you see the pcb design, but when powered on, the glow from the internal components shine through.
Jays distressing work is really top notch. I really dug the ingenuity, pc is starting to come together
Man I love these kind of vids, you can see in Jay's eyes that he's in his element.
This is going to be one of the coolest looking cases ever built. I love it!!
Line the area around the hole with red RGB lights (inside of course).
It would be cool if there was some component on the inside that looked like the thing that exploded and caused the dmg. Maybe like a glass tube or something you could hide an LED inside to give it a bit of a glow?
When Jay held the two outside vent covers on at the end of the video, it reminded me of a power droid
If you can't fit much of a pcb, you could get a chunk of some colour coded wires, chop the ends off, burn a bit of the coating and leave it dangling just within view to show there was something crucial there that's now jerry rigged out.
on the sides of the hole, have some "sparks" flashing. Mini LEDs (blues and orange). Some burnt wires, tubing exposed. For an Easter Egg, add a tiny R2D2 droid repairing the damage.
If you've never tried it milliput or green stuff is great for sculpting some of those fine details you weren't 100% on. It's gonna look sweet though.
Another thought for the exploded hole. Put a piece of blown out tubing behind it, kind of like an exploded fuel line. A piece of copper pipe that split open during a freeze is a perfect example.
Jay - one thing I learned a lot from adam savage and his kit bashing is stacking and layering. Love the way it looks so far.
This is what I imagined when they used to say "Don't touch the power button, you'll blow up the PC!"
That's coming along awesome! Excited to see it finished!
Absolutely love the design so far!
I really like this build, im a huge starwars fan so its always exciting to see build themed around it.
Run a tube inside with fluorescent coolant behind that rip and mount a violet LED nearby. Really give it some sci-fi bling.
Nzxt: Our cases don't catch fire anymore.
Jay: And I took that personally.
*iFixit explosions*
I doubt you'll see this by now, now that it has been 8 days since the video came out, but a good idea for if you have the broken GPU part inside of the hole would be to have some wires come out of the hole where the 8-pin plugs are. I think that would add to it big time.
as someone who binge watched Star Wars Rebels recently the amount of refurbished ships in the Rebel Fleet is outstanding
This is coming along great! I'm LOLing at the use of the torch to form the styrene while the heat gun is sitting idle on the bench! 😂
I only wish I had the budget to customize one to that degree! Looking great so far and I can see where it's going too!
You should put some clear plastic and some small LED lights in the damaged hole to make it look like electrical sparks or maybe the look of emergency repairs in progress, for an extra effect.
It might be cool if you painted the inside of the panel white, then do an rgb strip behind it where you can’t see it so it glows more. Then set it up to glow bright orange or red as the computer temp goes up and down, look like it actually burning inside.
Looks awesome so far! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Keep these coming! It's fun to watch your process and learn along the way.
Yeah, a projectile entry point on the opposite panel (smooth dented inward) and of course flickering yellow and orange leds.
i think the dent above the hole really makes it. gives it a scrap reused look.
Loving this mod Jay! For the cables, you could do as you said, coming out the back of the case and sleaving them as if they were fuel (red for the power suply) and like comms and sytems (black or blue for the peripherals). Keep up the good work!
Love it! I can't wait to see the full vision
I like the idea of sticking a damaged PCD behind the blast hole than putting in a blue LED to flash and make it look like something is arching
03:19 thanks Jay, for my new text message alert! 😂
I really like the idea of taking part of a broken PCB from a card and putting it behind that hole. maybe put some red lights in front of the PCB so that it lights up nice, if you paint the PCB so it looks burned that'd be awesome too. (If you do burn a PCB do so outside with masks, that's likely crazy toxic).
i really like the idea of using that for the front panel, it wouldn't really impact performance anyway since it was glass originally anyway
This is the content why I follow jayztwocent. Please make this build custom Waterloop!
These videos are so fun to watch, the J2C crew is great!
3:32 - That's actually how the imperial and metric systems work together in harmony :)
jay what you could do is like have blueprint sketch design around the panels that include info like screw types, dimensions, material written in sharpie.
Holy crap that flex of the poor 9/64ths bit with Jay leaning on it, that's one bendy bit!
I would kill to have a custom Star Wars computer case! Love these mod videos. I wish I had the creativity and tools for this.
As a tradesman and creator, I appreciate watching you come up with the ideas. Very cool how you put things together. Thanks
That smoke around that hole looked great, keep it!!
Keep this content rolling, it's great on my morning computer
Idea for the hole: Cut some pcb and also attach some cut/broken wires sticking out a bit. Then for the full effect, have a hidden led source inside that is mapped to give a kind of spark-like effect so that from the outside it looks like the hole was blown open recently and the electronics inside are fried with sparks and stuff coming out and the rest of the system is barely hanging on.
(for full effect a mini smoke generator could be installed but that might be too cramped/too much work).
