I think you'll find the TJ compatible with your motorcycle passions. Every TJ has it's own personality, and if you stick with it you'll learn to love it no matter how many times you try to stick an ASE socket on a metric nut or bolt, or visa-versa. No matter how many times you break a torx bit off in a bolt that should have been a hex head to begin with. No matter how many times you get mud in your eye while working underneath it. I'm on my second TJ and can't imagine driving anything else.
2000 Jeep Wrangler here, also from the mid atlantic. Check for rust scale between the skid plate and frame. That could be an indication of frame rot. Also, check the frame on the curve underneath the control arm brackets. Dirt and grime love to live there (cuz they can't get out) and rot the frame from the inside out. Poke with a flat screwdriver. This applies to the front and rear. Check the torsion boxes on the body. They like to rot, and pick up the carpet and check the floor pans. Essentially, these things like to rust everywhere. i'd bet a dollar to a dozen donuts the front fenders are shot under the diamond plate patches. Not the end of the world, but just another thing to fix. You can also just stick your finger through the holes in the side of the frame and feel around for rust scale inside....another good indicator of whether or not rust has taken hold. The 4.0 is pretty bulletproof. They do like to leak, but that's not the end of the world. Probably the most important thing is to take that damn aftermarket grill off. Have fun!
I daily drive my 2001 Jeep tj 4.0 5 speed manual, 4.5 inch lift on 33s.. it has 209,400 miles and still runs like a beast! Take care of her and she’ll take care of you 👍🏼 I ride a Harley and yeah I love the combo 😎
The 4.0 is a pretty bullet proof engine. 180000 miles not bad for that power plant. Get rid of the angry grill. Takes away from the Jeep. A 33" tire would be good for Off-road. The tire really depends what you want to use the jeep for.
I have a 2000 TJ Sahara. I've had it for about 22 yrs. Just part of the family now. I live in the Southwest Texas so my Jeep is setup for Rock crawling.
Fellow TJ owner and Philly resident…welcome to Jeep life! Looks like that frame was patched up and looking at the video it doesn’t look like it was done professionally. I’d have that checked out before you dump any money into it. Good luck and enjoy!
I’ve got a 99 tj wrangler same power plant. These jeeps are the best they ever made. Easy and cheap to work on. Fun to drive around and fairly sturdy. Good purchase…great shape
Frame looks amazing, looks like you got a great deal, I own 2 TJ right now. The handling are insane on jeeps, I've owned a lot of different models, hell my son's middle name is Jeep
There are Jeeps people and not Jeep people. They drive and ride a lot like a really fast farm tractor, not a luxury car. I enjoy them for short runs, and live in a rural area, so 4wd is a nice thing. All this being said, I don’t want to go driving 500-800 miles in a day in my Jeep.
Got my own 2001 TJ a few months ago and I’ll say I love it. Guy I got mine from gave me a hard, soft, and safari top with half mesh doors. Mines and automatics since I don’t know how to drive stick and last time I check it had 160,000 miles and runs amazing.
Frame has been patched 4 liter is a great engine. Plenty of torque Owned a 2002 for 20 years. Left me stranded one time with a leaking rear brake cylinder
1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara TJ owner, #JeepWave 🌊 here for the sprinkles 😎. Yep. More tj vids please for the new subs #OllllllllO. #JeepThings. I hope you fall in love with yours, they do take some getting used to, I started laughing when you said that about loose steering, eventually it’s all good. They all drive just a bit differently depending on how they’ve been built, handled, mishandled etc. you find your happy medium fairly quickly.
Nice purchase- Great all around. Check out my TJ build for my Dad on my channel jeepNdirt titled (Everyday TJ, avoiding high cost of JL). Keep things simple and it's be very capable and reliable. Good job on the purchase. I've been a jeeper and motorcyclist all my life and had to give up bikes for a little condition called Roemheld Syndrome and now just focused on jeeps and encouraging folks to get out there and explore, and more specifically pushing the point that you don't need a super built jeep to get out there and enjoy. Note: you mentioned your miles and steering. I can almost guarantee that it's just the worn stock bushings in your control arms, track bar, and steering. We kept things very simple in my dad's build as noted above and that jeep (if you watch my video) handles like a little sports car on the road, then when we pull the disconnects it flexes very nice off road. He's not looking to be a rock crawler, just wants to get off road on forest service roads and basic water crossings.

2001 TJ here 231,000 miles . Rebuilt transmission original 4.0 running srtong as ever! Great purchase. Enjoy.
Right on! Might be doing a long road trip in mine soon

AGREE 100% on that grill! Loose that thing. Customization options are limitless, but the angry grill is for folks following The Joneses….
Awesome, I've got a Sportster and a 2000 TJ in the garage. both very addicting hobbies. You'll love the Jeep.
There's definitely been frame patch repair done. Not that it matters, good luck with the new hobby!
Right on! Maybe have some questions for you in the future!

The TJ is the only model vehicle I have owned more than 1 of, I think that says something about these Jeeps

Good to know. Been solid so far
FYI the frame is shot and has been repaired with the steel kit that is welded on

Every Jeep is like a woman, each one is moody in a different way 😂
Right on! Just took it on a pretty long road trip. Held up fine
@@TheMotoJawn The 4.0 is the way to go, they don't have much power but they are a tank... Fun to off road
My 02 frame rusted out, and I just went and bought a 98 about a month ago, great shape for a Midwest Jeep that old

Love me an old jeep!
Come take it for a spin!
Jeep, , Motorcycle, and Aircooled VW people seem to travel in the same circles.
Seems so
@@TheMotoJawn You hear that? Next purchase has to be a van or beetle. OR, go crazy and get you a Porsche 914 ;)
How much did you pay
My dream car❤
