It's actually casually called flecktarn, the one for southeurope (KFOR) is Tropentarn, and the desert version is also referred to as Wüstentarn or Tropentarn. The official names are Five Color Camouflage Print (Fünffarbtarndruck) for the Woodland version, and Dreifarbtarndruck, Three Color camouflage print, the desert version.
One issue of camo patterns is iterance. This is when micro patterns repeat too much and create a repeating shape that makes the macro pattern quite distinguishable and thus let the brain discover it easily
Black is nessesary in Camopatterns. There is no true Black in Nature, but is is needed to break up the Silluette, imitate shadows and another thing i noticed while testing many patterns... If in full Sunlight, the most patterns wich have no black in it, like Pencott, Multicam etc. shines too much and looks from a distance, like a bright even surface.
What is your expertise on the different camouflage patterns and the compare & contrast of micro vs macro? I do agree about the colors being more vibrant on goretex. Goretex does have 2 very bad drawbacks though, 1) it is extremely noisy. 2) it glows up under night vision goggles. Which is very very bad. Good comparison though.
I'd rank DPM better than US M81 Woodland, but Flecktan nailed the micro/macro balance. I've got some Finnish M05 camo and it appears to use the same theory of breaking up the macro blobs with micro scattering, really effective.
There is a Polish camo called Wz.68 mora. It's the worst camo ever made imo. It has only very very small and simple micro pattern (dark gray stripes on light grey background), no macro pattern so you don't see a pattern from 3 meters and the colors are not natural (dark and light grey). It was so awful, that Polish soldiers used to say that it would hide the wearer only in the burning concrete factory. Lots of Polish MC1 mask bags are in this camo.
What I’ve read about DPM is that it was designed to hide a soldiers shape and their kit at range so that could be why it’s not as effective as flektarn at close range
Great vid. I began paying attention to the Micro/Macro Camo idea in the early 80s. A unique Macro camo is the Belgian Congo “brushstroke” patterns of the ‘50/60s. Anyway, I admire the USMC “marpat”, but for economy have purchased Flecktarn. Funny how the WW2 German camo patterns became Digitalized.
Nice explanation it certainly will help many people understand that camouflage is not only about wearing a pattern, but also understanding hos to properly use camouflage. One thing i want to say, that well I'm definitely not fan of flecktarn pattern, mainly becouse of its limited range of use and very low prizes of clothing in Poland, which makes many people wearing it unapropriately, however it would be nice if you would make some material about polish wz 93 "pantera" pattern, which may be even more effective in certain places than flecktarn, becouse of lack of reddish-brown colour and having more of contrast shades of olive, green, brown and black (it however depends of the manufacturer ). Well obviously it is a very repeatitive (i hope it is written like that) pattern, and it mostly contains macro pattern, hovever it blends perfectly in dark forests, thats most propably the reason why it was chosen by polish military in early 90's instead of recolorized flectarn (callsign "łąka"). Nevertheless nice video, and grettings from wz.93 maniac
Weaponsandstuff93 It has interesing design, and it is damn pretty effective in a temperate forest, i say it from my experience. And talking about camos, I think that many camos which have distruptive patterns are not effective becouse of its bad contrast and colours, especially when we are talking about woodland camos, which should be made (in my humble opinion) with more contrasting colours f.eg. ukrainian ttsko pattern. However thanks for reply! Have a nice day!
A little off topic, but I noticed the link to your twitter in your channel description links to your old one that doesn't have any content on it. Just thought you'd want to update that.
I have an old British sr6 gas mask and it has a small problem. When I breathe out I think the exhale valve is jammed because the air comes out of small holes around the exhale valve bit. I covered the holes up and No air left the mask! Can I unscrew anything to have a look? What would you recommend?
Weaponsandstuff93 if I put it on and cover up the inlet it seals fine no air leaks in. It's just when I breathe out I feel it coming out of holes in the mask. Do you know where I can get spares and how to take it apart?
MARPAT is a quite good camo, especialy works well in central europe during summer. But need to note that american digital patternes originated from canadian CADPAT which is a great camo, but you can only get crappy copies, getting original one is almost impolsible unfortunetly.

The pencott family of patterns do a vey good job at combining macro and micro patterns.

You pronounce German words really good ;)
Cheers
Interesting video and Learned something new today thanks keep up the good work
Thanks

As I mentioned in the video, DPM is a macro pattern camouflage.

There are also some lizard camos from the 60s that combine the two quite well.

Cool yeah another pattern I really like is Russian SS Leto/Partisan which is basically recoloured German WW2 Oakleaf pattern.
Weaponsandstuff93 It has interesing design, and it is damn pretty effective in a temperate forest, i say it from my experience. You should be *Invisible*
Flektarn seems to be your go too
I'd say Soviet SS Leto wins out

It's correct in the video description.
what do you think about the canadian CUEPAT camo?
Yea Cadpat is great
no CUEPAT it's an urban camo
canadian urban enviroment camo?
Yeah that one
it would be good to see a test on that...
Does this apply to vehicle/tank camouflage also ?? . Love the content bro!
Yes but most vehicles use macropatterns
Weaponsandstuff93 thanks for the reply and info good sir 👍
What's your favorite camo pattern?
Probably Flecktarn.
I have an old British sr6 gas mask and it has a small problem. When I breathe out I think the exhale valve is jammed because the air comes out of small holes around the exhale valve bit. I covered the holes up and No air left the mask! Can I unscrew anything to have a look? What would you recommend?
Not much you can do without getting spare parts really. Sounds like it's working fine though unless air leaks in through those same holes.
Weaponsandstuff93 if I put it on and cover up the inlet it seals fine no air leaks in. It's just when I breathe out I feel it coming out of holes in the mask. Do you know where I can get spares and how to take it apart?
Very British, all camo raincoats xD
You should have camo on all gear not just some of it
Cool
Thanks
How about them ATACS, eh?
Only ever seen that working well in bullshots.
Seems to have a good micro pattern but almost no macro pattern.
unless you mean ATACS iX wich has both
How about american digital camo?
MARPAT? that's good, UCP is terrible.
+Weaponsandstuff93
Unfortunately must agree, it works well in dry shrub but that's about it. Luckily in 2019 it'll be replaced.
MARPAT is a quite good camo, especialy works well in central europe during summer. But need to note that american digital patternes originated from canadian CADPAT which is a great camo, but you can only get crappy copies, getting original one is almost impolsible unfortunetly.
It's actually illegal to get original CADPAT...
It's a variant of Multicam and you have to have very - and I mean VERY - well trained eye to pick one from the other...
What about digital cammo?
A combination of micro and macro pattern.
Why not just use hunting camo?
Hunting camo normally doesn't have any IRR properties, so you glow under night vision, most Hunting camo is very specific as well.
Weaponsandstuff93 ah ok, thank you my bug out kit was using hunting cam
Becuse mossy oak real tree etc hunting camo is exspinve and sucks
why does every video you upload have a huge watermark on it ?
Because people steal the videos
Weaponsandstuff93 fbm
i have a perfect color match to original flektarn gore tex
As in the flecktarn clothes were all printed by the same factory?
Or your local area is the exact colour palette where flecktarn works really well?
