Great video mate, I have never owned a scrim net, but looks great for what they are made for. I got worried for a second when you did the double scrim net bit, i thought it was going to be the crossover video, made me tense up for a second waiting for the feedback sound, hahaha
Neat video, brings back memories! Used ordinary green British army scrim for everything, from using it as a towel, as a scarf, as a bandana headband, covering the slit openings of dugouts, covering up webbing, wrapping around your rifle as camo, wrapping around binoculars and using it as padding in pouches to stop rattling. Great stuff, scrim. Love it. Just a question, what is that Chinese scrim made of as it looks like nylon.
Camo net they are called. The official Nato camo nets could be linked togethers with a pull cord. Just yank the cord and the 2 nets became separated. it worked with large and small rings on the side of the nets. Put the small ring into a large ring, put in a peg from the pull cord and they are joined. One side was a summer version with dark green, lime green and black. The winter version was dark green, brown and black. 2 more things to remember when camoflaging a vehicle: 1. Put skirts on all sides of the vehicle, so no soil was visible. We used tan burlap. 2. Cover the windows to prevent sunlight reflection on the windows. It worked very well, the enemy did not see the vehicle and if they did; "What was under the nets?". It is a truck or a tank?
I use one for wildlife photography. Fantastic bit of kit. Wear it as a scarf. Wear it over your head. Hide your camera. Use it as a towel. It could be used as a sling or tourniquet if you needed it. Anyone whose spends time outdoors should have one.
Picked one up a month ago in dark woodland camo. Made in Italy, new surplus-&acrylic,. I mainly use it as a scarf.,I have wool, and a smegah as well .each has its advantages. Is light, packable& breathesi in warm climates, and bunched up as a scarf, surprisingly warm during our SoCal winter cold snap. Next camp trip will check hide capabilities, but for now I like it .
Great video about a very underrated and often overlooked bit of kit! I remember having fun with scrim out on the beacons, although I also remembering wishing they were waterproof, since it is so bloody wet out there, and rains all-the-bloody-time! ;-) Another advantage of them is that they completely obscure the features of the face, which is something else we humans are hard-wired to recognise easily. Quick, cheap, simple and effective. They also make pretty good scarves and can be bundled up to provide padding, makeshift pillows etc. :-)
sorry to comment off topic, but what would be the most ideal method for displaying masks? what would do the least damaging to the material in the long term? cheers
display heads should work pretty well but can be expensive, look for ones made of materials that won't react with the mask, glass ones are probably the safest in this respect, with bare polystyrene ones being the worst. Since i'm cheap I used polystyrene heads fully covered with packing paper. There's a chance that the masks may deform over time with this method though so keep that in mind. I need to use heads since I display my masks with helmets, but if you just want to display masks on their own then just loosely fill the inner part with balls of packing paper to prop them up and that's all you really need to do. Sunlight is also bad for masks, keep them out of it.
As previously stated, it's not that we don't know what a scrim net is, it's that we call it by a different name, Sniper Veil, and while not in common use, there are plenty of folks here who know how and do use them fairly extensively, as they are indeed, quite handy for many of the reasons you list, as well as others. They're also quite good when vegetation is added, like a ghillie suit.
FS Wolf RL Camo Netting is slightly different when refered here in the UK. It Usually is a net which has leaf shapes over it that isn't painted to the net, but it's actually like a flailing leaf on a net. Easiest way I can really describe it. Many Infantry have been know to wrap it around their weaponry to make it more camoflaged.
True that, though 3d leaves are very situational. Best and most versatile camouflage I've got is a cape made of three worn out DPM scrims with lots and lots of holes for fixing local foliage like moss or spruce saplings. Damn near perfect!
I love scrims. I use them all the time over my camo kit, to change how the camo pattern underneath looks. I'm afraid that type of camo scrim you have there is the absolute worst i've tried. It's too dense to allow and light to pass through it, so you lose the 3D effect that the scrim can give. It's way too shiny. and the actual pattern doesn't fit in any of my environments. It stands out like a painted door. The large hole type is way better. My personal favourite is the vegetato pattern. It looks dirty, and blends in many different backgrounds. Flecktarn, and dpm patterns are also very versatile. But again, get the type with large loose holes for maximum effect. The only drawback with them, is that they have a tendency to get hung up on branches, if you're moving through dense terrain.
Its scrim mesh. Viper Concealment Vests are made using scrim mesh & attaching scrim straps all over it for contributing heavier vegetation. Its good for scarfs to.
Here in the states we call them Sniper Veils, They’re somewhat common but not too common compared to other forms of camouflage.

Cheers, yeah scrim is very useful, someone else was listing lots of actual uses they have, but most of it involves making things harder to see.

Not totally sure, packet didn't have much English on it so I would guess nylon or similar.
The u.s. military has larger tarp sized nets similar but with bigger holes used for camouflaging trucks tanks etc
Cool
And to camo, positions from air recon.
Basically stop, set them over your vehicle or position (you can make them tent style).
Step 3 profit

Yeah lots of uses for them, I really like them because they are cheap as well.
I like the way he says hello with his British accent and every video
Americans will listen to a Brit read the IRC tax code since we love that accent.
Superb video. Thank you for preparing, posting and sharing your thoughts on scrim net.
6.03 major j horror vibes XD. Good video buddy, informative! Cheers!
08:55 Instead of a scrim net, you can also use a poncho to break up the shape of the man.
Could you provide me with a link to the website you bought these from I need one of these in German camouflage
My sleep paralysis daemon:

I wonder when you will start making videos about ghillie suits. It's one of the few camuflage things that you haven't talked about.
As I've said, I have no interest in getting one, scrim netting over camo works just as well if not better.
Weaponsandstuff93 I think of getting a cheap one, but mostly for airsoft, as I play as sniper.
I read Scrim Nests and I was utterly confused
Yeah a net not a nest.
*Nøkk intensifies*
Literally the only reason i searched up scrim nets 😂😂
I like using scrim nets on my M1 Helmet and M17 Stahlhelm when I airsoft. Cool vid.
Where can you get that camouflage top that you are wearing. Looks super cool and I like that pattern
The Control 103 the pattern is called alpenflage
Thank you dude
Yup Swiss Alplenflage, it's since been replaced by a more generic camo.
Hmm I didnt know that but thats cool. Thanks
I buy the sheet of camo mesh from Walmart and make 3-4 sniper veils (scrim net)
Cool
I only see a floating head and hands that appears and disappears in this video, Is this just happening to me or does everyone see this too!
*the thumbnail*
I bought a couple of these. Can't find them now.
I may have said this before but I'm making a scrim net /ghillie suit hybrid.
Cool, should work well.

Camo face paint works really well
Yeah
That's what I was going to say. Put on face paint and then see the effectiveness of the veil.
I would love to buy a huge roll of this for my boat and camping stuff... But I can’t find a supplier anywhere.

Crytek Gaming Thank you for pointing that out to me
FS Wolf RL or a siper valve
Scrimnets ftw! With iron wire, scrim and some creativity you can make anything disappear!
Especially the ones that have the sort of 3D leaf stuff on them as well.
True that, though 3d leaves are very situational. Best and most versatile camouflage I've got is a cape made of three worn out DPM scrims with lots and lots of holes for fixing local foliage like moss or spruce saplings. Damn near perfect!

exactly why im here
What's the camo shirt you are wearing? (Name/pattern)
The brownish-red mix looks great.
Swiss Alpenflage
I imagine you could tuck blades of grass and other plant material through the weaving to break up your shape even more
Yeah grass, leaves and twigs can be put in like with helmet covers.
nice map of Vvardenfell my man. also nice video, very informative thanks.
I have only ever seen combat shirts or Bergen's sold in marpat here and it's annoying because I want trousers but there's none
That's a shame
what jacket are you wearing in this video?
Rhodesians never die
Also it’s swis alpanflage
Yeah Swiss Alpenflage.
Swiss uniform. Where did you get it?
eBay
For how much?
A full suit with a rucksack will tun you about $20 from major surplus
Whats your opinion on bullet proof masks?
Never tried one
Where'd you buy the second one from?
eBay
Interestingly, scrim net is great for camouflaging the visible spectrum but terrible at near infrared.
this was made on my birthday lol
are life straws nbc rated filters
No idea, quite a few people use other straws with masks.
Its scrim mesh. Viper Concealment Vests are made using scrim mesh & attaching scrim straps all over it for contributing heavier vegetation.
Its good for scarfs to.
I got a flecktarn scrim net for 12€.
Cool but scrim nets can normally be bought for like £2.
Ok
良いね👍
Fuggin's wheat.
Cheers
I use mine for comfort, face mask and emergency carriage.
The Israeli Defense Force uses a floppy scrim net helmet cover, to break up the human shape. The IDF soldiers call it the Clowns Hat (Miznafet).
Us special forces use them
morrowind map on the back!
I’ve always called them camo nets while I was in the Army
