What if Africa was Never Colonized? (Alternative History)

- From the 16 to late 1900s Africa was taken from a mostly free continent filled with its own peoples and states to being almost completely owned by foreign nations in Europe. This begs the question, what if it hadn't been? What if Africa was never colonized?

The question is, if these African empires could have modernized their countries the same way, Japan modernized, after the USA forced it to open their harbors to foreign trade. Many factors would come to play.
No japan already had a civil war over this. Most will athempt. But there economies are even more agrarian then china and the empires are to diverse. States like the ashanti and zulu stand a better change. They only need to deal with feudalistic nobles. A empire like mali of ethiopia will face mass secessionist movements. Western influewence ruining the youth like the chinese boxer rebelions.
Ethiopia was japanizing in every sense of the word before ww2 they even got a big deal with japan but it didnt solidify because italy invaded them
It’s impossible for Africa to modernise that quick they were too unstable even before the Europeans arrived
This is interesting tho I disagree heavily it’s far far more likely that even if they aren’t able to carve the whole continent up The Europeans would still dominate the African countries economically.
and likely still have some small settler colonies tattered about mainly around the coastline just not many major colonies with the exceptions of Algeria for France and South Africa and maybe Egypt for Britain.
Also I’m sorry but the bit where you said Africa could form huge countries and modernise fast and become the new powers of the world is the most delusional thing I’ve ever heard.
Africa even before Europe arrived was in an abysmal state there were so many different ethnic tribes that its basically impossible for them to form huge states let alone modernised ones say if they do form large states it would likely have 10 times more instability than Austria Hungary.
If anything it’s far more likely the continent would continue infighting while European companies and corporations dominate them economically.
Also Britain would still have its dominions and Asian colonies as well as control over some of Africa in Egypt and South Africa and France would still have Algeria and Indochina.
It’s also likely that in This timeline would perhaps lead to the Europeans having a much higher interest in carving up China when the Quing Dynasty starts to fall apart to compensate for not getting Africa.
100% agree. africa did not convert to christianity after being colonised, many peoples converted BEFORE. the kingdom of the congo is the most notorious african christian conversion other than maybe ethiopia. this was before colonisation entirely! there 100% would have been large christian communities in africa outside of ethiopia. many kingdoms wouldn’t stick with their native religion as islam and christianity tend to dominate any region they interact with due to sociological reasoning
If Africa was never colonized, there's a decent chance that Egypt would've probably taken the Ottomans during the 1839 war. Just me, though.
Sorry, but Congo was a Catholic Christian country before the colonization
I actually did not know that! Thank you for bringing that up!

Thanks,
I'm Brazilian and know about a few of Portuguese history and influence, and it was a pleasure to help
(Sorry for my eventual bad english)
@@ThatAnnoyingAmericanthis scenario needs a remake there’s too many inaccuracies to it like the part you said “Africa would replace Europes importance and form huge modernised countries”. Lmao 🤣 are you mad just one look at how much the various tribes of different ethnic groups hate each other makes Austria Hungary look like a stable country.
Also no your absolutely wrong the Europeans wouldn’t entirely leave Africa they just wouldn’t have any major colonies apart from Algeria and possibly Madagascar for France and South Africa plus maybe Egypt for Britain as They need to get to the far east. The Europeans would all still set up smaller colonies around the coast and still completely dominate the African continent Economically.
Also Britain and France wouldn’t loose their colonies at all if anything it means they probably could hold onto them for far far longer because they can consolidate their control over their current colonies without being over stretched.
It could also lead to Britain pushing to form an Imperial Federation much earlier due to them having far less areas for the settlers to go meaning Canada, Australia and South Africa would all have slightly higher Anglo Populations living in them which would lead Britains to want to federalise earlier due to them not controlling nearly as much as they did in our timeline. France could very possibly do something similar because they too aren’t nearly as over stretched across the continent as they are in our timeline.
I am not saying the video is bad just saying it’s very inaccurate in many places and could use a little improvements.
If Ethiopia industrialized
Most african colonies where net losses for the colonisers. So if there is just a trent started of protectorates and allies full colinzation isnt needed for the resources.
I wonder how African empires and kingdoms would have developed differently if the Tsetse fly went extinct or never existed.
How would things be different had the Portuguese lost in Congo but the British still won against the Ashanti and the Zulu?
awesome video!!
What if Russia won the crimean war
I actually really like that scenario. I already know what my next video is gonna be (hint hint, it has to do with Spain) but I might just do this one for the next!

What if russia never colonized Alaska?
Thank you for the suggestion but I don't think it's a long enough scenario to make into a video. I can sum it up for you in this comment however. Basically all that would occur is Britain incorporating Alaska as apart of Canada. Long term effects would be a richer Canada with the oil of Alaska, and a slightly weaker U.S.A.
@@ThatAnnoyingAmerican how would russia change?
@@helpiamstuckonthismanshead3385 Most likely not very much. Perhaps they'd be slightly better off. Russia wasn't able to capitalize off of the resources in Alaska because they didn't really know about them. A Russia that didn't colonize Alaska most likely would end up just like the Russia of our timeline.
@@ThatAnnoyingAmerican ok
But again thanks for the suggestion! I hope my answer was satisfactory!
If Africa was never colonised they would have been much worse off today. As massive investment went into most African countries following the colonisation. That African countries struggle with industrialisation is because the cultures of the people that live in Africa does is not very compatible with industrial modern societies.
That is absolutely false, you need to re-do history.
@@JayCasinoOfficial So what is false and why?? There is two African countries that was never colonised and they are probably the worst today in terms of how poor and under developed they are.
@@truxton1000 you do know that alot of European technology was based off knowledge they received from Africa right? Written language, math , etc? Yeah dude you really need to educate yourself on African history
