  • In this episode we chat about power bands of cars for street vs track, what makes them fun, what makes them boring, what makes them useful, what makes them terrible. We talk about power band delivery, average torque over time, power under the curve, all kinds of fun stuff, so buckle up for a chat with Aaron Losey on the Lone Star Drift Channel. And of course this is always going to become about LS1 VS SR20DET and 2JZ-GTE and we even throw in the old 350Z VQ35DE lol.

    I'm super happy to see everyone thanking Aaron for everything he teaches. He is the reason I bought my 08 g35 sedan to drift build and has taught me basically everything ik about making the smart choices when *trying* to get into drifting

    Aaron, thanks a million for all you do and share with us. Your advice is always sound and has enabled me to purchase the right drift car for me personally and know what I was getting into before my purchase. You have saved me a ton of time and money and headaches. Thank you as always for all you do, it is very much appreciated! 😁

    Absolutely lovely breakdown for drift specific power goals. Sorta confirmed my goal to turbo a v6 rather than go v8, I'm seeking maximum fun and is why i always end up with turbo stuff.

    I agree with most of this but with a proper sized turbo you can make a very large power ban. My jz hits 27psi at 36-3800rpm and pulls to 8200rpm makes 750whp. You might remember it from drift week 4 the orange s13 with the blue wheels.

    Good video! I think you should cover what the advanced engine management can do with torque mapping to get a peaky curve to be drivable.

      @p9raceway759 at the moment, just my Honda Accord for work. I have a truck for truck stuff too. I've been putting money away and hopefully after tax season, I'll buy a 350z. Done a lot for research and it seems the best vehicle for the type of budget I'll be working with.

      @p9raceway759 i would rather not street drift. Too dangerous for myself and other drivers. Stay to the tracks, much safer that way

    If someone is still on the ropes about what setup to do, buy a sim rig for assetto and figure out what you like driving style wise and go from there. Aasbo won fd with a 4banger with one of the best teams in the world, we are not them, but most are also not in FD. 99% of the people viewing this will never be at that kinda level of comp and should understand that before spending anything. i've seen local comps won by almost stock volvos, at a certain level it doesnt really matter until its an event the ex fd drivers swam to.

    One power band that was missed would be diesel, id love to set aaron up with a car and see what he thinks, the curve would look like a LS but more exciting

    • @LoneStarDrift
      @LoneStarDrift  15 днів тому

      Oddly enough most diesel power bands don't work for drifting because they are INCREDIBLY tiny. Take a Cummins, which we think of as having this huge power band and making power super early. If it makes power at 1600 RPM but only goes to 3000 RPM at redline, or whatever it is, you have a 1500 rpm power band. The gearing has to be SUPER long to make that work, and it gets to be super wacky. Where an LS1 might make power from 2500-7000 and have multiple times the power band size.
