Saying "if you have to ask how much you can't afford it" is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. I've never known a truly wealthy person that didn't ask how much something was. Plus,it just a fishing reel so it's not like a Rolls Royce.

Question for you I have an older Abu Garcia 5000 probably 70's still in good shape was wanting to put bearings in. Have seen you put bearings in spool but this model the spool and shaft are connected.So would you put the bearings in the side cap where there are bushings.

Faster spin up spool speed, faster continues spool speed, better spool balance, longer casting distances, much less chance of nesting the reel due to line lift, much more control.......
I could see those characteristics being beneficial, however what puzzles me is how the line would be able to lay evenly on the retrieve without the line guide assembly. If there's nothing to control the line lay during the retrieve what keeps it from gathering more in one spot or another.

your thumb levels the line with practice probably even better than a levelwind
one can wind without them very well..it also takes some of the "drag" off the line when casting
