  • Cosy up and spend a comforting, yet enlightening, evening at home with Nigel and Elizabeth, as one of the nation’s favourite cooks tells the story of his life in the kitchen.
For this rare live appearance, Nigel shares his best recipes, top cooking tips and most evocative food memoires, from the first jam tart he made with his mum standing on a chair trying to reach the Aga, through to what he is cooking now. Nigel touches on how his cooking has changed over the years and recall the stories behind the recipes in his latest book - memories such as the first time he ate a baguette in Paris, his love of jewel-bright Japanese pickled radishes, and his initial slice of buttercream-topped chocolate cake. Delicious!
Along the way, Nigel also shares his cooking secrets - such as the best way to roast a chicken and the trick to smoky, smooth aubergine mash. Together, Nigel and Elizabeth will get to the heart and soul of cooking, as well as touching on Nigel’s experience as food columnist for The Observer for over twenty years and his award-winning memoir Toast, which is now a major BBC film starring Helena Bonham-Carter and was successfully adapted for stage.
Nigel Slater At Home with Elizabeth Day was originally broadcast on Thu 16 Dec 2021, via Fane Online.

Some revelations , some things like lateness , I consider to be an insult if I'm late or others are late . Marvellous interviewer . Subtle .

38:36-38:42: Agreed. I enjoy learning new skills and techniques. I don't prefer to watch someone anxiously run around a kitchen trying to beat a clock or contender😣
