LCAC Transports Hawaii Marines RIMPAC 2022

MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII (July 11, 2022) - Landing Craft, Air Cushions assigned to Assault Craft Unit 5, transport gear and Marines to the USS Essex to Pohakuloa training area on board Marine Corps Base Hawaii during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. I was assigned to ACU-4 1991-1992, deployed on the Wasp for the 1991 Med tour. The LCAC is great piece of machinery and a huge asset to the Navy.

Stopped in Yukon Oklahoma after being assigned to ACU 5 for a few years. Gave ACU 5 Swift Intruders ball caps to a couple boys where I was visiting. Once he was old enough one of the boys joined the Navy submarine service.

Fun fact LCAC operators consider themselves pilots. Which I guess is true since it’s barely flying/hovering over the water. They even wear flight suits lol
