  • Photosynthesis is a two-stage reaction: the light-dependent reaction (LDR) and light-independent reaction (LIR). LDR is the first stage of photosynthesis and it requires light. Light energy and water are used to create ATP and reduced NADP which are needed for the light-independent stage.
This occurs in four key stages:
    Photoionisation of chlorophyll
Production of ATP and reduced NADP
    Chemiosmosis
    Photolysis

hi miss, what do the electrons in photolysis actually get used for if it is the electrons in photoionisation which are used in the electron transfer chain?

they replace the electrons lost from photoionsation so the ETC can continue

Would electrons from the splitting of water not be used in PSII and passed down the electron chain a well?
