    The Sansa, Theon reunion was surprisingly emotional and awesome. I didn't expect it but it's one of my favorite moments in the show. I feel like Jon telling him that he's a Greyjoy and a Stark made things click for Theon. He saved his sister and then goes to fight for the Starks because he really is both!!
    Not a spoiler, but something I wish I had done before watching the next episode. Turn up the brightness on your screen and/or watch in as much dark as possible. It is a very dark episode (not talking about content). There isn't a lot of lighting in the episode and it can be difficult to see. Another great reaction! ❤️

      @@kappa_06I always loved Sansa so im obviously biased, but I also loved the Sansa and Jon/Theon reunitions, but not the Arya/Jon reunition. It could be because of the score (or lack of) like Sheila is writing about, but I think the main reason is that Im more invested in Sansas storyline, whereas I was never really interested in Aryas (or Daenerys) storyline for that matter 😎

    Jaime naming Brienne a knight is probably the best scene in the entire season.

  • @Tormund_Giantsbrain
    @Tormund_Giantsbrain 2 роки тому +44

    Jaime knights Brienne with Widow's Wail, while she has Oathkeeper with her. It's the symbolic coming together of the swords Tywin re-forged from Ned Stark's sword Ice. Where else but in Winterfell. With the knighting it's like the Two Swords are one once again. That was a nice touch, dare I say. The first time Jaime saw Brienne was as a prisoner, during that heated "Kingslayer! And what a King he was!..." convo that he had with Catelyn about knighthood and forsaken vows. Now that conversation is complete.

    Pod’s song, Jenny of Oldstones, is particularly relevant due to how it’s about one of the tragedies that set up the events of the series and how it’s subject matter resembles Jon’s parents.
    The titular Jenny was a commoner/wood witch with links to the Children of the Forest who fell in love with Prince Duncan Targaryen, heir to the Iron Throne and son of Aegon the Fifth, the last good Targaryen King (and one of the protagonists of the excellent prequel short stories, Tales of Dunk and Egg). Aegon had promised Duncan would marry a Baratheon bride but Duncan eloped with Jenny which set off the first Baratheon rebellion. Unlike the later Robert’s Rebellion, this one ended peacefully though when Duncan’s sister married the Baratheon heir (ultimately becoming Robert’s, Stannis’ and Renly’s grandmother and Gendry’s great grandmother ) and Duncan abdicated the Throne to be with Jenny.
    Unfortunately this wasn’t a happy ending because of “The Tragedy of Summerhall” when Aegon tried bringing back the dragons a generation before Dany successfully did . The ritual failed for whatever reason and the castle of Summerhall burned down with Aegon, Duncan and most of the court dying in the process. The tragedy resulted in the Mad King in line for the Throne, thus setting the stage for the series.
    Jenny survived the fire though and the song is a description of her being at the ruins of Summerhall and the ghosts she’s dancing with are Duncan, his family and everyone else that died as a result of her tragic love.

      Jenny wasn't a Woods Witch but she brought a Woods Witch to court.
      This Woods Witch, "The Ghost of High Heart“ appears in the books in one of Aryas chapters and predicts certain events like the Red Wedding, Lady Stoneheart and the Purple Wedding.
      It is likely that she is Jenny's mother and half human half COTF, because she is kind of dwarfish and has red eyes and she can see visions from the Weirwoods.

I vaguely remembered it for being slow, but on rewatches I've grown fond of this episode, as it gets me sad and nostalgic for the crazy journey we've had. It tugged the heartstrings much better than what I initially remembered. Pod's Jenny of Oldstones sets the mood. The Night Before Winter.

    Here's the problem with Show Tyrion vs Book Tyrion. Tyrion in the last book pretty much starts turning into a villain. Show Tyrion tries to remain a good guy and therefore his actions and personality just come across as stupid because it doesn't work with what the story is trying to do and tell. The Showrunners didn't want to portray Tyrion going bad and that leads to the dumbass we see in this show who tries to be a goody two-shoes whose actions and ideals do not make any sense considering what happened to him in previous seasons because of Tywin and Cersei and King's Landing.

    • @Cream-2128
      @Cream-2128 2 роки тому +3

      Also somehow they just make it like him and Cersei actually give a shit about each other

    • @SerbAtheist
      @SerbAtheist 2 роки тому +1

      There is nothing in the books indicating book Tyrion is going bad. His arc of being in captivity is simply much longer and indeed isn't even properly complete by the end of the fifth book. The books in general have an overall nastier and more cynical tone than the show, but it doesn't make either worse than the other. Such level of cynicism would not have translated well on the TV screen, or do you think it was somehow a tragedy that Penny and 'where do whores go?' was not included in the show. The reason Tyrion is trying to be a goody-two-shoes is that his cynicism nearly got him killed, so he is in an extremely vulnerable position of being sick and tired of being a cynic, i.e. he fervently for just one time in his life wants to believe in something. The fact people prefer a drunken lecherous Tyrion that enjoys putting people down is a completely different matter.

    • @HeatKingMedia
      @HeatKingMedia 2 роки тому +3

      @@SerbAtheist He literally says in the last book he wants to rape and kill Cersei and disowns Jamie after the truth about Tysha is revealed to him. Book Tyrion couldn't give two shits about his siblings anymore. If anything, once he gets to Dany and in a good position with her, he's gonna be the voice in her ear telling her to straight up burn Kings Landing to the ground. Not to mention he manipulates Young Griff to straight up go ahead and begin invading Westeros and Kings Landing instead of going to Dany first thing.

    • @SerbAtheist
      @SerbAtheist 2 роки тому +1

      @@HeatKingMedia OK, so he a couple of shades of gray darker of a character and is more upset at Jaime than in the show, while book Cersei is essentially a 2D caricature by the time we get to Crows, but it still doesn't make him the kind of character who would propagate genocide. He defended the people in the Battle of Blackwater very much like on the show. Not to mention, if he was so evil he would have left Penny to her devices a long time ago. In fact, what purpose idealism has in the show is very much served by Penny in the books. She is very much an opposite character to Tyrion, whose whole purpose will be to mellow him out a bit.

    I do certainly have gripes with season 8, but I do also enjoy the character moments here. I adore that shot of Tormund slamming into Jon to hug him first lol, and Brienne's face when she's knighted, and Arya and Gendry getting together. Also, Bran being top notch dramatic again, saying "the things we do for love" to Jaime just to freak him out. He's not going to tell them what he did, but Jaime doesn't know that, so just the spike of terror he must get from that moment. And then to see Bran just serenely sitting there like he didn't just about make Jaime's heart jump out of his chest. Just, glorious
    These both have very different vibes to GoT, so I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but I'd love to see you react to shows like Leverage or The Librarians (also, the Librarian movies, which you should watch first for context for the show, if you end up doing that). Leverage is a found family of criminals who take down the rich and powerful and provide "leverage" to the people who've been victimized by them, through heists and cons and just general fun crime hijinks. Lots of interesting arcs about morality and recovery and justice and redemption throughout. The Librarians is fantasy, about a Library that houses magical artifacts now that the world doesn't know magic exists anymore, and it's about the people who go on adventures to find these artifacts and keep people safe from the repercussions of magical items falling into the wrong hands, basically. It's really lighthearted most of the time, but still has moments that just poleaxe you with emotion. Same with Leverage. They're some of my favorite shows, and they have really good writing too, and rock solid character development (although the Leverage seasons were aired out of order on the network compared to how the writers ordered them on the DVDs, so I'd recommend looking up the DVD order, because I think it makes the pacing make a lot more sense)

    You are absolutely right on everything you said. And most new reactors react the same way as you. So much brilliant stuff in the later seasons. Vast majority of viewers loved in real time, but now post-2019 gets shitted on by asoiaf geeks who has hijacked the narrative about the show. All of Tyrion's actions come down to him trying to be a dettering force to Dany's destructive abilities. Too many 4d chess geniuses can't comprehend that. Of course he will be fish out of water after running into exile after killing his father. These peoples idea of good writing is having a rigid charisma less log like stannis ruling happily ever after. I would rather watch paint dry. Their idea of good writing is disney cringe like arya wearing jaime's mask to kill cersei. I'd take the shows bad writing any day over the stuff these people came up with. That's the reason why GoT was watched by everyone and their mother and got every award in the face of this earth. If they had wrote to satisfy the forums, twenty thousand people would be watching it instead of twenty million.

      Even worse. These people don't simply say 'Well, this wasn't my cup of tea, but if you like it good for you.'
      They ACTIVELY hound the show runners, invent utterly bizarre conspiracy theories and are overall determined that nothing that doesn't satisfy their extremely pedestrian fanboy tastes ever be allowed to air again.
      First, the whole Star Wars thing. YEARS IN ADVANCE, the show was planned to have 7 seasons. That was before we even knew if there would be a fourth or fifth season. D&D EXTENDED it to 8 seasons. What they D&D REFUSED to do was artificially inflate the story (without being spoilery, it is obvious many things about the ending were planned years in advance), just so the fanboys could gorge on a neverending stream of content that sooner or later they themselves would tire, all the while complaining how the show 'wasn't as good as it used to be.'
      Second, they made up this massive conspiracy theory that D&D instituted MASSIVE last minute changes in the final season for... I guess no reason at all other than to spite the 'devoted fans.' Yup, D&D both at the same time wanted to get rid of GOT as quick as possible, AND spend an inordinate amount of time and effort changing the scenes from their original intention.
      Thus, it is not enough for them to say... 'I don't like what D&D did' or even 'I think D&D did not do a good job in the final season.' D&D have to be painted as the ultimate villains or buffoons, or better yet, both, in this massive smear campaign for 'ruining' the show they literally spend an entire decade of their lives bringing to the TV screen.

    Finally! The real fans of the show are starting to come out again. For a while there (and possibly still, on some other channels), all you were left with are complainers in the comments. You are the first reactor that I watched in a long time, because I liked going into the comments to read what people were saying, but I had to stop. Again...finally we are seeing positive comments (and commentators) who understand the real reason the show went this way. Basically, the character arcs haven't been written yet, and despite what people say, the showrunners did the best they could with what little outline they were given. For some reason, people are so naive that they think GRRM, giving D&D an outline, means that he gave them an ending. I can guarantee that he didn't (what writer in their right mind would do that), so they were left with trying to finish a story they thought they would have an ending to when they began the project, without a means to an end. Also, they've been on this uncertain journey for more than 10 years, they needed it to end. People will say that GRRM had loads of ideas to make it last, but the interview that he says that is when he still believed that he would finish the books. He threw D&D under the bus by not finishing the story when season 5 came around...and still, to this day. I don't blame D&D for walking away. And I think they did a fantastic job with what they had to work with. Good on you for understanding this, and staying positive, despite the negative viewers & commentors. I know it's why I keep coming back to check out your reactions. And I don't think I'm the only one. In fact, I'm sure of it.

    Yeah everyone differs in where they think it went bad, but most watchers do believe the show fella part somewhere in season 8 mostly it’s that the character arks didn’t follow their natural trajectories. And it was because the writers had a contract to do a stairwars movie so they cut the show from its proposed 10 seasons to 8 and rushed to wrap it all up. They did such a bad job that Disney fired them from the star wars movie after the end of HBOs GOT

And I think you’re right, I think it’s a case of having to wait more than a year between seasons, so the anticipation becomes so great and the expectations increase along with it. So be coming disappointed is a forgone conclusion because nothing can live up to the hype. But when you don’t have to wait that long you don’t have unrealistic expectations.

      I don't like the whole outrage over the battle being one episode, like what? They were supposed to fight for weeks? Months? Some of the hate is warranted, but a lot isn't. The rushed pacing was bad and a lot of minor details that would've been explored in earlier seasons were left out because of time constraints, so it felt like they were just hitting plot points. That hatred is warranted. But idk... All the characters ended up doing exactly what we thought they would do. Dany, Jon, Bran... It was always going to end that way, but the classic, dense GoT storytelling was thrown out the window because dumb and dumber wanted to go film Star Wars. But hey, look at the brightside. Sapochinik and Condal will do an amazing job with House Of The Dragon and won't do what DnD did. The future of GoT is in good hands. All we need is for George to finish the books lol. A man can only hope.

      @@MFBloosh Spoiler warning
      I can agree that Jon and Dany did what some viewers expected them to do, but Bran? Him becoming king came out of nowhere for most. And the way he became king didn't make sense in my opinion. Tyrion is put on trial Greyworm tells him to be quiet Tyrion continues speaking Greyworm for some reason does not stop him and Tyrion says Bran should be king. And everyone in the council agrees. Tyrion says himself: "Half the lords hate me because I served Dany and the other half hate me because I betrayed her." The arguments he makes for Bran becoming king only make sense (leaving the question whether the candidate with the best story is the best and whether Bran has the best story aside) for people who know the story. Viewers understood what Tyrion meant when he said he learned to fly and became the three-eyed raven. But did Gendry, Yara, Edmure or the prince of Dorne understand it? I am not even sure whether Sam and Sansa knew what being the three-eyed raven meant. For most council members a man they did neither like nor trust suggested Bran using arguments they didn't understand and they just said: "Aye." It might have made sense if Tyrion was known in Westeros not only in the fandom for being highly intelligent, but is he? People who know him like Sansa think so (or thought so before he was outsmarted by Cersei), but the rest? Tywin took the credit for Tyrions work in season two and he didn't do a great job as Dany's hand. Why exactly did for example Edmure agree to what Tyrion said. He has no reason to like Tyrion or his family, doesn't know how intelligent Tyrion is and probably didn't understand a word he said.
      Besides Bran gave the North independence immediately after his election, meaning he is now a foreigner in his kingdom. Firstly, at the very least Yara who had asked Dany for independence of the Iron Islands should have also asked for independence, probably also the prince of Dorne. Secondly, why would the six kingdoms accept a foreigner as king? Not to mention he then sends Jon to the wall allthough his authority ends at the neck. I am sorry but Bran becoming king giving the north independence and then sending Jon, who after Dany's death is again king in the North although he doesn't want it, to the wall is as if the EU made Theresa May head of the EU comission before the Brexit, allowed her to keep her post after the Brexit and then tried to banish Queen Elisabeth to Scotland.

    Some people are just salty, for the sake of being salty.
    I get having your own opinion, and thinking season 7 and 8 sucks big donkey balls.... but I've seen the same person, a few times, on different reactors season 7 & 8 videos, commenting on how much they hate it.
    I don't get the mentality of re-watching reactions, for episodes you despise, on multiple different channels, JUST to tell the person how much you hate it. If you like it, of course you want to watch it multiple times on different channels.... but if you hate it, either you are watching something you hate over and over again (which makes no sense), or are not actually watching the video each time, but are coming specifically just to leave an episode hate comment (which also makes no sense).
    If I hate something, the last thing I want to do is log into every comment thread about it, that I can find, just to say how much I hate it. I value my time too much to waste it like that.

    I wouldn't call it bad Tyrion writing. There has been a theme of the "older" characters getting outplayed by newer people. Cersei also has Qyburn as a hand and he's fairly smart too. I enjoyed the "Nights Watch" reunion too and I always love seeing Ghost.

    Have you heard what is coming to us all?
    That the world as we know it will be coming to an end

    Okay i don´t really often comment but now i have to. Believe me i liked season 7 and even when season 8 aired i was so hyped for every episode. I couldn´t really see the bigger picture up until the end of Episode 3. Thats when it all went down for me. When i see you having so much fun watching this episode, i see myself watching it for the first time. I still was a huge fan from this series up untill this point. I still wanted to buy every merch like GoT Monopoly, the whole Book collection, DvD collection etc etc. But in the end i found myself loving this show only up to season 7. Don´t get me wrong there are good parts in Season 8 and astonishing shots but the outcome of this show is horrible in my opinion. You are kinda still in the bubble like i was and i don´t want to get more into detail and maybe you like the outcome but i doub´t it. Im so curious and can´t wait to see your reactions. Keep going, i really like your content. (When i think about GoT i kinda think about Linkin Park - IN THE END while im writing this. - I Tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn´t even matter-

But you shouldn't have to. After all, there are nearly 8 billion people on the planet. It's statistically unlikely we'll all like the same things.
    *Edit:* And this is coming from someone who _absolutely despises_ what *Game of Thrones* became after they ran out of book material. But even a broken clock is right twice a day.

    Would Dany agree to step back for Jon? Zero chance. And it's not a "sudden development" in her either. Dany has always been exactly the same type of domineering and intolerant to anyone questioning her authority. Most of her scenes in the last 5 seasons is her advisors trying to restrain her from doing something drastic. But some ppl act surprised as if they expected her to be all nice and spiffy now that those opposing her aren't unknown Meerenese nobles anymore but beloved characters on this side of the sea.

      I suspect that like Beric Dondarian saying every time he comes back from the dead he's a little less himself. I think every time Dany burns herself to death and comes back she is a little less herself. But where Beric believes in the Lord of Light as the reason he comes back and becomes more of a fanatic each time - Dany only believes in herself. So each time she comes back she is convinced in her supremacy. Her power. Her right to rule.
      When it just might be a genetic trick.
