Hi Brent... You really got some good footage of all the "goings on" at and around this rally... Thanks for sharing it. Quick question regarding your buddy hole-ing a piston... At what CHT on an air cooled 2 stroke (Malossi 70cc Sport kit) should I start to worry??? I have 2 pretty similar builds that stay around 250 and 280F in stop and go city type traffic, but once I get on an open stretch and run 3/4 to WOT for more than a mile or so I get CHTs as high as 320F... Is this something. to worry about? Your thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated... Thanks Brent and keep up the great work!
The best advice I can give you on max temp is to ignore most of the numbers that anyone says and pay attention instead to what your particular setup does while you tune and ride. I've only had good results with a CHT from my own experience with each setup. I've owned 3-4 different brands/types of CHTs and they all ran a little different temps. I had one that read 330-350F WOT, and then switched gauge setups and it ran 280-300F. No way the cylinder just wanted to run 30-70F colder all of the sudden. Exactly how they're in or on the head and airflow and other variables will throw it off at least to some degree, aside from differences in the actual engine combo. Pretty much whatever you put on there though, 350F is about as hot as you'd want to see.
Hi Brent. That is good to know!!! I'm pretty sure I'm running a main jet little on the fat side on my Rough House and it seems to top out at 320F.... I just installed the Trail Tech CHT gauge on my wife's Buddy yesterday... I'll fatten up that main jet too and see if it comes down any... Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions...
@@MarkSmith-rc8bx I used CHT for years, and it's a good monitor that is so much better than nothing... but after having an EGT I would highly recommend that if you want a tuning tool. Responds very quickly and tells you what's going on much closer to real time with better accuracy. CHT is easier to install and cheaper, but EGT is a better tool for what most of us actually want... knowing if we're in tune and gonna melt something.
I'm currently bought to build a Kymco zx50 super fever as I Also Have A Built Kymco Super 8 2t 70cc Big Tire 14 inch wheels love them. Then I have my four stroke 232cc 4valve Liquid & Oil Cooled Swapped Honda Ruckus

Have you ever used a racing oil such as AMSOIL DOMINATOR 10W-30 in a 49cc stock"ish" scooter? 49cc's seem to always be running at high RPM's do to their limited horse power. Not sure if it's OK. Will the high temp viscosity of 30 and the anti-wear additives cause issues? Your thoughts? Thanks, 🛵
I haven't used that. I use Mobil 1 Racing 4T that's 10W40 in my TMAX, but most small scoots have no need for an oil that works with a wet clutch. While I use AMSOil Dominator Racing 2T oil in my two-stroke, I would probably try something closer to the rating of 10W40 or 15W40 that many of the Chinese scoots specify. If the owner's manual says 10W30 though, go for it. I use Shell Rotella T 15W40 in my TaoTao and just change it every 500 miles. The only reason I haven't used synthetic in it is cost.
I know it's pricey most are... but they have: AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil 10W 40 ($14.29) Product code: ASOQT-EA.I Was thinking about that. Considering scoots only use ~750ml of oil per change I can probably justify that price every +/- 500 miles
@@MindKontrolleProject Another thought is that I see Wal-Mart 10W40 blend for $17 for 5 quarts. Use a little cheaper oil, but install an oil cooler. That would probably give you better protection than an expensive oil without a cooler and cost less over the life of the engine. Obviously the best case would be the cooler and a full syn, but I wouldn't be changing it at 500 miles in that case. Even with just the full syn, I'd consider 1,000 mile interval. This oil talk is just opinion though. You'd have to get oil analysis done at different mileages to really figure out what's best.
