I hate it when people tell you that your journal is not this or that. Since it is mine, I can and will make it to suit me! We are all different, and that's the beauty of it! Thank you! ❤
Junk journaling in my deffinition is merely a mixed media platform of the artist's choice whether it be the inclusion of new, old, vintage, grunge, junk or whatever brings you joy! There are no rules...just suit yourself & be creative with what you've got.
Lol someone should explain that to my mom and aunt (mostly my aunt) that just because it says junk journal doesn’t mean it has junk in it lol…I love doing it because it helps me when I have anxiety and I have fun with it
Thank you, Melina. I have only created one junk journal...it was in 2020 when we were all staying in our homes. It is a junk journal but done in a colorful, non-vintage style. While I used actual "junk" I also used scrapbook paper, stamps, stickers and other non-junk supplies, too. It's style is kinda sorta shabby chic with touches of whimsy here and there. I love how it came out because it is very much "me". 😊 I am itching to try again and the tips in this video will be so helpful! Having a 'formula' is going to streamline the whole process. Thank you so much!
Thank you Melina for addressing some of the snobbiness that’s occurring in the JJ world! There is room for everyone & every kind of journal &/or scrapbook! I don’t have a printer yet, so I use more scrapbook paper, along with other kinds of ephemera. I was a card maker first & I did a lot of stamping, so I still do that. I’ve been a quilter for many years, so I add in fabric! The point is, like you said, is to do what makes you happy! That’s why I enjoy JJ, the sky is the limit as far as creativity goes & things like buttons & ribbon are easy to come by. Clip the postage stamps off mail you’ve received & you’re on your way to having ephemera! I love the simple lines of these 2 journals you’ve created & I still enjoy seeing how people bind their journals, I learn new little tidbits every time! (Like your pretty ribbons & lace in the center!) I look forward to seeing what you add to these journals! Thank you & blessings to you! Erica❤
I have made a junk journal from your book page tutorial and had a ball making it mine. Your tutorials are great and inspiring. I feel very encouraged to make more by your videos and showing how easy it is to begin with what you have.....THANK YOU🌻🌻
You have no idea how pleased I was to find you Melinda. I have been trying on and off for a long time to make a journal.I don’t have vintage or printables and was feeling that what I came up with wasn’t “normal”j.j. or as acceptable as the vintage,/grungy journals. In my opinion. It was such a relief to watch you make one using scrapbook paper and I would like to make one the same and perhaps using dyed copy paper or other papers not necessarily vintage. I would love to see how you decorate them as I struggle with that at times as well .I have watched quite a few creators over the years and some are make completely different journals to another…one has a theme on every page, another uses mainly torn and old papers, another stamps and stencils everything ,another paints everything with acrilyic paint before beginning.I think I became overwhelmed and confused with the diversity of j.j.s available and it was wonderful to hear your commonsense approach and encouraging comments. Thank you so much .I would like to see your mothers site as well so can you tell me her name please. From Australia 🌹
You are right and so sweet, Melina. Too bad we need reminding to be ourselves and “you do you”. But, it seems we do! At 63 I am getting better at it! Great tutorial on binding. Thank you💕
I make about all of my Traveler’s notebook inserts. You make it so easy to follow your videos.I use them for Sermon Notes. Thank you for sharing with us.
Hey Melina, I try to keep a few junk journal signatures made(not sewn), so I just grab what I need for what I'm working on. No one way is right when journaling. Do what you want. Have a Blessed Day. 🙂❤️
😊Thanks for showing how to make them this way, Melina. At the beginning when I started making journals I went crazy trying to find vintage "stuff", let me tell you that's a whole job 😮💨😩 I kept watching videos until I said I can probably use this (cardstock) as a soft cover. Did a little search here on YT and 🤯 I went into a rabbit hole. So now I make mines like this 🤗🥰❤️ and they always turn out beautiful. I also use cereal boxes and digitals, then I modpadge the papers onto the box with my favorite page. ❤I give mines away to family members, friends and when I see someone going through a rough time. I don't have the courage to sell anything online 😩 I get real bad anxiety just to think about it. Plus now is hard for me to make them quick enough because I have a baby at home, and we'll... Let's just say my "me"time" is no longer mine 😂 I love your channel, your mom's and Mrs. Betty's. I'm so happy I found you ladies❤ Sending blessings your way. 🫂
Melania this video has been a great choice for me in reviewing your 2023 tutorials. I appreciate your tutorials always but this one has allowed me to open up to using papers l have that are not vintage but l avoided . So l have a sweet blue themed journal now😊Thank you for sharing your own thoughts on the approach to creating a journal from any choice we want to make. My motto now is YOU DO YOU
Good morning Melina! 💕 Thanks for the ideas. Good way to use up papers. I accumulated tons of scrapbooking papers/collections before I even had a clue about making journals. Turns out, I loved the papers (still do!) but didn’t care for making scrapbooks. Go figure. Therefore, I’m always looking for ways to use my precious scrapbook papers. I very rarely use digi kits (my printers and I never seem to gee-haw) so now use a combination of scrapbooking paper, dyed papers, and ‘junk’ (book pages, ledger paper new or old, whatever, etc.) when putting journals together. Hope y’all made it through our storms this weekend ok. Will try to catch up. 😀
Thank you! I have googled modern junk journals and have found only a few examples. I love the idea of a junk journals with tucks, flaps, and decor using modern card stock and paper. To me it is still “junk”, because I have a lot of it leftover from other projects. I want to use my extra supplies up for a nice project like the one you have created here. I will also look on your channel to see if you have any modern junk journal videos with multiple signatures in one book.
I believe so if the staples were the longer pronged ones. They would need to be a little longer than average to got through the card stock stacked in the pages. If it was only copy paper inside, I'd say for sure staples would work on the spine.
Here ya go Denise. We were called away to a family function and I forgot to finish my description before we left. ua-cam.com/play/PLaYCC1TtZXXdBeupDecuq0neNKNjf6ALM.html
As long as the scrapbook papers aren't too heavy, you could totally do that! If your papers are the same weight as copy paper is, go for it. That would be so pretty! :)
I have scrapbook paper left over from my daughters baby scrapbook. She is 40. That is vintage to me!

How refreshing! I sometimes get tired of vintage.

This was such a great video. I have watched loads of tutorials, but they were daunting. I will give this a try. Keep safe and happy. Xxx❤️❤️💐💐❤️❤️
Thank you. I watched this last year but didn’t comment. This one is so nice as are all your journals.
Love both sizes Melinda ❤️ very easy way. I've started a few now. I've learned so much from you and your mom, love you both. 😍

Beautiful work Melina I have been wondering if I could use scrapbook paper Thank you so much God Bless
Thank you for doing this!!!
Tyfs
Thank you for showing to make a journal. My problem is I can make the journal but adding pockets and tags is what I have a problem with.
Could you make this with a long stapler?
I believe so if the staples were the longer pronged ones. They would need to be a little longer than average to got through the card stock stacked in the pages. If it was only copy paper inside, I'd say for sure staples would work on the spine.
Hi Melina I don’t see the video link for that other scrapbook journal you made! Keeping it on file..unless I’m blind, which could def be it 😂

@@MelinaPylant oh my goodness no worries!! Good chance I missed it!! 😄thank you!!💖💖💖
Would it be too thick to use plain white scrapbook paper instead of the copy paper?
As long as the scrapbook papers aren't too heavy, you could totally do that! If your papers are the same weight as copy paper is, go for it. That would be so pretty! :)
❤
😊
To avoid the “Junk Journal” police, I just call mine interactive journals. I actually have both terms on my shop banner
❤
