That one shieldmaiden getting her spine repeated crushed by a shield around d 4:16 was probably the most disturbed I've been with a death in this show, brutal
@@Korgvex por supuesto que si, un escudo vikingo pesaba entre 5 y 7 kg y si las cantoneras del borde estaban hechas de bronce o hierro eran perfectamente capaces de aplastante un hueso si te golpeaban con fuerza.
all these fight scenes are done excellently, but when king Harald is facing the dude with the 2 handed axe, it is short but the most impressive one - the shield gets knocked out of his hand, his reaction to it, so very realistic
I think Ivar has a plan here. His alliance with King Harald is tentative and he knows it. So he pulled his forces back from the fighting so Harald lost a sizeable amount of his force, as well as Latertha. Later, Ivar comes in and wins the war, with Harald too weak to challenge his claim to the throne.
nah. it wasn't a plan. he just lost. because of Hvitserk flanking. couldn't anticipate those samy people. Rollo the traitor will join Ivar and win against Kattegat
I think that ivar simply underestimated Bjorns intelligence. He thinks that Bjorn is just a great warrior, but a meat head when it comes to strategy. Bjorn showed many times how skilled and clever he is, but ivar doesn't know it
Mohammed Yousef yeah this was the classical pyrrhic victory , ivar couldn't trust in the longrun harald , so let harald and lagertha slaughter each other , and keep your own warriors in reserve , now ivar has found out bout the Sami , and has the Frankish wild card in his pocket . I like the part when Halfdan told ivar " ivar ure so cynical , u just don't care " and ivar " i care bout winning this war " , in this ivar is already so similar to both ragnar and rollo , he just doesn't care bout gods and traditions , he's already putting them into question like ragnar and rollo did .

Jim Shore For a time you can say they did. They set up puppet states all throughout Europe during the Viking age. This show kind of goes over that but with not much detail. This show basically takes the 300 year Viking age and condenses it down to a few decades. The show does this for dramatic effect and it works well. I like it, but it does inevitably skip over alot of stuff.
Jim Shore in a way you could say they did, through their children or by their settlements they helped create the modern states of France, England, Russia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.
Say what you like about excessive violence on television, but it takes far more skill, talent and ingenuity to do a good fight scene than it does to film comedies or romance or even drama, and Vikings does exceedingly well given their tight budget. I'm not sure why they depicted the Saami as fighting with blow darts...they've had a reputation as archers as far back as the writings of Tacitus, and invented the Molotov Cocktail and the "Finnish anti-tank weapon" (a large stump flung with formidable force that would really fix Ivar's little red wagon). Then again, Bjorn fought an American grizzly in Season 3, so this isn't the first time they've taken liberties with historical details!
Ivar was playing the long game here, I suspect he intended for Harald to be killed during the battle but if he survived both he and Lagertha would have lost a significant amount of their forces while his army is fresh, a cunning fellow.
Now, despite having lost, Ivar has accomplished weakening two adversaries, knowing where certain people’s loyalties lie, and learning battle tactics of Lagertha and Bjorn. Does that really sound like a loss?
Great scene, great music accompaniment. The moment when the warriors realise even amidst all the carnage and bloodmadness that there are more enemies around than their own side - you see it when the bishop and King Harald are fighting, they realise it. Terrifying and thrilling.
Mirthe Wolsink Ivar didn't care bout Kattegat , like he admitted to Harald , why she doesn't give up Kattegat and makes Bjorn king ? Why she killed Aslaug in cold blood after her surrender ? Ivar has every right to ask for revenge .
I think that ivar lost this fight on purpose he was trying to get harald killed or to lose a great number of his fighters so he can't challenge ivars claim to the throne
How do they know on which side everyone is? I mean, yes, they have the shields but not every warrior carries one. And even if they have a shield there is a confusing amount of different markings...
I think Ivar was trying to have Harald and Lagertha lose a significant amount of their forces so he could have more numbers than Harald when they won, but Hvitserk fucked up a bit so Ivar came out with no advantage. If Hvitserk had instead of getting his troops to turn around and flee, back away slowly with their shields up, until they got out of the forest, then he would have had a very large group of soldiers supporting Ivar that would still be alive.
It honesrly seems that Ivar gave up this fight. In the end it proved to be just a front for the final showdown. If he had engaged them he could have probavly won but he didn't want to risk so he just went home.
Constantine Joseph Only rich people had helmets, since metal was very expensive and precious in the Viking age....and this show is known to not always be historically accurate.
Vigings didn't have arrow blowing tubes. That is a south Asian and African weapon.Pretty fake. They travelled to many places but certainly not these parts of the world.
