Hunting Down the Elusive Urban Canal Carp (Late Autumn)

- This time of year I'm usually targeting perch and pike with the weather cooling right down, but seeing as the conditions were still quite mild i decided to set my sights elsewhere. After a lure session on the river i decided to hop onto the canal. I had spotted a couple dark shapes while I was out pike fishing. On closer inspection I noticed that these were in fact carp! This was a busy Urban part of the canal not usually the place I'd like to sit and fish, but I only had a couple days before the temperature would dropped right off, so I knew I had to get on them asap. This is how I got on. Hope you enjoy.

Fair play mate that carp was stunning, who wouldn't wanna catch that over a carp from a hook a duck commercial venue. Plus getting that bread out before those walkers rocked up, pure class.

Canals are largely overlooked by carpers you would be surprised whats in there ,where I fish I've heard of sturgeon in the water over 4ft long and stretches of carp with nothing under 25lb

And that's the way to finish your canal and river carp fishing for 2021. Although that Carp wasn't the biggest it was certainly one of the best marked and patterned Mirror carp that I've seen in a while. Great capture,Chris.☺👍

Great day on the Canal there Chris. I see the Carp In ours, and they are really big. Not seen any big size chub In there. There are some lovely Tench and Bream though. The one I can't wait for, Is the Secret Pond, and those cracking Pike, Don't forget the Keepnet that day. Keep 'em Coming.

You did well to even get a bite from a carp this time of the year, Very old skool king mirror carp. I love long wild carp, A lot of carp are bred short and chunky and pile on 5-8lb per year. some mirroe carp at a local lake are the spitting image of each other, all as wide as they are long.
Lovely carp Chris just goes to show how no two days are the same in angling and its a constant learning curve .I've often seen carp that will come up even on the coldest days to feed.
Mad that carp are still feeding on the surface in these conditions. Cracking angling, well done!

Nice catch! Week ago i was doing the same thing with corn but when i noticed 2 carps trying to take some bugs of the surface so i had one slice bread and hooked it up and saw one take my bread and got em one of the nicest way of catching a carp os from the surface 😁🤩

It seems rare to me for carp or chub to be caught on canals. I think when looking to carp fish on a canal you have to see them so you know they're there, otherwise fishing for them anywhere on any canal is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Nice angling and well spotted with those carp 👍
That stretch has a good head of chub but I’ve only ever seen one carp and that was at lot further upstream earlier this year. I guess it’s just down to local knowledge. I caught my first two chub on lures further upstream earlier this year inspired by one of Chris’s videos. Great carp I’ll be going to have a snoop round this weekend. Great video Chris 👍

People want to go to far flung destinations, for exotic fish. But me.....Id like to visit the UK and catch carp and chub.
Few years back, I was fishing on the Thames for chubb and hooked something much bigger that turned out to be a 24lb common. Never had a fight like it before or since. I've had bigger carp from lakes but nothing like that
Cant beat it my friend 5lb canal carp fight harder then 20lbs lake carp any day 💯

That's how Carp should look👍Not the bloated gutted obscene fish that are overfed in lakes. Great fish in great condition, hence the fight.
