So it's worth noting that, to date, this lap time has STILL not been beaten. Not even by the Atom V8, the BAC Mono, or even the Huayra, which is still three full seconds slower.
Three seconds means nothing if the car has reliability issues. I'm sure it could be beaten, just depends if someone goes out of their way to do so. Nissan went to beat a 911 turbo and so they did, with the GT-R. I actually think Nismo modded 900bhp GT-R maybe could.
The car had reliability issues because it was a prototype, not a production model. This is also the reason that it was removed from the board, as it lacked the production car's adjustable ride height and was incapable of going over a speed bump.

apmirkin Prototypes, by definition, are not finished products. Every prototype is like this. Even the Mazda Furai caught fire when it was tested by TG. The car isn't 'rubbish'. It's the closest thing we ever got to a road-legal F1 car, which is a big milestone in itself.
Also, why do you say you can't drive it home? It's every bit impractical, but so is an Ariel Atom, which has even less equipment than this.

He is a pro. Not ex-f1 though... not sure if this was filmed before or after Ben Collins left as sting but, even the new "white" stig didn't drive in f1.

@@theeternalnow6506 Top Gear requires that a car must be able to clear a speed bump in order for its time to remain on the board. The T1 they tested was a pre-production model that did not have the ability to raise its nose, so the time was removed
However, I believe the real reason is that leaving the T1's lap time up would rob the show of the 'suspense' value of seeing whether a new hyper car could set the fastest time. The answer would always be 'no'. The T1 improved on the old track record by 7 seconds. It's taken ~14 years for another car to come within 1 second of this lap time
@@ccx806 but still though to this day even though the t1s lap was taken off the lap board no road car has been able to ever get anywhere close to that bilstering 1:10.6 that the caparo set. And to be honset i dont think it will ever get beat.

but the buggatti wieghs as much as a truck 4000 pounds with 1200-1400 horse power is only 600 hp per ton

Patthon Sirilim we need to start with how much this car wieghs, but that doesnt matter because it only has 500-700 horsepower vs the bugatti 1200-1400hp... this means that caparo only wiehgs about 1000 pounds.
im just saying man people this have no clue how much power a car make a stock evo which is quite fast make only 150hp per ton a typical car make around 60-80hp per ton so 600+ hp per ton is not really just only is it

Ben Scott-Geddes of Caparo has stated that, "the model we supplied to Top Gear was one of our final engineering vehicles without adjustable ride height and electronic active driver control systems which are standard on our production models. When drivers select the 'road' setting, the car is more tractable in slower speed conditions and the ride height is fully adjustable to bring the car up to 90 mm clearance, making it more than capable of driving over speed bumps."

Lol, the caparo T1 decimated other road legal cars. Even now that the real Top Gear is dead, it would've been the fastest legal time on the board. Bit of a marketing blunder of caparo to not supply a car with the proper adjustable ride height. Probably would've helped them some if the time stayed on.

It's a shame the T1 has the reliability of an early 70's F1 car. Every test video I've come across results in an engine fire or something else equally disastrous.

Except that the Bugatti isn't even designed with downforce in mind with the exception of the rear wing. I'm surprised that muscle car fanatics don't care about the Veyron, because it uses the exact same brute-force formula as a Mustang and just takes it to the logical extreme.

I'd like you to do an experiment. Grab a cheap RC car kit from a hobby store (an ECX Torment is a good choice for this). Charge the battery, then run three full-throttle passes on a flat surface, making sure to jot down the top speed. Now, recharge the battery pack, then run three more full-throttle passes, this time with a cinderblock strapped to the chassis. The car should be faster without the cinderblock on it. Next, drop in a high-performance brushless system into that car and repeat the experiment. Again, the car should be faster without the cinderblock - specifically, the car should be fastest with the brushless motor and without the cinderblock, followed by the car with the stock setup and no cinderblock. If nothing else, this should prove that it's not the Veyron's weight that makes it fast.
They would have to work a hell of a lot on the brakes and the chassis and the reliability before they should consider putting over 1,000 bhp under that incredibly lightweight body :P

the T1 is the ultimate supercar track day special, no one in their right mind would take this out on a normal road, to blitz that track is 1,10 is insane, and stigg's lap was incredible, showing great skill.
I wonder if there's a single T1 now that is still in use.

Wtf, this is the very fastest road going car ever made, it makes 3G lateral force, highest power-to-weight ratio, highest power/unit displacement, and above all its Naturally Aspirated!!!
This car with track tires (slicks) is untouchable. Forget the cornering problems if the tires are warm it is unbelievable. Also it helps if you are not driving in Brittan where the weather is horrible all the time.
This was the first episode I ever watched of top gear as a kid with my Dad. I was hooked ever since…..good times 😎

Jamie Stirzaker nope. some former engineers from the mclaren f1 project were originally involved with designing this car. thats the only relation between caparo and mclaren that i know of.

The red bull prototype X2010 was designed around the Caparo T1 so there will be a lot of similarities.

No it wouldn't be able to corner as fast the car does not make any lift so it would even do one backflip it would probably unsettle the car a bit and then the driver would slow down

I don't get the point of this kind of car. It's more like a formula 1 than a supercar. It's just a powerful superspeed "thing".
It's a Formula 1 car for people who aren't lucky enough to be picked up by a Formula 1 team and can't afford a $2.6 Million Formula 1 car and the millions of dollars of support equipment that's needed to maintain and operate one.
If you ever wanted to drive a Formula 1 car, this is the closest thing to it unless you want to race professionally or are a multimillionaire.

@ tarekun most likely because its design was a prototype test bed for the Redbull X2010 and yes it does resemble the X2010. Only difference is it dosent have that giant fan creating so much dirt and dust in the gravel.
