- THINGS WE LOVED IN JANUARY & AN AMAZING WINTER SOUP// Hello, We haven't done a favourites video in quite a while and thought it would be great to film a new one. So today you will hear about things we loved in January (and still love of course) and Joerg is also sharing his favourite winter soup, it's his very own creation, easy to make and perfect for cold days. I'm turning 50 this year too. Even though I feel much younger than what my mind thinks 50 is, I'm really happy to be 50!
And now 50 is the new 30as we live longer,eat well,clean air,etc.Both Joerg and Kirsten certainly look younger than their ages.

I forget how old I am biologically and just think this way each morning as I greet the day..."Today is the youngest I will ever be...and tomorrow, I will be one day wiser, thanks to what I learn and those I meet, and the discussions and thoughts I experience today." Kirsten, I'm so happy to hear you being so sensible about aging. My brother would have been 74 on the 8th of February. He died at 44. He was a young man in his prime when he died, gone 30 years this year. He never got to grow old. Those of us that do have the opportunity should be grateful and feel very, very blessed.
I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your brother at such a young age.

I never thought much about age until I turned 60. For some reason that was the year that freaked me out the most. This year I will be 70. I noted your little garden behind Joerg in this video. I would be interested to see a tour. I don’t recall you ever showing it before. Loved the green and white checked drapes.

I really love soups. I grow up eating soup that my Portuguese grandmother used to do. And now, when I am almost reaching 50 years of life, I also cook vegetables soups mainly during winter season (June and July) in south hemisphere. I will try your recipe, Joerg! You are a chef! 👨🍳👏👏👏👏👏❤️ love you both!

There is nothing like ‘comfort’ food - And peeling and chopping can be really therapeutic.
And Portuguese wine was a lovely touch, great with the soup!
I love Ralph Fiennes and I loved The Dig. I like a good vegetable soup. My husband has cut my hair twice since last March and did a very good job, but like Sally Field's in Steel Magnolias, it is just a now gray football helmet. "Little moments," very sweet.
The soup looks absolutely delicious. Joerg is so precise in his vegetable chopping. You two are so pleasing and loving, your home is cozy and your food delicious. I do so enjoy your videos.

The soup looked hearty, and warming, I'm in Yorkshire and we've had snow on and off now since just after Christmas 🥶 I made a warming chilli today and mixed the leftovers with rice and beans and made burritos, get me! When I was a kid I wouldn't have known what a burrito was if it introduced itself to me 😂 keep warm and stay safe👍

I really think that is why Kristen and Joerg have such a great marriage. Because they practice these principles daily with each other.
Absolutely loved this episode! Your dress is sooo pretty, especially the detail on the sleeves. Just wanted to say my cats absolutely adore your voices, as soon as I play one of your videos both of my cats settle down with big grins on their faces and blissful expressions. I actually think they now recognise you both!!! By the way I’ve gotten into pure beeswax candles recently and they are just beautiful compared to paraffin. They give off a golden glow like sunlight and purify the air. I’d def recommend giving them a try 💖 🐝 Thank you for your calming & comforting content, with love from myself and the cats ☺️

I enjoyed The Dig also. And loved the house too. It was interesting to watch the history of Sutton Hoo, as this was the first exhibit I saw in the British Museum last time I was in London.

I really liked “The Dig” too! It led me to rereading Beowulf and was impressed with all the references to treasure and gold and jewel studded swords. And that made me think how we have our treasures too, our lovely tea cups and tea pots and William Morris wallpapers, and in my case a William Morris face mask! And I learned that William Morris did a translation of Beowulf! All these connections and interleavings-so intriguing!

The soup looks delicious, so healthy with all the vegetables. Warm and cozy on a wintery day. Thank you for the recipe! Joerge is so funny, especially when he teases Kirsten. Some people show a toothy, flashy smile but have cold eyes. Joerge is the opposite, his smile shows in his eyes first. Comes from his heart. And he loves to make his wife laugh!
As a Portuguese, I absolutely love how loyal Joerg is to Portuguese wine (even though this time he didn’t pick it!) 🍷🍷

I was watching jeorg make the soup and realised i did exactly the same thing today but with chicken which was good so now i shall try your recipe but with beef. I love home made soups you can just about throw anything in them and there far nicer than tinned or packet.the pyjamas are lovley very pretty.take care.
Oh yes, you can't compare it to ready made soups, we try to avoid that as you just don't know what's in there.

My grandmother had a similar soup although she called it stew. I make it often and think of her♥️ your soup looks delicious. I never thought of adding caraway may have to try that. Loved this one. That cake was almost too pretty to eat. Take care stay safe♥️😷

@@helenbailey8419 - I think she called it that because no fat, no sugar - just fresh veg, meat & stock. Another of those was one of my dad’s favourites was a thick slice of boiled bacon, boiled potatoes, pease pudding, carrots and cabbage with a little of the bacon stock water slightly thickened with a spoonful of the pease pudding - delicious 😋
I totally understand why you think about Valentine's Day the way you do. With all your little rituals like setting up the table nicely and sitting down together for a cup of tea and a slice of cake it's almost like you are celebrating love and being there for eachother (and Valentine's Day) every time you do things like this. One of my favourite things to cook is soup. I find peace in chopping the vegetables. Soup is a pot of love - I like layering the ingredients and flavours into something warm and hearty that hits my soul.

If you put less water in the soup and cook it in the oven, it will look like a stew. It's very tasty 😊

I agree with Joerg, PJ's are for bed. I too love William Morris wallpaper and think your beautiful new dress looks very much like his style. If I have to buy wine I normally choose by the label as well :| I make a lot of soups, and look forward to trying Joerg's. I highly recommend a Le Cruset cast iron dutch oven pot, they are a little more expensive than others but will last a lifetime and they are WONDERFUL to cook in. They go from stove top to oven and you can cook anything in them, even bread. Joerg's soup looked delicious and very healthy. Thanks for sharing!
I highly recommend visiting Sutton Hoo and seeing Edith Pretty’s Home at least from the outside. We visited Sutton Hoo several years ago and it was very interesting. Highly recommend it! Even the sheep had extra horns which was unique. We also saw the treasures in the British Museum. I just turned 64 and I am so happy to reach this. I look forward to 65 when I officially become a senior. As someone already stated, “growing old is a privilege, denied to so many”.. . I really enjoyed sharing all these wonderful things with you guys especially the Gluten Free Biscuit! Yum!

I just made a big pot of vegetable soup yesterday. My husband is vegetarian, so sometimes if I’d like meat in mine I just put some in another smaller pot and add meat. Both have it the way we like it💖. Kirsten your dress is gorgeous! Take care and have a good week.
I do love luxurious comfortable pajamas. As a history buff and a wanna be archeologist I knew all about the Sutton Hoo ship burial. I did watch the Dig and it was wonderful. I would love to see the artifacts in the museum and also visit the site. As I live in the US on a fixed income it will remain a dream.

We love soups in Winter too here. My husband has cooked since retiring. He does it better than I can! Love the makeup and the nightie ideas. Will be saving this website in order to order in the future.

OOO, Kirsten I love your top. It looks very William Morris-y! (I said this before you said the same thing!) LOVE your PJs. I love flannel in winter. Often with a flannel pants and knit top that is stretchy. We also watched The Dig the other night. I studied Sutton Hoo in art school. Not in depth, but at least when someone would mention Sutton Hoo I'd know what it was. When visiting the Hermitage in St. Petersburg we got special tickets for the Diamond and Gold rooms and the gold room relics of the Scythians reminded me of Sutton Hoo.
You two are a bit of hygge in my day.

I'm 60 never had a crisis with 30 40 50 or 60 and don't think l will at 70. As long as you stay on your path are true to yourself and maintain your purpose of your life there is nothing to regret.

I just discovered this channel recently & I have to say that I love it so much! This might sound a bit odd but my husband and I just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary & the way that Kirsten and Joerg are is how I hope we will also be in 10, 20 years (not that we aren't now, just hope it stays 😅). Joerg's soup looks fantastic and I can almost smell it! I make and freeze soup throughout the fall and winter months using my trusty slow cooker. I must try Joerg's recipe with beef!
