I really needed to watch you guys today as you two are so calming to watch. I’m in Michigan, USA and was feeling stress and worry of all the craziness here. Was watching the news too much so decided to stop and watch your videos instead. Your channel provides Calmness, decency, kindness, interesting subjects, warmth, and beauty. Thank you both for being so human and sweet. I feel better! There is still goodness in the world! Thank you., 🕊🌞🕊
Whenever I am feeling blue, which I am today as my elderly father is ill and nothing I can do, I watch your lovely videos and it cheers me up. Thank you for your lovely content, even if it is just sharing traditional childhood recipes. Love and Blessings from Virginia, USA.
My Mom put her homemade applesauce on toast, for me. She was raised in a Pennsylvania Dutch household. See, Joerg, not too weird! I love watching you two!
Oh I just love Jeorg’s stories! And the creatures! Well I don’t love the creatures just the way Jeorg said that. I two are so much fun to watch! Love from Maine ❤️❤️
I completely understand how you feel after the Christmas decorations are put away! Takes me a couple of days to get used to it. I often take the opportunity to rearrange furniture and/or artwok in the living areas and that seems to help. Gives spaces a fresh look.
I have quite a few decorations that are just winter - wooden pine trees, snowmen, and snowflakes. I take down the Christmas stuff but leave the winter stuff until mid-February. I find it’s a nice transition.
This brings back MY childhood memories, too! My mother is German American and she would make fried potato pancakes and also serve with homemade applesauce. I'm sure she learned about this recipe from her mother, who of course probably learned it from HER mother. Comfort food for sure
Always look forward to your videos ... especially now. I had a hard time the last few days, but then I realized that we are all facing it ... so thank you for the relaxation. To everyone ... stay safe
You make applesauce too! My neighbor from Ireland taught me and it is so much better than the commercial jar types! And it makes the house smell like heaven. Love spending time with the two of you, now my fave part of your cooking videos, watching Joerg eat! Stay safe and healthy!
I just love you guys... amidst all the turmoil in the world, your vlogs are so focused, and motivating, charming and peaceful...may you go from strength to strength..from a South African nurse ❤
I was born in Nurnberg 62 years ago. I live in the US now and the last time I was there was when I was 19. My mother was German but stopped speaking German to us when I was very young. I love my home town! Is there any way you could visit the Kristkindel Markt when you go back to visit your family? There are other videos on it but they are very old. I love watching your visits to Germany and your German food videos and I do like you speaking German so I can recognize what you say. I have never had this dish but I love potato pancakes and applesauce!
My Mum used to make reibekuchen (I think it's the same as potato pancakes/rösti). Not often because it was a lot of work for something that we considered 'a snack' but that made them all the more desirable. My Mum died in 2017 and I haven't had them since out of fear that they never could be the same again. Your video made me think: the memories will stay and even grow stronger when I ad my own touch to the reibekuchen. And while I'm at it, I can also try to make schaales. 😀
My mother also used to give us Dip butties which where bread dipped in the fat of the bacon....oh how I loved them when I was little....we had our little traditions from my mothers era but we where well fed with homemade food which was lovely....I don't think there where any ready meals in those days but I am so glad there weren't
Love the recipes, flowers, candles and your company. Blood pressure just went down 20 points. Enjoy you two in the kitchen together. I, also; miss the Christmas decor. Everyone should make homemade applesauce.🍎🍏. We put applesauce and peanut butter on regular pancakes. I find your stories of Germany very interesting. Be well.
My mother is from Holland. My father from England. I grew up in East Africa. Now I am married to an American and have two adopted children from Brazil. So I have memories of a lot of strange things that we ate. I was used to having bacon dripping sandwiches when I was growing up. My Mum would save the drippings from the bacon and spread it on our bread like butter. I made my husband one of these sandwiches for his lunch when we were first married and he called from the office and said, “what on earth is this sandwich you gave me?!?! “ LOL I also remember having to sit at the table a long time as a child because I did not want to eat my piece of bread with butter and sliced tomatoes with sugar on top. I had to sit there till I ate it and of course it got more and more soggy!!!!Anyway, I’m glad for all my experiences because there’s not too much that I can’t eat! Thank you so much Kristen and Joerg for sharing your lives with us. It brings me a lot of joy and calmness in a world that is really struggling right now. I also have to say thank you to Jesus because he died for my sins and has given me and the whole world the opportunity to accept his gift of eternal life in heaven with him one day where there will be no more troubles like there is on earth. I pray God‘s blessings on you all🙏🏽♥️
I love when you share making German recipes! This looks delicious! I would probably make some sauerkraut to go along with it! As always, love spending time with you both!
Dear Kirsten & Jörg, I enjoy your videos so much, whether you take us through your childhood recipes, through traditional British recipes or if you take us along in your discovery of the gorgeous British history and architecture or on your dishware and interior decoration hunts... I love England and the UK as much as I love Germany and I have been missing both for the past 4 years after a brutal life change. Thanks to you my heart and soul are still content and I can travel in my dreams. Thank you for letting us partake in your adventures.🥰
Thank you for the recipe. My mouth was watering from the beginning of the video! My mother, who passed a few years ago, loved fried potato pancakes. I believe she added yellow cornmeal and diced onion to leftover mashed potatoes, formed this into “pancakes” with her hands, then fried them in oil in a heavy skillet. This recipe using the yellow cornmeal was surely influenced by her southern heritage. (I am of the opinion that anything made with potatoes is a joy to eat.) Take care, you two. I look forward to your next video! 🥰 from Courtney in the USA
That potato dish looks delicious. I will have to give it a try. Had to laugh when Joerg said, no small creatures can crawl in, and home made applesauce is great. You two talking about the special memories was so nice.. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
I loved this vlog! I can’t wait to try this recipe, it looks so delicious! I love the little stories that you both share while cooking and eating. It makes the vlog very special.
Kirsten I love your dress and hair today! You look so pretty! I told my hubby to get ready to help me with this recipe, let's see if he does!!! It looks delicious, great job!

How lovely to see you enjoying your comfort food. You made me hungry! I’m glad that you have good memories from your childhood. I am heading to Michigan in a few months to visit my 95 and 92 year old parents. Whenever I visit I fill their freezer with meals, and also many many jars of applesauce which my dad especially loves. Bon appetite!
Oh, wunderbar...Endlich kann ich dieses Gericht aus meiner Kindheit nachmachen. Tante Olga passed away 60 years ago, so I never had the chance to ask her for the recipe. We called it "Schüsselback". Thank you so much 🙏
I love German food. I grew up with a German mother who cooked lots of great dishes. And now I'm hungry. Haha. Watching you from the Southern tier of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York USA ☃️
Hi Kirsten & Joerg, This was just so wonderful, brought back really great memories for me, my parents used to make potato pancakes (my grandparents were of German ancestry). My dad loved potato pancakes & I remember them being very filling. I'll have to try your recipes. Thank you so much for sharing, you both are just such a joy to watch. Take really good care, stay well, be safe! Much love, Kathy x
As a child, we did the same thing as your mother with toast, butter and applesauce. I still love it today. This potato dish looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Potatoes, onions and applesauce look yummy. Agree--putting away Christmas decor feels sad and the house looks strangely empty. But, I like to let the house "breathe" before decorating for Valentine's Day in early Feb. BTW--we still have two trees up/decorated because my husband can't part with them yet. I'll give it till this weekend. Stay safe and look forward to future videos. Best wishes from US Connecticut.
Joerg and Kirsten in the kitchen cooking German comfort food 😍love, love it. Love peanut butter too. Peanut butter on saltine crackers is a favorite quick snack of mine. The applesauce looks wonderful. Joerg is so nice. Cooks, fixes things and shows special things he likes in the kitchen besides Kirsten. Lol 👋🏼😊🇺🇸
That looked so good! It’s nice to learn traditional regional German recipes..keep up the cooking! Your videos are uplifting and enjoyable to watch Take care 🇨🇦 ❤️
Yes Kirsten I don’t like it when the decorations come down. It’s seems rather empty, and a bit depressing in a way. But you cooking cheered me up. Look forward to more videos. Thanks Kirsten and joerg..
I was happy to see a new video from you. I don’t know how to say this, but I’m happy I found your channel. I tried your shepherd’s pie recipe the other day and my family loved it. I told my family I couldn’t take the credit and instead, credited Mr. Joerg because it was the right thing to do 😁
Y'all both make me feel all warm and comfortable inside my heart. I love watching y'all both. It makes me wanna get married again. With love like yours I'm feeling hopeful in life. Thank you for sharing your meal plan with us. God bless you both.
What could be wrong? It's got all of my favorite foods. Apples, cinnamon, potatoes and fresh vanilla. YUMMY. All that is missed is the Christmas decorations. I'll be right over with my fork. ty
I remember earring homemade applesauce at my grandparents house. The Schwaglers. I had forgotten about it, maybe back in late 60s. It was shot and good. What a memory it was. They were from Homburg, not sure of the spelling. Anyways, loved watching and smile whenever I see my gental lovebirds!
I've made several of the dishes you've prepared here on UA-cam, all to great success with my family. I am really looking forward to making this latest one- though I may need to get a shredder first so I don't have to manually grate all of those potatoes! I genuinely love your cooking videos (as well as the others, but never feel bad about posting a cooking video!)
Oh thank you so much for letting us know! I know, doing this by hand is a tough job, I had to think of my mother who did this by hand for all of us when we were children, it's like going to the gym.
Thank you for another wonderful video. You feel like part of my family, and I so enjoy your visits, especially since I don't have to do the cooking or the cleanup. Look forward to more videos.
What a wonderful recipe. Thank you so much for the story of Frederick the Great and potato planting. Always interesting learning about your kitchen favorites. It’s a great help. Such fun spending time with you two!
Hello Kirsten and Joerg! Shales looks delicious. I love your German recipes. 🇩🇪 Last summer I spent my holidays in the Black Forest and I ate some specialities: Maultaschen, the famous Schinken but also Schwarzwaldkirschetorte. I love also Kartoffelsalad. You are a nice couple and I really like your channel. It relaxes me hearing to you. Have you ever been to Italy? If yes, what did you like the most?
Stay Safe guys. Love you!
We always ate bread, butter and applesauce, I still do! So good! I am going to try your potato dish very soon. Lovely video as always. - from Nova Scotia, Canada
Hello Kirsten and Joerg! Your dish looks absolutely delicious. Being Dutch myself, I do love potatoes as well, and onions!! I will make this for my son and bring it to his home soon.
I'm living here now(Uk), but am originally from Ohio and we always had apple butter on fresh homemade bread. Its essentially spiced apple sauce slowly cooked down. I think it probably is Amish which are the Pennsylvania Dutch, so that makes perfect sense! They always served this in their restaurants. Its also available in our groceries where I lived.
German cuisine is quite close to ours. We have a similar dish, we only add cream instead of olive oil. And, just telling you, I adore watching you whatever you two doing. Love from Russia!
My German American hubby of 41 years loves potato pancakes ... his mom always made them and they were always fried... served with applesauce and sour cream. The first time she served them, I thought they were amazing, but so much work. I think he'd like the Schales recipe. Going to give it a try, thanks. Red roses on the table are lovely... special occasion? Thanks for sharing!
My mom was German and always made potato pancakes and homemade applesauce when we were kids. We also had it with sour cream and ketchup. So nice to have those fond memories. Thank you for sharing yours.
I grew up in an Irish/German household, so we ate a LOT of potatoes! Potatoes pancakes were my favorite and my mother made homemade applesauce which was so delicious. You brought back memories for me. I wish I knew about the stand in Cologne when we passed through years ago, I would grabbed potato pancakes for the next train ride.
I must admit my house doesn't seem as cosy since I took the decorations down. I love the way you do everything together. So endearing. Have you got favourite German dessert? By the way Kristen, your makeup looks great today. Wish I lived near as I could cook Italian food for you and you could do German for me x
Oh that's a hard one because we must admit that we don't really cook typically German so don't think we have a fave German dessert but the cakes in Germany are so good (just take Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte).
It’s one of those meals you can pop in the oven and go for a walk - and come back and turn - maybe have a tea and read or do some gardening. An ideal cold Sunday meal - looks fabulous - I make a hotpot dish like that - it takes 3-5 hours to cook (depending on the size of people your cooking for - I make it with lamb ir corned beef - and reminds me of home so much 😍
I have Pease ancestors that came to the States in the 1600s from Great Baddow, England! Two were accused of Witchcraft in 1693; Thomas and Goodwife (Goody) Sarah Pease. They very fortunately lived...
@@karinbergman1646 wow, hello cousin! My ancestors also came to the US in about 1640 or so. Wouldn’t that be funny if we were related. I think I’ve read that Pease is a very old Anglo-Saxon name. I’ve done my DNA which showed predominantly British Isles with some German and Scandinavian. I do love history and genealogy.
I have never tried this dish and it looks marvelous. I have made my own applesauce and there is nothing like it. Thank you for making my afternoon. It is always sad once the Christmas decorations are put away for another year--eleven months to go and they come out again!!
Talking of childhood memories,I remember my mother going to the hairdressers when we lived in Germany, and my sister and I would be given hot chocolate with a huge blob of cream on top to enjoy while my mother had her hair done..The hairdresser would get it from a cafe next door and sometimes as an extra treat a cake as well. The German cakes were amazing!!!
My mouth was watering after you plated! Love your mix and match plates and candles! Your hair is beautiful, Kirsten. Joerg, you made me laugh quite a few times! Take care!
The red lentil pasta looks delicious 😋. I'm going to see if I can find that locally. My husband's mother would make the BEST apple sauce. Such a beautiful memory🥰.

Thanks so much!
👍🏼on the homemade applesauce on bread. I grew up with it too and quite forgot about it until you reminded me ❤️
It's so good!
My great grandpa is from Germany
Looks Delicious
That looked so good!
It’s nice to learn traditional regional German recipes..keep up the cooking!
Your videos are uplifting and enjoyable to watch
Take care 🇨🇦 ❤️
The schales looks delicious and love the idea of having it with apple sauce. Lovely to have your videos again after the Christmas break. xxx
Joerg because it was the right thing to do 😁
That is awesome!
Y'all both make me feel all warm and comfortable inside my heart. I love watching y'all both. It makes me wanna get married again. With love like yours I'm feeling hopeful in life. Thank you for sharing your meal plan with us. God bless you both.
😊 thank you
What could be wrong? It's got all of my favorite foods. Apples, cinnamon, potatoes and fresh vanilla. YUMMY. All that is missed is the Christmas decorations. I'll be right over with my fork. ty
We as old eat apple sauce on bread with butter.enjoy your videos very much.
Glad you like them!
I’m going to try that for tea tomorrow, looks lovely 🥰🥰
I remember earring homemade applesauce at my grandparents house. The Schwaglers. I had forgotten about it, maybe back in late 60s. It was shot and good. What a memory it was. They were from Homburg, not sure of the spelling. Anyways, loved watching and smile whenever I see my gental lovebirds!
Oh my, they were from Homburg? That's 20 minutes from where I come from!
Hi Kirsten and Joerg. This recipe looks so good. Your home videos are my favourite 😊
Glad you like them!
Super cool 🥰
I'm from Michigan USA...in my area we grow a lot of apples. As as child (and even now) we put home made apple sauce on a buttered slice of bread too!
Your meal looked soooooo delicious. I was going to buy some applesauce today but now I think that I will make some homemade.... looks amazing.
I enjoy watching your videos so much!
Thank you so much!
Wow! This is like a giant potato pancake...great recipe.
Lol!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love you!
I’ve missed you two
Thank you!
We always ate bread, butter and applesauce, I still do! So good! I am going to try your potato dish very soon. Lovely video as always. - from Nova Scotia, Canada
It's so good!
Always a great pleasure to watch your videos! Thank you!!!
I was going to say the same thing, or 'Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus', delicious.
German cuisine is quite close to ours. We have a similar dish, we only add cream instead of olive oil. And, just telling you, I adore watching you whatever you two doing. Love from Russia!
That's so great to hear! Thank you!!
Jo
I'm sure u could make it with sliced potato's. Couldn't do with grating all those potatoes 😭
What’s not to love about this meal?! Delish! Thanks for sharing. Much love to you both! ❤️❤️
Thanks so much Karen!
Apple sauce sandwich, yummy. My dad used to make us orange slice sandwich. And we loved it. I'm going back about 50 years.
Schales kenne ich noch gar nicht. Habe alles da und werde es morgen machen. Am liebsten jetzt schon, wahrscheinlich träume ich davon 😊😊
Hello lovely couple ! Wishing you a HAPPY and better NEW Year ! That recipe looks sooooooo delicious ! Good job! Bisous from Alsace ! 😘😘😘😘😘
Happy new year!!
@@KirstenJoerg 😘😘😘🌹🍀❤️❤️
Thank you for the lovely recipe. Please do more 🥂💖💖💖💖💖💖
That looks delicious. Isn't it funny how certain smells and tastes take you back to different memories in your life.
@@KirstenJoerg I would love to try it. I love strudel. Is it the same thing?
Thank you so much for this recipe!!! It is like a giant and healthy German potato pancake without frying. Thanks. Must try it! 💟
It’s one of those meals you can pop in the oven and go for a walk - and come back and turn - maybe have a tea and read or do some gardening. An ideal cold Sunday meal - looks fabulous - I make a hotpot dish like that - it takes 3-5 hours to cook (depending on the size of people your cooking for - I make it with lamb ir corned beef - and reminds me of home so much 😍
I have that same match book with the pea pod people. My last name is Pease so I collect pea related items. Love your videos.
Another lovely dish to try! We had your chicken with soft cheese etc in pastry today and my husband loved it! Thankyou so much!
Glad you liked it!!
Im ersten Moment dachte ich, dass es Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus gibt 😀 Euer Essen sah sehr lecker 😋 aus.... LG
I have never tried this dish and it looks marvelous. I have made my own applesauce and there is nothing like it. Thank you for making my afternoon. It is always sad once the Christmas decorations are put away for another year--eleven months to go and they come out again!!
Thanks so much Jennifer! So true, nothing better than homemade applesauce and on top, it's just so easy to make.
Oh my, don't get me started on German cakes - they definitely are the best!
My mouth was watering after you plated! Love your mix and match plates and candles! Your hair is beautiful, Kirsten. Joerg, you made me laugh quite a few times! Take care!
Oh thank you!
The red lentil pasta looks delicious 😋.
I'm going to see if I can find that locally.
My husband's mother would make the BEST apple sauce. Such a beautiful memory🥰.
Thank you!
