My husband and I got so excited Kirsten and Joerg when we saw the pickle ornament!! We have one on our tree.. as do our other family members! Your research on its origin is well done, Kirsten! It originated in Berrien Springs, Michigan in 1840’s where they had a pickle festival and German American glass blowers made them along with other fruits and veggies! Woolworth’s started selling them and hence the tradition grew! We are delighted you added a pickle to your collection! Your hotel was lovely, and York is definitely a busy town.. York Minster stunning.. all the local details you add like the tree festival 🎄🎄made everything more interesting! Wonderful time spent!! ❤
York at Christmas is spectacular, almost as whimsical and wonderful (but not quite) as Christmas in Germany. I love the buildings, the architecture and the pedestrian-friendly cobbled streets. It is like travelling back in time to the days before ugly inflatable lawn ornaments and Las Vegas style lights. LOL!
The KÄTHE WOHLFAHRT shop!!! Oh my! There is nothing as magical as a traditional German Christmas with all the trimmings and decorations! Thank you Kirsten and Joerg! Touring the shop with you is almost as wonderful as being there in person!
I am seriously voting your channel the UA-cam No. 1 channel. Stunning, and an excellent video as always. I have been binge watching all your previous Christmas theme past videos, they are all so good. Thank you for posting
Absolutely gorgeous town. I wish we had those types of beautiful and historical old buildings here in the US. It truly looks like you both had a magical day. 🎄🎄🎄
Agree about the so called German Christmas pickle. My father immigrated to the United States in the 50's with his family and I remember people asking us growing up where our "pickle" was. We too now have a pickle ornament on our tree, but it only brings us a laugh. I asked my dad about a couple of other things and he said "Oh no, we were too poor for a Christmas pyramid or arch." I loved seeing the shop and the old building it's in. Thank you for another adventure!
Oh yes, when we shared our Christmas tree decoration video on UA-cam for the first time, we got so many questions about the pickle but we didn't grow up with it at all. I can imagine, my parents' parents didn't have much either.
What a wonderful video! The sights, music, and overall content was just magical. Midevil churches always amaze me. Stunning! Your accommodation was so beautiful and comfortable. Thanks for sharing another wonderful adventure! ☃️🎄🎁🎵🔔
The warmth of the season comes through not just because of the decorations and treats, but the smiles. I enjoyed seeing the cat, nothing cozier than a curled up feline! The shop owners were so nice to let you film before the shoppers, it does much better justice to their wares that way, and you don't have to worry as much with getting a good angle. Thanks for sharing your trip, and much joy of the season to you!
UNBELIEVABLE!❤❤❤❤🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎁🎁🎁🎁SO IN LOVE with ALL of the buildings!the church is BREATHTAKING! the Architecture! The SHOP is AMAZING! Thank you sooo very much for showing us around ! I travel to these BEAUTIFUL places shared through your eyes ! Bless you both 🌲🎄I would never want to leave! XoxoCindy
This was a very emotional video for me as my mum Paddy Mawer was born in York and she passed away peacefully in her sleep on 2/12/22 at 88 years in Christchurch NZ. I would have loved to have shown her this video, she was so passionate about York and its historic buildings. She and I visited in 1996 when she showed me The Shambles and we had tea at Bettys. Love to you both and have a beautiful Christmas Louise

that 4 poster room is SO ROMANTIC! I love it! LOVE LOVE LOVE. I love the curtains. and I love how you show us as much as you can but you are still discreet and sensitive to others. and I agree. it is nice to save up for those things that you will have for the rest of your life to enjoy. get quality
Oh we are so happy you like it! Oh yes, when we have a wish we often save up for a couple of years so that we can have it as a present. It's so special!
Being of German descent living in America, I have never heard of the Christmas pickle when I was growing up. I was in my late thirties when I started hearing about this tradition. Very interesting and a mystery where it truly started. Thank you for such a wonderful look into such a beautiful place.
Fun fact York was the capitol of Yorkshire in Roman times, now it is Leeds. Also an English tradition is to hide a Robin in the christmas tree, when you find it you get a pick of a chocolate off the tree, my Grandparents did it, i still do it.
What a most beautiful way to say Merry Christmas. Thank you for this video of a most festive part of the UK. Your hotel room was exquisite the German Christmas Shop was just breathtaking and even your clothes you each wore was perfect for the season. Thank you, God Bless you both and Merry Christmas
What a holiday treat for dear me. Thank you for sharing 💕 Edited: That red beret looks fahbulouz on you. Such a holiday spirit indeed 🎄 P.S. That Union Jack heart ornament caught my eye. And your other beret looks SO cute too Kirsten 🇺🇸💕🇬🇧
Thank you Kirsten and Jörg for revealing the truth about the Christmas pickle. I am German born and bred and I never heard about this myth. I never found such a Christmas decoration in my Grandparents' Christmas chest.
Thank you for reminding me of a city I have wanted to visit since working with the York station masters son at RAF Wyton c. 1975-6. Back on the 'to do' list.
Dear Joerg and Kirsten, this was such a beautiful visit! Visiting York with you was truly a pleasure. You are both so respectful while filming, I really appreciate that . I have German ancestors who emigrated to Quebec in the mid 1800's from Leipzig and it is always wonderful to learn more about German and also British traditions..What a magical place to spend ✨Christmas!✨🌟🎄🎄🎄🎆
My parents’ next door neighbors were German and when they returned home each year, my parents took in the mail, etc. One year they brought a pickle, so some Germans know of it (maybe the pickles were sold to Americans). This was a stunning video! That shop is remarkable. Such a beautiful selection of quality items. Very festive to kick off the season.
Every time we visit York it's like a gigantic outdoor museum. Beautiful. Sometimes I think you two were born about 240 years too late. Your love of the psst style is so strong. Middleton was perfect what a sitting room you two had tea in stunning setting. So comforting to realise so many people work so hard to preserve the past .Merry Christmas to you both. Xx
What a beautiful trip! Loved all the Christmas decorations everywhere! The German shop & the York Minster were absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! Merry Christmas to you both!
Thank you for your great videos. When I watch your videos I can switch off wonderfully and sink completely into my beloved England. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 💕
Just to share. The reason for 4 poster beds was before plaster ceilings. You really didn’t want bugs falling on your bed from the thatched roof. The English term ‘raining cats and dogs’ for exactly the same reason: in heavy rain, literally cats and dogs - who had climbed into the warmest part of the house - would fall out of the thatch!
I remember York from my Green class to England over 30 years ago, à wonderful city, and I fell so in love with York minster, the rose window is sooo impressive! Thank you for this festive stroll through York and the beautiful settings!
Such a beautiful place York is. Thank you for sharing this with us. My husband and I are from German ancestry, and we never had a pickle on our Christmas Trees. We live in Pennsylvania where many Germans settled when they immigrated to USA and a pickle in the tree is not a tradition. I think you are right; it was probably a publicity stunt from Woolworths.
Christmas in York, how delightful. The Hotel, Christmas Market and the Christmas shop looked amazing, top it all off with York Minster visit too. Thank you for sharing your visit with us. I wish you a Wonderful Christmas 😊
Oh my. Your video is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes! Thank you as always for making life brighter and happier with all you share. Special Christmas light and love to you and to your families. Much joy from The States.
Our first Christmas pickle was bought in Germany way back in 1976! It’s become a beloved family tradition carried on in our children and grandchildren’s homes to this day❤️
Greetings from Connecticut, USA. I just found you two and subscribed. You must be the most adorable couple on the planet. I loved the two of you and your entire tour! I have never been to England, but fell in love with York. I love Christmas, so I adored the shops. You really made me feel as if I was actually there too! I look forward to going back and viewing your videos and I am looking forward to what is to come! ♥
Simply beautiful the German store! The hotel is very charming and how nice it has a kitten as a receptionist... beautiful video! Waiting for the next one 😊🥰
Fabulous, just a magical video! I’m amazed that buildings are still standing from the 15th century. I’ll take one of each, of the gorgeous ornaments. Thank you for sharing this dream come true. Love it all. ❤❤❤
Oh Kirsten and Joerg this was such a beautiful and romantic Christmas getaway. Yes, that store was like a fairy tale and you were so lucky to have asked and been able to enjoy if and let us enjoy also. I will be watching again because I know I did not see everything. Thank you for this wonderful trip.
I am lucky enough to live very close to York and regularly visit. Previous to Kathe Wohlfahrt, in those premises was a shop called Mulberry Hall, which sold the most beautiful crystal, and porcelain, and I am sure you both would have loved it. Mulberry Hall was also wonderful to visit at Christmas. It was there for many decades, but sadly became a victim of the recession, and closed its doors for the final time a few years ago. I am pleased Kathe Wohlfahrt moved in, as it suits the Tudor premises so well, and we absolutely love the shop too! Thank you so much for sharing your York adventure. I am a new subscriber, and have been catching up on your old videos, including your previous Christmas vlogs- thank you so much for sharing 💚🎄
I’ve always wanted to experience a European Christmas and debated whether Germany or Britain would be where I would go but I guess I’ll just have to do both!
I value, your videos so much! Every video, is lovely & since, I haven't traveled anywhere, this is the next, best thing!! The cottage, is sooo beautiful & out of a fairytale! The shops, w/ Christmas, are wonderful!! I wish you both, the happiest of holidays & good health, in the New Year, 2023!
Being born and raised in the US all my life; I honestly never heard of the "Christmas Pickle" traditional ornament.....however; we Americans love to "get pickled" New Years Eve! LOL Love your channel and Wishing you both a Blessed Christmas and Wonderful New Year ahead!
Truly a wonderland of joyful Christmas tidings. The beauty of Christmas was displayed in such detail and love. I think what makes your visits so special is that you truly embrace each place you visit and your filming is so stunningly done. Once upon a time.....I discovered 'Kirsten & Joerg: 2 Germans in Britain' and it has been a grand adventure ever since. The most blessed Christmas to you both. ♥
This was such a delightful video 😍. 'Kathe Wohlfahrt' was the most stunning Christmas shop I've ever seen. I especially loved the pickle :) Thankyou so much for all you share with us all . Merry Christmas Kirsten and Joerg !! ~ Linda
Dear Kirsten & Joerg, thank you so much for sharing your Christmas joy. This latest video is an absolute delight. This is our first traditional Christmas in Europe and we're looking forward to decorating our home with Kathe Wohlfahrt decorations. They look amazing, thanks for introducing them to us. Buon Natale
Liebe Kirsten, lieber Joerg!
Makes me laugh a bit when I have my 5 year old Grandson over and if I’m watching your videos he always asks me “ why does she say and like that and says it lots Gramma??? “ so now if he hears the videos he will repeat the word and every time she says it and he says AND loudly. Haha kids are funny.
Merry Christmas! This video has certainly been filled with Christmas spirit! Thank you for sharing your trip to Kent. Would you give us a list of your favorite makers of German arches and pyramids ext. My Grandmother always decorated with these. I have always had such a love and sentiment for them. My mother loved and used the hand blown glass figurines on her tree. I would like to start my own collection of all these wonderful handcrafted decorations. By the way, when you go to Germany , give your parents a “Merry Christmas” from me and let them know they have a fan from Tn USA!!! Always enjoy when you you visit with them! With best regards, Connie
Thank you so much! Oh this isn't in Kent I'm afraid, it's in Yorkshire so in the north of England. Yes, our favourite shops to buy pyramids and arches are Käthe Wohlfahrt (website linked in the info box below the video) and www.erzgebirgepalace.com Hope that helps!x
Every Christmas we remember our stay in York over this festive season several years ago... strolling down the beautifully decorated old streets, having tea with double cream and scones after long walks, time with dear friends and the ultimate experience of Lessons and Carols at York minster... My children and I are so happy we stumbled upon your video that brought us back to this charming town. I love how you put your heart and soul into what you put out for your viewers. You made our holiday season so much more atmospheric. A very Merry Christmas to both of you! Fröhliche Weihnachten, liebe Kirsten und Joerg ❣
Our son and daughter-in-law used to do that for their two daughters. The youngest would always be upset if her sister found it. 🙂 One year the pickle got broken and it was never replaced. That was not a tradition with our family, but it was with our daughter-in-law. I absolutely loved the Christmas shop. I enjoyed so much the entire video. You both make all your videos so soothing and calming....beautiful people.
What a lovely place and you both look like you are enjoying yourselves so much. This video came at just the right moment for me. I just needed a little cheering up. This was a lovely bit of holiday cheer.
Joerg's right, without the table you could fit a short country dance longways set in that room! ;) Also, I love how they turned the facade of the house into a big advent calendar!!! Gorgeous places and wonderful job at Kathe wolfhahrt.
At the German pavilion in Walt Disney’s EPCOT theme park, pickle ornaments are sold and are advertised as a German tradition! My family with German ancestry never had a Christmas pickle ornament until we went to Disney. I really enjoyed seeing all the Christmas decorations and lights!
My family is of Pennsylvania German which came from the Palatinate area of southwestern Germany along the Rhine. The myth of the pickle is something I heard of only after living in Lancaster County PA where the Amish live. Our tradition is one of the Belsnickel, He was an old man equipped with a sack filled with cakes, nuts, and fruits, and a long hazel switch which was supposed to have some kind of a charm in it as well as a sting. I have several smokers depicting this character. I have been to Kathe Wohlfahrt shops in Germany. Many of the ornaments purchased there are painted wooden figures. They are some of my treasured Christmas decorations. I also have a Weihnachts Pyramide I purchased in the 1980’s when my children were little. Thank you for this wonderful tour through York at Christmas!
Kirsten and Joerg, I am so looking forward to your videos! You are really and definitely my favorite on youtube! 😘🥰 Thank you for the visit of the shop, it’s amazing ! It’s like a dream🎄❤️
I remember last time you went to York, you showed us only the window display (I think an Easter one) of Käthe Wohlfahrt shop and since you didn't have much time you said you will definitely be back. And here you are, showing us this exquisite shop full of beautiful Christmas ornaments. I feel very fortunate to be able to see all this, and enjoy it, even if I was only window shopping. Thank you. 😊 P. S. Love the cat you filmed in the Middlethorpe Hall. 😻
Thanks so much for watching! Yes, so so glad we had the opportunity to film at Käthe Wohlfahrt, it's a real fairy tale. Oh yes, the cat lives at Middlethorpe Hall, so cute!
Oh my, that was just heavenly. So much to soak in. I will watch again. Glad you get to enjoy so many wonderful places.Thank you so very much. I wish you both a continued beautiful season. Take care!
My grandmother was born in Sollbach, Germany, in 1904 to farmers and immigrated to U. S. age 19---alone by ship. She kept many of the traditional German foods and lived simply. I love those candle arches....heard it may take a couple of months before receiving, but you're right. A good investment for something beautiful and to remember my grandmother. LOVE these tours. I see and learn much. Many thanks, Kirsten and Joerg. Merry Christmas!!
Kirsten and Joerg, thank you so much for sharing this delightful holiday trip. I have German heritage, we never had a pickle on our tree! The ornaments you bought were lovely. I always enjoy your lovely and calming vlogs. This has definitely put me in the Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas to you both.🎄
Hi!! I’m watching your video right now! You guys do everything that I long to do if and when I ever visit England, I long to visit England and the places that you go to at Christmas time how beautiful it must be. Merry Christmas to you both!!🎄🎁
Thank you for taking us with you on this wonderful trip! York is absolutely magical this time of year! I really enjoyed the shop tour and I must can say that I had never heard of the Christmas pickle tradition before! It is so fun! 😄
So much eye candy ! I just saw Mary Berry's Christmas at Harewood House Every interior and exterior you visited was so beautifully decorated..the time and effort that went in the decorating is amazing How nice to have the Christmas shop to yourself..I see what you meant about the lineup to go in! Loved this video..I was totally taken away watching it Take care 🇨🇦❤️🎄🔥
Watching this in August 24’ From finding your channel a month or two ago, I’ve been catching up with all your videos. All I can say is Kirsten and Joerg, you have the best channel on UA-cam and you are both so endearing, you are such humble and sweet souls. I now have my daughter hooked on your channel, she loves it too. The music at 4.10 mins did make me cry, nostalgic memories brought to mind by it. Not sure what the music was. Thank you both for bringing warmth and wholesomeness into this crazy world. Much love from Scotland.

Thank you so much!
Simply beautiful the German store! The hotel is very charming and how nice it has a kitten as a receptionist... beautiful video! Waiting for the next one 😊🥰
OMG this is so lovely. Have a great Christmas. England is so great🌲🌲
🎅🎅🎅
Fabulous, just a magical video! I’m amazed that buildings are still standing from the 15th century. I’ll take one of each, of the gorgeous ornaments. Thank you for sharing this dream come true. Love it all. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Tonya! I know, we could have spent days in the shop, it's simply so beautiful!
Divine!!! Absolutely adore the Christmas shop.
Happy Christmas to you both and thank you for all the good vibes your videos bring to us all ❤
The German Christmas shop was amazing so was everything you both showed in this video. Thank you so much both. 🎄❄️☃️
Thank you so much for subscribing, that means so much! Oh yes, it's the perfect building for Käthe Wohlfahrt!
Thank you so much Sandra - the very same to you!!
Vielen Dank liebe Ines!
Being born and raised in the US all my life; I honestly never heard of the "Christmas Pickle" traditional ornament.....however; we Americans love to "get pickled" New Years Eve! LOL
Love your channel and Wishing you both a Blessed Christmas and Wonderful New Year ahead!
Thanks so much Cindi! Have a Merry Christmas too!🐑
This was such a delightful video 😍. 'Kathe Wohlfahrt' was the most stunning Christmas shop I've ever seen. I especially loved the pickle :) Thankyou so much for all you share with us all . Merry Christmas Kirsten and Joerg !! ~ Linda
Thank you so much Linda! Merry Christmas to you too!
Oh hahha, so cute and adorable!
Yes, our favourite shops to buy pyramids and arches are Käthe Wohlfahrt (website linked in the info box below the video) and www.erzgebirgepalace.com
Hope that helps!x

Every Christmas we remember our stay in York over this festive season several years ago... strolling down the beautifully decorated old streets, having tea with double cream and scones after long walks, time with dear friends and the ultimate experience of Lessons and Carols at York minster... My children and I are so happy we stumbled upon your video that brought us back to this charming town. I love how you put your heart and soul into what you put out for your viewers. You made our holiday season so much more atmospheric. A very Merry Christmas to both of you! Fröhliche Weihnachten, liebe Kirsten und Joerg ❣
Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you too!
Christmas in York with Kirsten & Joerg! ☺
Oh my goodness this vlog was a work of art! Utterly magnificent and inspiring. Sending lovey hugs to you both from Phoenix Arizona USA. 💞💓💝💗💕💖
Oh you are so so kind, thank you!
Bravo dear sister Bravo! 💕
What a lovely place and you both look like you are enjoying yourselves so much. This video came at just the right moment for me. I just needed a little cheering up. This was a lovely bit of holiday cheer.
This was just absolutely beyond beautiful. Kathe Wohlfahrt was the most amazing Christmas store I have ever seen. 🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️
Joerg's right, without the table you could fit a short country dance longways set in that room! ;) Also, I love how they turned the facade of the house into a big advent calendar!!! Gorgeous places and wonderful job at Kathe wolfhahrt.
Hi it’s Marian what a joyous video, all the things we used to do we now do with you, from our armchairs.
So so happy you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing such a magical visit to York ❤️
You are very welcome!
Thank you so much!
Thank you. 😊
@@KirstenJoerg That cat is a real Aristocat. 😆
Oh my, that was just heavenly. So much to soak in. I will watch again. Glad you get to enjoy so many wonderful places.Thank you so very much. I wish you both a continued beautiful season. Take care!
Love your videos yorkshire is God's own country
My grandmother was born in Sollbach, Germany, in 1904 to farmers and immigrated to U. S. age 19---alone by ship. She kept many of the traditional German foods and lived simply. I love those candle arches....heard it may take a couple of months before receiving, but you're right. A good investment for something beautiful and to remember my grandmother. LOVE these tours. I see and learn much. Many thanks, Kirsten and Joerg. Merry Christmas!!
Merci beaucoup!
Thank you for this Festive tour...the joy ON your faces ushers in the Holiday Season ~

How nice to have the Christmas shop to yourself..I see what you meant about the lineup to go in!
Loved this video..I was totally taken away watching it
Take care 🇨🇦❤️🎄🔥
So glad you enjoyed it! Oh yes, we are so grateful for this amazing opportunity!
Such a beautiful Hotel, cozy rooms. York is one of my favourite city, I love it ❤️
So glad you like it!
Beautiful video-cozy and festive. I especially loved the kitty cat wandering through the room.
