So glad you are tackling a downfiring box! I can't wait to see your review of the sound produced by this box and I'm really looking forward to this series. Especially the ported down firing box! THANK YOU!
My employer had a 2 10 alpine type r down firing box made for the back of a 2016 tahoe for his son with 2 kicker amps and i had 2 8 inch rockforsd banging harder in a small bass box. It sucked pretty bad and i couldn't believe it. Its like it cancels the sound out since its just bouncing up and down and trapped.
I'm convinced that people who can do this "off the cuff" have a gift that not everyone has (including me). I can follow plans without issue, but even after years of watching people create stuff from their head into the real world, I just don't see how it all "works" or fits together until it's done.
Just a great video showing DIYers new products and how to use them. With REAL WORLD skills and tools! Thanks Mark. You keep UA-cam a great place to LEARN from sir.
Soundman is just jealous that you do in one video which takes him 30. He makes fun of you a lot but you're a better installer and have more subscribers. Keep up the good work brother
@@PGeoffLenoir The sub boxes actually came with mounting brackets to hold the sub enclosure off the floor. I get what you're saying. Sub bass being nondirectional and all. 😇😎😀
Crazy you literally have like 5 Tables setup instead of switching the router bit. Sick setup. I’ve been putting off buy a router table because they are so dam expensive… I’m just going to bite the bullet!
What’s the clearance in the gap between the floor and the baffle/subwoofer. I have a sealed JL 10” W1v3 in a regular sealed box and thinking of converting it to a downfiring box, but I don’t know how much to raise the baffle from the floor.
fun video. but like i have requested before, could you create a rear shelf/parcel subwoofer installation video. why? because sedans are now leading towards having rear deck subs and we all want to know how to put larger/better subs in the same location the oem comes with. i currently have the worst one, audi s3 sedan 2015. it has a weird shape for the hole. also what the is best way to keep the trunk space? free air/ IB subs?
I remember years ago...they had these devices where you attached a 12 inch sub to a funnel that opened to the size of a 6x9 opening. I forgot what these things were called. They had a slight angle to them... Think like an elbow macaroni shape with a 6x9 opening on one end a flange that allowed a 12 inch sub on the other end. If you're handy....you may be able to make your own. The funnel in essence turned the airspace in the entire trunk as the sub enclosure. (Free air sorta) Now I don't know what the factory opening is for your application...but it may allow you to be creative and push more air than your factory sub does...but through the same hole and keep it stealth. Maybe a lot lighter than an entire box as well. Better mpg?
Nice build! Love your attention to detail. Is there any difference if the speakers fire down at an angle vs straight down? Like an upside down wedge vs rectangular box. Been playing around with an idea in my head but don't want to waste wood experimenting.
What is the cubic area of that box? I built something very similar for my car (a bmw e39 sedan) and hung it in the trunk. I just want to compare yours to mine as mine is 1 cubic foot (1/2 a cubic foot per sub). It puts out great bass, however I am wondering if I could improve it. Currently it fires downward into the trunk space, and thus is not moving the same “air” that’s in the cabin of my car. When I fold my rear seats down, the speakers put out a much “punchier” and deeper sound, though it’s still impressive when the seats are closed off and has the tendency to shake my steering wheel/seat a little bit. I am thinking about flipping the enclosure over and cutting out 10inch holes underneath the rear deck of the car (there are two 5 inch holes from the stock box from bmw, but the top of my new box covers the hole since it’s mounted to the top). If the box is flipped over, in order to keep trunk space my subs wouldn’t be much farther than 3/4inch from the holes I would cut in the rear deck. Sorry for the long post, but I’m wondering if it might be worth going through all the effort to re-mount my box and cut holes into my car to get better sound/response from my subs. Thanks and great video!
Oh my God that thing is beautiful I'm looking to buy like a 2014 Ridgeline and want to put a system in it and I know there's not a lot of space is there anything out there for under the seat
Mark, thanks for your educational videos. I was a subscriber to sound man Doug's channel but he has offended me one too many times with his joke about transgender people. @@CarAudioFabrication That is really killer. I have a tight custom box I need to work on for behind the seat of my convertible in an effort to save my limited trunk space. Hi with a down firing box dose the relation of the front face of the sub and the ground face have a relation to how the sub plays as if it were close and the sound exit holes on the sides were small the air would be restricted leaving the there for add a tuning dimension to the design of the box .....?, another really informative video by the way ......😊
Mark, im building a ported sub box for 2 12's they are gonna see around 1000 watts rms each, would it help if i attach some pcs of egg shape cell foam on the inside of the sub box??.
Use double stick tape and try with, without. My guess would be not much different for lower frequencies. : if the port will be rectangular also try just the sharp corners.
I second on the question of what was that "modeling software"? I doubt it but is it stereo box exclusive or is it just a generic 3d modeling software of some kind?

Man I cant wait tell I get a garage and can start practicing. Love your videos and I save everyone

What is the difference between sharing a sealed enclosure with two subwoofers and them having their own seperate enclosure
If you want to wire them for stereo (left/right), you separate them. If mono, they can share.
If one of the drivers fails then the remaining one has suddenly twice of room and this may doom the second one too (in worst cases).
bad ass! This is a great style of box too. I'm brainstorming different ideas for a single 12 for the back of my SUV
why a single. if you can do double :-)
How much airspace was in this box? I am thinking about building a box for under the rear seat of my 2015 crew cab GMC Sierra
I have a F150 and the rear of the box would need to be about 5" sloped lower than the front. How would you go about making this box with the slope?
