  • So this is definitely not the most interesting or entertaining video I've put out. But I had a difficult time finding some of the general information and knowledge here, so I figured I'd put it into a video.
    The time has come to upgrade the fence on my 70 something Unisaw, I decided to go with the ShopFox Classic W2005.
    Here is a link to the specific fence I purchased:
    ShopFox Classic W2005 - amzn.to/2iRMn7q
    Update: It's been a year and I couldn't be happier with the purchase!

    Those old saws are built to last forever but those old fences are junk. Nice upgrade with the ShopFox

    To my subscribers: speaking to the camera is still very foreign to me, so bear with me...
    I'm in the beginning stages of planning a monthly Q&A, ideas, feedback featured tool(not a sponsored bit), and whatever else I can think of video. I'd love to hear from you all.

    Great video, very useful . I'm adding the CLASSIC FENCE W/7' RAILS & LEGS W2006 to my Delta 36-725 this weekend

      Thanks, it's served me very well. I still haven't had to readjust it, and it's probably been 2 years.

    Thank's for doing the video. I'm installing one on my old Delta. It's got 3 rails. One rectangular and two angle iron. It's a little different model but same basic idea. I'm very unclear on how to assemble it, as I got it from a guy for $100, but who didn't have the instructions. If you get a moment, a walk around showing how the three rails fit on and which one went where would be great. Thanks again for the video!

      go to Grizzly tools they own Shop fox and download instructions for a 1023z table saw its the same unit.
      And they use a shop fox fence. Shop Fox is a wholesale division of Grizzly tools.
      if you look at the Springfield mo location the buildings are right next to each other.

    In your video you didn’t mention having to drill new holes in the angle irons provided with the fence system....I am also restoring an old unisaw and wondering if the hole pattern on the w2005 match the holes in the unisaw table... thanks great video

    IT looks like you've had the same issues as me. My older Rockwell saw is great, but the fence sucks. I've been looking at the ShopFox because it seems to meet my needs. I'll be looking for updates....and thx!

    I was hoping you were going to adjust the fence. I’m having trouble with that. My model is a little different than yours, but it would give me a start

    What if you turn the magnifying glass upside down? That way the red mark rubs against the markers on the table. Less distance between the two would give you less of a parallax effect.

    • @ZHFabrications
      @ZHFabrications  7 років тому +2

      That's a good idea, but the top is domed.... But, here's something I thought about after the recording. The parallax effect is actually magnified as well, so in actuality its not near as far off as it may seem.

    Did your Unisaw come with a 3 phase motor or single?

    I've used this fence before, its great. In my opinion, the rip fences on most of the older/vintage saws are not accurate and are on the dangerous side. Especially the ones that use the round tubing for the rails. Achieving parallel is never consistent on those old timers. Great video.

    Gives me the absolute horrors not seeing a riving knife on this bad boy!

    Does this fence have a minimum depth requirement for the table? I’m looking to replace the horrible fence on my kobalt saw but it has a relatively small table. Thanks for the video!

    • @ZHFabrications
      @ZHFabrications  7 років тому +1

      +jimmy joe Pretty sure it would work just fine for you, It's a pretty universal set up, although you may have to drill a few holes as the bolts may not line up, not a big deal. The fence doesn't lock into the rear rail it just glides on it.

    I dont know your local prices for tubing, L-bracket, other hardware and shipping, but I had chosen the Standard T-fence and a 42" extrusion from VSCT,,, much more flexible and (I assume) a higher precision.

      Yeah, I had considered that. I just had enough commissioned work, the extra time wasn't worth it to me. I did look into it and it looks like a fantastic system!

  • @bobbg9041
    @bobbg9041 4 роки тому

    you might think about board buddies or Jessem clear cut stock guides for the table saw because you do not have a riving knife or splitter on that saw. 60 to 230 buck is cheap insurance to protect from a emergency room visit.
    you could also make a zero clearance insert plate and add a splitter into it.
    Personally I'd have looked for a used fence on cl or somthing because guys do buy the incra system I'm thinking about it.
    I'm about 90% certain that came from the same factory that makes the biesemeyer fence almost every thing does now.

    Hey man, have you put a 'known good' measuring tape against that Shop Fox tape?
    I bought a Grizzly last summer with that same fence system and the tape was pretty "off". It was exchanged THREE different times it was never correct. So disappointing. I ended up ordering a 'left to right' Starrett tape.

      I haven't held one up to check it yet, but for the first 10-20 cuts I made I checked the board after I cut it and it's always been spot on. I still check occasionally, and it hasn't let me down yet.

    You stated to got this for about 270 shipped, where did you find it at that price? I've seeing about 330 after shipping most places I look.

      Hey Victor. I got it off of Amazon, I can't remember if that was before or after shipping. The price may have gone up since then. For what it's worth, I'm still very satisfied!

      Thanks for the quick reply. I was looking at it on Amazon, but they want 371 for it. Found it shipped through walmart for 338, just figured I'd ask.

      You can thank Donald for the price jump, these are made in Taiwan.
      Almost every tool brand is made in the same factory now
      from sawstop to powermatic and Jet as well as oliver stanley dewalt porter cable Grizzly.
      Same factory even Delta. We almost don't make anything in the USA anymore.

    Does it remain parallel after you lock it? Can you trust it without double checking it against the saw blade every time?

    • @ZHFabrications
      @ZHFabrications  6 років тому +3

      Yep, I've had it on there for probably ~2 years, never ever had an issue. I rechecked it a few weeks back when I replaced the blade, it's dead straight.

    What's the purpose of the 15000ths or 1/64" variance front to back of fence?

    • @ZHFabrications
      @ZHFabrications  8 років тому +1

      You typically want your fence to be angled away from the blade to avoid/minimize binding & kickback.

    • @lylekobberstad8571
      @lylekobberstad8571 8 років тому

      +ZH Fabrications ok, I see what you're saying. I've got the Ridgid R4512 table saw and it has a riving knife so I set my fence at 90* to the blade/miter slots.
