    I'm from a country that never got the privilege of going through the eras of Atari, until the PS1. I got a GBA when I was 10 in 2003 and the cart was one of those hundred games in one pirate carts. Back then, I never knew those games were NES games. When I was introduced to him in 2008, my thought was "Hey, I remembered this game on the GBA! It was from an old console?"
    To this day, I still watch him. All seasons of AVGN would always play in the background as I sleep. That's my comfort.

    started watching in 2008, and to this day i still watch a couple of nerd episodes a day. usually before bed. Something about those old episodes bring a lot of comfort and help me relax so easily. James Rofle is by far my favourite youtube creator.

    I first found AVGN around 2010, and over the years I've learned so much about the history of retro gaming watching his content.
    From the Odyssey to the Crash of '83, the Pong consoles to the R Zone. I owe so much to James and his way of looking back on 80's/90's gaming.

    The Nerd is a huge inspiration for me. Making a whole Review Series of my own in the Nerds style is a fun project. James defiantly deserves his flowers for longevity. I know many criticize him for the change in direction or "lack of quality". I think James' AVGN Series is still very entertaining and makes me laugh. With out him we wouldn't had JonTron or even better... Scott The Woz. James has inspired many, and I hope he continues his Journey as The Nerd.

    I started watching him in 2006 or 2007, and I believe McKids was my first episode. As a 10 year old I was very curious about stuff on UA-cam and I remember when there weren't that many videos on the site.
    I had a good internet childhood watching him, Doug Walker, and Jeepersmedia.

    James is probably the only channel/creator I have never stopped watching or gotten tired of. Still to this day I watch every video (at least the AVGN’s)
    Every other channel has fizzled out for me, no matter how much I loved them one point, I either matured or just got tired of them.

    Literally Can’t think of a longer lasting UA-camr that’s been consistently good and successful on the platform. Very few start in 2006 and keep up the good work and their great ethics. James Rolfe is by far the best content creator on UA-cam, I will forever live and die by that statement.

    Interestingly enough, I discovered AVGN sometime in late 2010, by way of The Spoony Experiment. I was a fan of Spoony's content first, and discovered Channel Awesome through that, where I saw some mentions and advertisements someone called the "Angry Video Game Nerd". I decided to check it out on a whim and I'm glad I did. I believe the "Back to the Future: Revisited" was the most recent video at the time and I found it funny and wacky enough to make me watch more. While many of the videos in recent years have lost some of that original spark, I still enjoy and appreciate the full catalog of James' work and constantly revisit much of it, especially the earlier seasons. The fact that James has been doing this for 18+ years says a lot.

    The biggest problem I see with James' haters is that his new stuff is different, and isn't the same content they remember from the 2010s. His format is going to change and evolve. He's working with new technology, different people, and an expanded game list. As well, he's not the same person he was back in 2006. He has a wife and kids now. He's not associating with the same people. They want everything to stay the same, and it just doesn't work that way if your content keeps running over decades.

    I was in 4th grade when I discovered the Nerd. Me and another friend of mine would watch AVGN at home and talk about the show at school. I did end up getting in trouble on the last day of school in 5th grade for saying a swear word I learned from the series though.

    Are you implying that Modern AVGN isn't as good as Classic AVGN? Sure, some episodes are better than others, but he's maintained a consistency throughout the years that very few others can boast.

    • @TWVGH
      @TWVGH  3 місяці тому +13

      Not necessarily I just personally enjoyed Season's 1-10 a bit more than 11-16. I will say that so far this year and at the tail end of last year I have liked what AVGN has done quite a bit.

      Thats not even a debate, it's a fact. I love AVGN but most of the newer episodes starting around 2016 are quite mediocre with an occasional gem. He has basically become similar to modern Nostalgia Critic. There are many great videos detailing the decline in effort and quality.

    • @jovial-yt
      @jovial-yt 3 місяці тому +7

      True,I’ve noticed that everything that’s 6+ years old is more raw.In the newer episodes,he more or less just states facts, but the older ones he jumps straight out of the gate with opinions,has a short cutscene, or both.

      I love AVGN. But you have to admit, the last 10 years of his episodes aren't what they used to be. It's become too... sterile. It's like getting married and having a baby has made him too calm.
      Apart from all the other improvements in video, sound and light quality, the reason is the same - too sterile videos.

    I love that we still have James around. I’ve watched it all from the beginning. Just like the rest of us, he’s had his ups and downs, bad decisions, whatever. I think we’re currently seeing him on the rise again, and having new AVGN content over the last 2 decades has been something consistent in my life when most things aren’t. I’m grateful for that.

    I have warmed up to a lot of the newer episodes over the years. The ones including Macaulay Culkin and Gilbert Gottfried come to mind. I used to only like the earlier stuff that he did because that’s where a lot of my memories were as it being a comfort food. I’ve come around on some of the other stuff I wasn’t big on over time. He regularly gets views from me just on the basis that I’ll put on seasons of his as something to fall asleep to if I can’t think of anything else to watch. An apt title that i hope someone uses for a lookback at some point is:
    “AVGN - How i Remember it”
    A title style that he has used for a few of his compilations. Fun overview here, thanks for covering it.

    James still is the guy he started as, he got a big head for a while, he kinda fell with the wrong crowd for a while, but his content still shined even if behind the scenes , there was some drama, i think the movie was his worst offence, but he kept the laughs, kept the fun and sure as heck did a finer job than his friends like the critic and Pat, that guy really fell from grace the hardest with his stupid podcast and his books.

  • @raptros

    I've been on binge watch of AVGN and i think the issue is that, James simply grew up, it's hard to stay original forever as your age catches up to you and you keep fooling yourself thinking you can continue to do the same stuff over and over again without reinventing yourself or completely losing what made you great in the first place. I don't think he gotten worse over the years i think time is a b**ch
