Shirley & Johnson in “American Dance Bands on Record and Film 1915 - 1942” state the following personnel:
Probably Red Nichols (cornet); 2 unknown trumpets; unknown trombone, clarinet/alto sax, clarinet, alto sax, bass sax, clarinet/tenor sax; Phil Romano (piano); unknown banjo, brass bass, and drums. Recorded New York, March 2, 1929 (one month after the film was released). Jerry White, vocal.
For some reason, Shirley & Johnson state that “Broadway Melody” was “rejected,” but clearly it wasn’t, or you wouldn’t be listening to it now. Original photos of images. Noise reduction through Vinyl Studio software.

What a sweet recording! Sure sounds like Red Nichols. Not sure whom is 2nd trumpet. Will Creager is an under appreciated band leader.

Thanks Barbara, yes I didn’t really know about Mr. Creager until a few years ago. It’s interesting how the sound of his band slowly changed through the 1920s. 😊
