A hybrid car is one with both a combustion engine and an electric system. If it's like F1 cars, the combustion engine and the brakes, charge the battery that can then help boost the car when the driver choose to.
The Driver is a 5 Times winner of the 24h of the Nürburgring. Hybrid means it has a electric engine and a 2L V4 internal combustion engine with combined over 900HP.
the 2020 f1 is faster for sure. anyways, f1 was at spa after the porshe 919 and the qualifing lap was deffenetly faster than the porshe time. but also i dont know how hard the porshe pushed.
In the 24 Hours of Le Mans, for example, three drivers take turns in a car like this and drive at this speed all day, with 60 other cars in three performance classes.
This drivers are athletes. You can't imagine how much g force they have to suffer, especially in curves and while breaking. Principle they could drive upside down in a tunnel. And the brakes to your imagination..If your car needs round about 37 meters to stop from 60 mph in emergency this car needs ~18 meters. Some of us would pass out after 2 miles on this ride🥴
Hybrid means: In low rpm high torque by the electric motors, in high rpm torque by combustion. But more important, the combustion engine can run longer in its sweet spots. On top, there is regenerative breaking (energy got conserved instead of depleted) and boost (more power for a certain time).
So 919 was a car racing in World Endurance Championship. But cars there are limited to certain rules like power, weight etc. But for that record they took 919 and modified it so that it's not limited by any rules. Basically unlimited race car. And Nurgburgring is famous track in Germany where car manufacturers go and try to beat the record just to flex a little bit
The Venezuelan speed limit on the highway is 120 kilometers. You travel 120 kilometers in an hour without slowing down. The average speed of this lap is a little above 234 kilometers per hour, that includes braking and turning. This means the car travels way above that a lot of the time. The slowest speed on this lap is 87 kilometers and the highest 369 kilometers. Almost double the highway speed limit.
Countries that use MPH (miles per hour) are USA, Myanmar, Liberia, UK and islands in the Caribbean also use miles per hour, including Antigua, Bahamas, Barbuda, and St Kitts and Nevis.
- They discontinued it ... because these racing cars are TEST VEHICLES to "try new technology" ... and after a few years they learned everything they can and "start over with a new concept". - All german car manufacturers have a museum. - The car was limited to 369 km/h because of the tires. [The Bugatti Veyron has a higher top speed, but after 15 minutes of driving at top speed you need to get new tires.] - The race track is actually pretty bumpy ... because you dont shake that much at 200 km/h on a normal part of the Autobahn.
@@ropeburn6684 The average walking speed of an adult is around one meter per second. Extrapolated, this corresponds to a speed of 3.6 km/h. and there a uphill sections too, sounds legit to me 🤔
I was lucky enough to have a close look at a 919 and it amazed me how small and low the car is. For starters the driver has to be some kind of contortionist to get in the thing and the space he has inside is so cramped you wouldn't want to suffer from claustrophobia. An amazing piece of engineering.
Yes, the 919 was an endurance race car - for races that could last as long as 24 hours. The rules changed and the car couldn't be used any more, so they thought 'what would happen if we ignored the rules and just made it as fast as possible and drove aroung the Nurbergring race track - side note, it uses a road normally open to the public, but closd for this, and there are MANY videos of people finding out they're not nearly as good a driver as they thought they were. The speeds are in km/hr, as you thought.
the Nürburgring is open to the public to drive their own cars and motorbikes around. but unlike in this video, they do their time trials with other vehicles on the track. they even have professional drivers there that will drive you around the track in your own car, to show you how fast your car can go. checkout "Sabine Schmitz's Nurburgring Van CHALLENGE | Top Gear - Part 2" where Sabine (RIP) who was one of the professional drivers at the track does a lap time in a Ford van quicker than most people go around the track. the Mercedes AMG One has beaten the 919's record since by 8 seconds.
The Nürburgring is a famous race track in Germany and is also called the “Green Hell” because a large part of the race track runs through forest! The infamous “Nordschleife” (North Loop), but also height differences and crests in the race track make it one of the most difficult and dangerous routes in the world! And yes, OF COURSE we use the metric system in Germany (so it's KILOMETERS per hour)!
Porsche is not a 'luxury' brand of cars as such. They primarily make sports cars. They aren't big on supercars, but they have a hypercar (918). (Yes, there is a subtle difference between how sports cars and supercard are defined). And Porsche is big in motortsports. Not in F1 (surprisingly perhaps) but they are the most successful manufacturer in endurance racing. This car here is based on their LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype 1) car called the Porsche 919 (very successful in the WEC i.e. World Endurance Championship). It is basically an 'unlimited' or 'no-rules' version of that car. Hybrid means its being powered by both petrol power and electric power. It has a very complex power unit (engine + energy recovery systems). Nurburgring is a track in Germany. It is called the "green hell" because it is so treachorous. The track has different variations available. The one used for records is this one, called the Nordschleife.
Some people really think racing for a track record is something you wake up and decide to do in a day because they can drive a Corolla. Same logic as thinking anyone who can run would be able to beat Bolt in a sprint...

@@charlieking1099 it's not about knowing everything, it's about being able to contextualize what an extraordinary achievement this run was. if someone is almost surprised that you have to slow down for a tight corner, even in a race car like this, then i think it's almost impossible to appreciate what timo and porsche did there.
