Manuel Neuer is a legend who revolutionized the goalkeeper position with his abilities to defend not only the goal but almost half of the pitch, leaving the goal with an offense style of defending (sometimes referred to as "sweeper keeper"), and his abilities on the ball (briefly seen in the video) when passing the ball or while dribbling. His most legendary performances are probably his breakout game on the big stage, the Champions League game for Schalke, vs Porto, in 2008 (showing many great saves) and in the World Cup 2014 round of 16 match between Germany vs Algeria on the way to the title, where he showed many of those "defending one half of the pitch" moments.
He didn't really revolutionize the position as Lev Yashin already played like this all the way back in the 50s and 60s. Still, he is undoubtedly a legendary goalkeeper as he truly mastered this style of playing.

Manuel Neuer is so good at goalkeeping that memes were made of him that ask if he is the goal keeper or playing as a defender on the field. Thats how much he revolutionized how to play goalkeeper. He's simply one of those "once in a lifetime" sportsmen.
It's not just that Manuel shows unbelievable reactions, he actually changed the whole game by how goal keepers are interacting with their team and became an integral part of the defence even far outside the penalty area and the offence

It's not just the saves. Above all, it's the extremely good technique and playing like a libero or eleventh man in defense. He is extremely precise - even with long balls across the pitch. This enables a team to play a completely different kind of soccer (as Bayern Munich are currently doing again). Manuel Neuer has revolutionized the goalkeeping game.
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT under the Goalkeeper. 1x FIFA World Cup Winner (2014), 2x UEFA Champions League Winner (2013, 2020), 11x German League Titles. 👏👏👏
Well... The titles don't do him justice. Ter Stegen won more titles, but Neuer is (or was) on a very different level. Not even this video can explain his skills.

it wasn't only the opposing team that was afraid. From time to time we went after his own guys, to yell and sometimes even grab them if they didn't perform well enough for him as Captain.
He sure is amazing. Not only in the Bundesliga - he's been our number one in Germany and the 2014 world championship win was 70% "his fault" with amazing saves...
The one that you referred to as not an impossible catch are actualy one of the hardest balls to tame. In order for such powerful and fast shot to bounce so many times and bounce so close to the ground it has to have enormous ammount of downward-forward rotation. With that much spin the ball is slippery as hell and will roll over your hands and forearms very easily. Extremely hard to catch.
He does have great reflexes and agility but that's not the most important bit. It's actually his "predictive algorithm" (for lack of abetter word) Knowing where the ball is gonna go before it goes. That's why many of these look like he just gets lucky a lot... On the long shots that go into a corner, yeah, reflexes and agility... but when the striker is three feet in front of you, reflexes don't do shit you have to be in the right position long before the kick happens.
Manuel Neuer is a very lovely, humanity and funnie guy. Sometimes he have "einen Schalk im Nacken" 😂 It's not possible to hate him. His career is over😢 He was THE WALL and in my opinion, he was the point, why the german national team was so succesfull in the last years ❤ This are not his best saves....maybe it's new stuff....it's cool, but there's cooler stuff (for example worldchampionship)
Besides being extremely good and doubling up as a defender, he is also a prime example of the German keeping style. Goalkeepers used to make themselves big by spreading their arms out like Jesus on the cross. But the Germans found out that you can move your arms up much faster than down, so he defends the goal with his hands at waste height and if the striker aims the ball at shoulder height he will still get a touch instead of it passing under his arm before he could get his arm down.
I'm not big into soccer, but I remember watching one game (could be of the national team) where he blocked like 3 attempts in rapid succession. That was truly impressive. As well as his often seen forward positioning.
Neuer is a monster . I am pretty certain that if he does not want a goal to happen it will not happen. I have seen Neuer play more or less solo against my favorite team in the bundesliga and his team flopped hard. but in the end he kept his house clean
He's my daughters idol. She went into the goalkeeping position (which isn't something boys choose easily and she plays in a mixed team) because of him. His skills are unmatched because he isn't just a goalie but an awesome defender at the same time.
Neuer is probably the best in reading a game and reading the current situation. He's as much a defender as he is a goalie giving his team an edge over the competition. He changed the role of a goalie forever.
There are videos where he dribbles past the opposing attacker, where he outpaces the attacker, where he leaves the attacker standing with a body trick or where he straddles the ball far in front of goal to clear. Neuer has also often been called a libero. A libero is actually a central defender who drops back a little and “cleans up” behind the defensive line. As Manuel Neuer is a very playful goalkeeper, he often stalks the opponent outside the penalty area to clear by defending forwards, i.e. sprinting forwards. This is a very good positional play. There is also a video from the 2010 World Cup where he set up Miroslav Klose for a goal with a drive straight into the opponent's penalty area. There are also shots where he throws halfway across the field. So he can throw about 50-60m further. As you can see in the videos, Neuer is also famous because he plays very precisely out from the back. Whether by foot or by hand. There are also much better saves where attackers shoot at goal from a distance of around 4 to 5m and he rushes over completely out of his mind, stretches out and gets the ball. Absolutely unimaginable things and then he has the ball. It's not uncommon for the world to be shocked by that. It feels like he often plays as if there's one more outfield player on the pitch. He was the best goalkeeper in the world for many years. His game with Schalke 04 against Inter Milan was legendary, as was his game at the 2014 World Cup with Germany against Algeria, because he defended everything away in the style of a world-class defender. Opponents can only despair. The pronunciation Manuel is a bit wrong. So nuel would be correct, the Ma is pronounced a little differently in German. Neuer means newer if we translate it. I think your pronunciation was okay towards the end. As I said, there are much more blatant Neuer moments. That wasn't even average. He had to make a lot more saves in most international games. Neuer has become famous for taking goalkeeping to a new level because he not only saves balls, but is also very strong on his feet and sometimes makes an aerial tackle to play to his teammate. There are now several goalkeepers who play more and not just keep possession, which gives a team many more opportunities to build up at the back. You can also be a bit more offensive, which saves space and energy. Then, of course, there are all the tee shots and throws, which go a long way and always seem to arrive. Teammates don't have to play that out and they don't have to run. Either way, Germany is known to have the best goalkeepers in the world. Especially among the masses. Basically, we always have an absolute luxury problem in this position. Neuer's career is currently coming to an end. He no longer plays for the national team, but there are a good 15 or 16 goalkeepers who play at international level. There are big soccer nations that don't even have an extremely good goalkeeper. His actual successor Marc-André Ter Stegen is unfortunately injured. But he's also one of the best goalkeepers on his feet. There are also videos of him leaving two attackers standing, leaving the first one standing with an overlap and running past a second one before passing to his teammate. Ter Stegen and Neuer both know how to get the ball over 70-80m to the man and almost throw it that far.
As a German who has the first name Manuel, I appreciate your tries to pronounce it right. Essentially the "u" is pronounced like the "oo" in book, and NOT like the "u" in use.
Manuel Neuer is really a Goat. It happens sometimes that you see him nearly in the middle of the field striking back. That's awesome, never saw this before. He is clearly the best decision they ever made
A tip on estimating distances on a football /Soccer) pitch (field) - If you know that the penalty spot is 12 yards from the goal line, then you can see that each grass cut direction is 6 yards, meaning the keeper’s box is 18 yards. We use the grass-cut marks to relatively accurately estimate distances and to judge off sides. This is why, when, in 1994 the USA hosted the World Cup and cut circles and other silly patterns into the grass, there was an uproar from none US teams, fans and officials. If you want to use a sensible measuring system, i.e. Metric. 6 yards is 5.4864 meters. So if you just say 4.5 you are close enough, which is why Germans, for example, use the term 11-meter to mean a penalty from the spot.
FC Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuers current and long term club, always was famous for having the best goal keepers of their time in the world. However, Manuel Neuer is even outstanding for FC Bayern Munich. He's just a legend. Also ruling out any competitor for the goal keeper position in the national team since much more then a decade. When asking why he rarely catches the ball in this video - this is just a compilation of situations that no other goal keeper would have managed at all. In regular games most of the shoots are catched anyhow. Funny side story: The name Neuer, if you would translate it, means in German something like '(the) new one'. And I still remeber the fans shouting and blaming when he started to play for FC Bayern Munich: 'We don't want a [Neuer | new one]'. I think there is not a single fan any more with this opinion!
British English is often closer, cause Germans and Brits love dropping their "R" in certain words in a very similar way. The closest to right the pronunciation of Manuel Neuer is German. 😉
2:13 this was true until 4 years ago when they changed the rule, it used to be that way but now the goalkeepers team is allowed to receive the ball within the penalty area. The rule still applies for the enemy team though which is only allowed to enter the box once the goalkeeper made a pass. Kind of impressive that you knew that at the top of your head though!!
His saves are only a small part of his skills. Other teams have 10 players and a goaly. Munich (and Schalke before) had 11 players. He can shoot with left and right foot and protects the space after the d-line, so one more player can switch to the offense. If he makes a save his eyes immediate search an option for a fast break. That makes his game unique.
Neuer has actually learnt his technique (closing his legs) when the striker comes towards him from ice hockey or has been inspired by it. He often said this at the start of his career in 2006, when this technique wasn't really known in football yet
12:46 They often „punt” the ball, but in modern football/Soccer it’s more common to play a “short pass game”. In this system the Goalkeeper works with the other players to “build the game from behind”. They kick short passes to the defenders or throw the ball far to the outline players. In the modern football the goalkeepers had to know and use all of this and had to be good “on the line”. Best regards from Germany.
In there is a basic rule for scoring goals: your shot must be "LOW & HARD" It is more difficult for a goalkeeper to dive deep into the ground to get the ball than to jump high and catch it.
It's not Menuel, it's Manuel (Man-Uh-L) and Neuer is read something like NOH-YAH-RRR - I hope you'll now get it (with a strong R accent at the end). Manuel is pronounced almost like in Spanish but not so fast and with more accent on the letters, especially on the consonants.
this video really doesnt show what is Manuel Neuer. These are ok saves but please watch another one, because these werent by far his best saves. this was only like the last 3-4 years
A hard hit ball can reach 100 miles per hour! But the tricky ones are the ones that hit a defender first and change direction completely! That's when you say :' I didn't see that one coming!'
The goalies actually have quite the tradition in Germany with Oliver Kahn before Manuel Neuer. Oliver Kahn may be even more unique still. He has a job in analytics now.
It's a little bit of both. Offense is a little bit overappreciated and defense underappreciated, but the world of soccer will still recognize you. Neuer managed to be at least in the talks of top 5 players in the world during his prime every now and then. And his prime was during Ronaldo's and Messi's prime. So, soccer fans around the world will know him as one of the greats of the last couple years.
When it comes to what you called "punting" (I guess?): These days the tactic applied most often is possession football, i.e. keeping the ball as much as possible within your own team. Punting is risky as it is hard to control who will get the ball in the end - someone in your own team or the opponent. So, these days, you usually try to build up your game slowly from the back by passing to the nearest defenders or defending midfielders and taking it from there.
You just HAVE TO react to the video called "Fußballfans und Atmosphäre USA vs. Europe" (football fans and atmosphere USA vs. europe)!!! That would be so much fun to watch and an interesting insight into the football culture here! Also, thank you for your content, always entertaining to watch. :)
Manuel Neuer is a german Hero. Even people who hate Bayern München love hin! By the way the A in his First Name is pronounced like the second a in garage 😊
A lot of the shots come with around 75 mp/h, I wanna see you trying to "catch" one of those. 😉 For me he is the best of all time, but you can't debate that he is in the TOP 5. "Die Wand: Hier kommt Prime Manuel Neuer" is a better compilation btw. This one is kind of boring and one of the worst.
In German man is never never never spoke as men, a is always always alway a clear "A" like in actual or arm, German is so simple , just one pronunciation not changing all, the way to different, like you in "all" , "man", " arm" three different "A"s, Not in German , So easy!!
english never know how to say it as in english A E U I are pronounced very differnet then in german and looking it up for 2 seconds is to much work so they continue saying it wrong for years ... lazy americans and english speakers i say xD
Goalkeepers get appreciated a lot. And although shooting goals is the most "flashy" thing to do, there are other positions that get creditted way more than the scorers. In recent history for germany there would be Kroos or Schweinsteiger who both are not scorers but excell at defense and especially in orchestrating the whole game to their liking. But if you want to know who is the true GOAT you should look into another guy from Germany who again is not a scorer but a defensive midfielder/libero: Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer. Him an Pelé from Brasil are the only two real competitors when you want to talk about the GOAT of Football, forget about Messi or Ronaldo. Sadly they both died recently, Beckenbauer in early 2024. Comparing Beckenbauer and Pele is like comparing Michael Jordan with Michael Jordan for Basketball or Wayne Gretzki with Wayne Gretzki and try to decide which one of them is the GOAT. By the way there was a time they both played for New York in the same team. Beckenbauer is the definition of Football, and he is a natural born winner.
This video doesn't show his skills. There are way better videos out there. That's just his normal goalkeeping not the really wild moments.

That makes his game unique.
wach EM 2024 - even after his injuries is he still one of the best goal keepers in the world 🌍!
PS: I live your vidios
0:38 at this point, just write it into google translator 💀
Logic😅😅
Man you should’ve watched the saves at the World Cup 2014 🥶💀
Neuer has actually learnt his technique (closing his legs) when the striker comes towards him from ice hockey or has been inspired by it. He often said this at the start of his career in 2006, when this technique wasn't really known in football yet
You have to reat to Manuel Neuer at World Cup 2014! This was crazy shit. Greetings from Germany!
12:00 because they've put their foot in their mouth when naming it and had the balls to go with it
you have to take a look at Manuel Neuer against FC Porto. More than 10 years ago. That was awesome
As a German, I'm happy to have such a goalkeeper, I think it's a shame that he quits
Fair to say, if it weren´t for our keepers, our national team wouldn´t be half as successful as they are.
In there is a basic rule for scoring goals: your shot must be "LOW & HARD"
It is more difficult for a goalkeeper to dive deep into the ground to get the ball than to jump high and catch it.
😉 If you completely omit the r at the end of "Neuer" and don't make it sound, so that the -er is pronounced almost like a German a, you're right! 😉
this video really doesnt show what is Manuel Neuer. These are ok saves but please watch another one, because these werent by far his best saves. this was only like the last 3-4 years
He is the goat, He is the best in the world and he is the moment
He's Goalgetter Legend of all times. GOAT
The funny thing about Manuel Neuer is that he was a striker in the youth team
You have to search for Manuel Neuer World Cup 2014. He changed into beastmode on this tournament. Or Manuel Neuer against Man United.
I come from Germany and we simply say Manuel the way the name is written, no English, you speak Bustabe the way it is written😁😆
When Manuel Neuer enters a room, the room is getting darker.
Manuel hast been the keeper of the German national Team and also untill today the keeper of Bayern München. He is World Goalgetter
10:03 was actually hard because the players blocked his sight and he only could predict very hard where the ball will be or sees it very late
11:14 does anyone know the name of that song?
His name's pronounced Mah-noo-el Noh-yah. He's one of the best goalkeepers in football history.
Our Goalgetters have great names... Toni Turek, Sepp Meier, Toni Schuhmacher, Oliver Kahn, Manuel Neuer.
Fun Fact: Manuel Neuer actually started out as a Football Player for FC Schalke 04 before he became a goalkeeper.
Hard to catch a ball with a speed of over 100 km/h
I always find it amusing when english speakers call me as if I was a manual, as if I had all the answers (I have the same name, btw)
Manuel "Newer" is a literal translation 😂
You just HAVE TO react to the video called "Fußballfans und Atmosphäre USA vs. Europe" (football fans and atmosphere USA vs. europe)!!! That would be so much fun to watch and an interesting insight into the football culture here!
Also, thank you for your content, always entertaining to watch. :)
Das sind allein Zusammenschnitte von letzter Saison.
You should check a compilation of attackers who got in Manuel Neuers way :-D
He punts directly to to attacker for a direct assist too.
Neuer is one of the best footballers ever! But I think that's a bad video. I'm missing his best skills.
In German man is never never never spoke as men, a is always always alway a clear "A" like in actual or arm, German is so simple , just one pronunciation not changing all, the way to different, like you in "all" , "man", " arm" three different "A"s, Not in German , So easy!!
exept au, ae
english never know how to say it as in english A E U I are pronounced very differnet then in german
and looking it up for 2 seconds is to much work so they continue saying it wrong for years ... lazy americans and english speakers i say xD
man isnt pronounced as you think mate xD english A is just nearly never pronounced as german so if you say CLEAR A they will always say a german E
German is easy ? Lol you kinda ignorant. Oder auf deutsch für dich .. Alter bist du ignorant
@@CoL_Drake You are not able to understand, try learning the phonetic alphabet
This compilation is missing so much
"Vielleicht bin ich gar kein random Subscriber - sondern Manuel Neuer..."
1:53 he kept the ball in, because otherwise it would have been a corner kick for the other team.
5:55 we dont katch the ball so often becaus the ball is going at 50+ kmh
He captains the bundesliga xDD Ryan has no idea haha
you only catch the ballistic ones, the shots you block 😘
🎉🎉🎉
He is the best of all time and was robbed the 2014 ballondor in a lot of peoples eyes
You have to watch a Video from his Saves at the 2014 world Cup
You have to Watch his plays against Algeria in WC 2014
It’s crazy to think this video makes him look like an above average goalkeeper at best.
Remember the german wall ?
*Shows a picture of manuel neuer*
Thats it today, feel old yet ?
