Did you have to do anything extra for 240hz? no other distro gives me this problem but pop's cosmic causes black screens whenever i drag over edges or click the power button icon ona 7900xt and dell 25inch 240hz monitor
Very cool overview, thanks for this. Quick question, what do you do for work and what would be some advice you would give to someone who has worked in IT support for several years who is trying to pivot into a new position that considers their previous work in information technology. Thanks!
You can set the opacity for the panel and the dock but I haven't looked for task bars. I would imagine that's specific to each application. I hide it on my browsers, for the Cosmic-term I haven't found an option for opacity but I haven't really looked. :) Maybe someone else can help us out with a better answer?
@@TheLinuxNinja Sir I am already in love with your style. Being new to linux, I was surfing about various DEs and stumbled upon this video. All the best for your RHCSA 🙌 Looking forward to more fun videos!
I just testes popOS current stable distro and I have to say within an hour it was gone from my drive, which is sad because I've listen to some podcasts with folks from sys76 and I like them I also think that popOS is crisp lookong os very clean and nice but I couldnt set it up as windows desktop therefore it's gone. Look I'm an average user thst hates Microsoft and I on linux almost a year now mint/Garuda. But linux has many many problems so I'm not gonna waste time on distro that's getting in my workflow, there's already bunch of things I'll have to do to things work on Linux I don't need extra interference, hell that's what Microsoft does, they get in your way. So I have a question, in this upcoming DE will there be an option for windows like setup wtih start and taskbar with date and time on bottom?
That's a good question about a Windows like setup, I'm not sure but I doubt that it will. To be honest, I would use what works for you. Mint is really good, the experience is really polished and I'm a fan of it. I often try out different distros but like your PopOS experience, I uninstall them quickly because it's just not a good fit for me. Thanks for the comment, appreciated.
@TheLinuxNinja it's actually unimaginably frustrating to know that everything is there to create a monster distro that would attract millions of users but nobody in Linux community wants Linux to be the desktop OS, they say they want year of the Linux but they don't. Linux mint by far is the best experience but Linux community see them as slow and not cutting edge therefore young blood don't want to work on the project and it's slow all the rest of the projects are trash, they have one thing going for them but the rest you need to do it yourself so that's never going to be main OS. Right now I'm distro hopping and checking out what I like and if I myself could bring it to mint. I loved Garudas terminal experience and I'd love it to build something like that for myself on mint with bash and hopefully share it with community. I also plan to figure out how to change ui elements and redo mint menu. In general I think I'm going to stick with mint build it into OS that works
They are advertising it as an os instead of a DE. Hope it does well. Hope they worry more on OS functionality than just "cool stuff" like all the other DEs. Linux desktops are so crap ngl😂
Interesting, where did you read that they are advertising it as an OS? Cosmic Desktop can be installed on Arch, Fedora, etc, you don't have to install it on PopOS.
I just uninstalled it - because I used it on my main machine (crazy, I know) and... once they iron all the %%@##^%^$&&^*&(^&%*%*%&^ it will be great. I does look good... original terminal especially which is unbelievable to have an amazingly looking terminal out of the box. But I would strongly advise not to use it but for testing... not yet. (Love the > right click > choose GPU)
All aboard ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay Crazy, but that's how it goes ... Yeah, I fully agree. I wouldn't put it on a machine I have to rely on. I am running it on my main machine at the moment but I'm also on the crazy train. :) I wouldn't put it on my work computer though.
@@TheLinuxNinja I really wanted to stay on PopOS yet old root partition was getting f%%*ed as years went by. Of course, with (boomer experience) years I had my separate /home partition as well as daily backups so... (I mean there's no excuse but I did try to mitigate as much as possible)
Waiting patiently for the stable releases🦴💀
System76 knows their stuff. Great video, thank you.
Great video, you are really funny!
Thanks! Appreciated :)

Thank you. Awesome question, is it okay if I respond with a video because I have thought about this quite a lot?
@@TheLinuxNinja Yes please :))
@RadarCubed Sweet, will record it on Friday. :)
Honestly kind of surprised to stumble upon someone from(?)/in Iceland doing Linux videos for YT.
Áfram Ísland. 🇮🇸
Áfram Ísland! :) Yeah, 100% Icelandic. Just started the channel, just hoping to maybe help someone learn about Linux. Takk fyrir commentið vinur. ;)
Immediate first question. Can that task bar have transparency?

Ahhh thank you! :) I’m trying somehow to make Linux fun, my style isn’t for everyone but you can’t make everyone happy.
