That's a beautiful kit. I believe Bun E Carlos of Cheap Trick used a Ludwig set like that in the 90's, except he used a 26" bass drum. He always had a huge live sound on stage!!!!! 👍
Thanks for your videos! Love all your Ludwigs. I have a big mod orange kit I enjoy playing. I’m looking to add to my collection. If I had a basement full of drums I’d never come out
Literally my dream kit - so I’ve subbed to the channel. I don’t have a Ludwig but I’m building a similar set-up with a Yamaha and all vintage black label 2002s. Only have a 20” ride though - the cost of the 24’s are crazy expensive.
You don't want to sell the 13" rack do you ? I've been after a 6 ply 13x9 late 70's Luddy tom for a very long time I live in the UK and there's nothing here can you help ?
I believe these drums came in either a gloss or satin finish, it looks like you have an add-on. A quick check of the numbers on the tags should clarify this. Either way, these are beautiful drums! Nice Boston accent.
yes, i added the 18" not sure, i have a 1 owner set and some of the drums have more of a satin look and some are more gloss. i'm thinking the finish dulls after time on some but again not sure, you may be right. thanks for watching!
thanks man! i pretty much only buy bargains, i'm not a legit shop where i need constant inventory. i don't right now but if i see anything i'll let you know.
Sounds like a pretty darn good right foot there. I do believe that’s the toughest part for me. The set sounds really nice. Thanks for sharing and good luck with everything !
Thanks man! Unfortunately I don't, my friend had a white phonic plus kit for sale but I think it sold awhile ago. Center street drums in Taunton MA, he's on FB if you want to reach out and ask if interested.
very nice looking and sounding kit. I have a couple of 70's ludwig snares. 5x14 supra, and a 6.5x14 super sensitive. Supra is pitted and not perfect but thats what i like about. The drums have a history, and battle scars. Who knows where they were played and by whom. Used drums like that I like to leave as is. Just looks cooler to me. Enough babbling. Hope you are ok. Enjoy your videos. Best of luck.
@@shawnsdrumcave what do you think about the 16x24 vs the 14x24 kick? I’m looking at getting a 16x24, but originally wanted the 14x24. This is just a good deal for me, close by. Is there much of a difference between the 14 and 16 depth?
@@jackhartsough3 i think they're great, simple compact design. i grew up using them, i switched to dw5000's then iron cobra's probably 10 years ago so i'm more use to the iron cobra's. definitely want to play around with the speed king some more tho!
They sound nice, but, everybody always puts those Emperors on the top , and that skin kills the sound of the drums. I have a 1970 Slingerland 3 ply maple with reinforcement hoops and a radio king 5 1/2 x 14 snare. I put coated ambassadors on top and bottom. So, I get the full sound of the drums, but, they don't have a muffled, dead sound. I will never buy Emperor skins. They kill the sound of the drums. I don't care if Bonham used them or not. I use what's playable and Ambassadors sound better, to me... I would be very careful when you open the bas drum skin on your 1940 set. Who knows what's going to be inside of that drum.. I'd like to hear them after you put new skins on them and tune them. That's the set that Buddy Rich used before he passed away. His Radio Kings sounded Phenomenal..
Right on man, personally I love emperors, sound is so subjective. I do have other kits with ambassadors top and bottom though. I have a bunch of sets and many different sounds. It's going to be a bit before I get to the radio kings but that's the plan! Thanks for watching!

Cheers

sorry man, NFS but if something pops up i'll try to let you know! thanks!
How do you find playing the kick without a hole in the reso head .....do you bury the beater in the head ??
Typically I do, think the thicker heads with the felt strip out front help a little with the bounce back. I like the batter head pretty loose too.

Beautiful set and very cool playing.

Hi there, I'm sorry if I missed it, but are those drums 3ply? Thank you and kudos!!!!
6 ply! Thanks for watching!

That is the Royal Albert hall performance John Bonham's drum set
Thanks 🙏
Sweet. Is that a 14x24 or 16x24 kick?
Thanks 🙏 14" I do have a 16 x 22 in thermogloss but all my other bass drums are 14" I just prefer that depth. Thanks for watching!

Not running a speed king man?
sorry man, just seeing this. not right now, i ended up going back to my iron cobra until i have time to really mess with and adjust my speedking.

Ok, you’re stranded on a desert island with only one of your snare drums to play. Which one would it be?
That's a tough one! I'd have to say my 70's LM402
