I don't think the watch looks better without the 5 badge. It's part of this iconic watch's history and it really looks nice to me and it really sets it apart. Without it, it's just like any other common and unremarkable dial.
I like the 5 badge. Because its a Seiko 5... If you wanna be one of those people who puts a AMG or ///M badge on a base Mercedes or BMW, then by all means, take it off and put a presage or even better a grand seiko badge on it. a seiko 5 is a affordable decent quality automatic, that has better value for money than ANY "fashion" watch. its shows you know decent watches and dont buy into the bullshit of overpriced quartz crap. and i respect that. So i think it wears it with pride. its my daily watch. i have a sarx baby snowflake thats a 1000+ euro seiko. thats my evening watch. it says presage on it.. you know why? because its a presage...
I can respect that 100%. Seiko 5 pride haha
The problem for me is that the badge itself looks cartoonish and ugly especially on a dressier watch. If it was more subtle I'd be fine with it.

Great review! I just decided to buy one. But I’m gonna switch the hands to dauphine style, and of course replace the second hand to an all polished silver one. Maybe it will have a SARB vibe. We shall see.

i have the white dial version.. thinking of changing just the date wheel to black.. the day wheel stays.. to give some contrast..

I had a SNK 789 that had the same red second hand but works better on the white dial... plus gives a larger feel on wrist (IMO) .... ya got me missing the 789 now. Thanks Eric 😣😆
I recently re-sized my bracelet. I find the pin and collar design much harder to size than the "L" pin. The bracelet is folded metal (janky) but comfortable. I like wearing mine. Edit/spelling

Btw: I like the 5 logo as well as the red seconds hand! :) but yeah it would look nice without the logo as well for sure, maybe even nicer!

I have the Solar version of this (SNE361) and it’s a great sub $100 watch!
I love the sunburst effect and general look of the SNKL23 which is not available here anymore. This is a really nice alternative. Also found it for 67 Euro which is so good for an automatic with that detail.

Got 3 snk seiko 5. Boug them new and at the same time from amazon , in white, blue, and black collours and all 3 of them are rattely as hell, but keep time acuretly and work fine, Is that normal?
I'm such an inveterate Seikoholic that I actually like the "5" badge. Did they really switch to an 18mm bracelet width, or did you just measure it a little bit imprecisely? The classic Seiko 5s from the 1960s-1970s all or almost all had 19mm straps or bracelets, as did many of the Rolexes from the 1960s and before. I agree with you that the Seiko 5 bracelets suck, but l have decided to leave them on during the summer months and switch to cloth or leather mainly during the winter. Perspiration is so acidic that I've seen it destroy expensive leather straps in as little as a month, especially on the watches that I like to wear when I'm running my dogs. The bracelets that come with less expensive Seikos are bad, but they don't look nearly as awful as a leather strap that's falling apart because of summertime abuse. Once, one actually did fall apart and allowed my triple date moonphase Oris to fall onto a sidewalk made of gritty anti-slip concrete.
I think seiko has mostly moved to standard 18, 20 and 22mm lug widths

It’s the same watch, just get whichever one you think looks better. Personally I’d go for black because blue wouldn’t go with most of my clothes very well, but if you like the blue more then go for it

This would be the perfect Seiko 5 if not for that red second hand. I don’t get why they did that. A silver hand would’ve looked so much cleaner. Is there a way to swap that out for a silver hand?

No. It looks horrible without the 5 logo. Looks like a horse without its tail. A fish without fins. A turtle without its shell.
