I do not consider myself a quitter. I happily spent 9 hours setting up my midi keyboard in a way it would work with FL. Learned a lot. But I am amazed how difficult it is to set up this mic on windows in a way that ANY recording software understands.

I have used the step by step instructions for my blue yeti x but it sounds nothing like your recording unfortunately- my audio is very quiet and dull (even though volume is on maximum) any tips what might be causing that?
Thank you for your feedback! While compressor does help to even out the audio levels, normalizing can be beneficial in achieving a consistent and optimized overall volume. Consider normalizing in addition to using a compressor for the best results with your Blue Yeti mic.
I always use your video to fix my Blue Yeti recording 🥰 The updated version of audacity though, has the Compressor settings a bit different. For example, it doesn't have Noise Floor, instead it has Make-up gain and Knee width. How can I get the same results with the new settings? Thank you 🩵🦋
I'm glad my video has been helpful for you! To achieve similar results with the updated Audacity compressor settings, try adjusting the Make-up gain and Knee width parameters to suit your desired audio output. Keep experimenting and you'll find the perfect combination!
One other question, when doing voice over, where on the Yeti do you think is best for the gain knob? I'm currently using just under quarter the way up, but that's resulting in about a negative 17 to 20 dB that I then have to normalise upto negative 5. Would you recommend turning gain up? And if so, to achieve what dB in recording?
It's a difficult question to answer as the ideal is between -12db to -6db which leaves more than enough headroom but also it's about setting the level so you have the very best signal to noise ratio as well.
For ASMR settings with the Blue Yeti microphone I recommend using a cardioid polar pattern and adjusting the gain to capture the soft and subtle sounds effectively. Also consider using a pop filter to minimize any unwanted noises and maintain clarity in your recordings.
Hello, I've bought my self a blue yeit mike for audacity, but some times I use it, it comes up saying error code 9997. if you know how to fix this please help me.
Hello, I recommend reinstalling the Blue Yeti drivers and ensuring you have the latest version of Audacity installed to resolve the error code 9997 issue.
This has been very helpful with fine tuning my Blue Yeti presets Mike. The Beyer Dynamic Fox video too. Might you consider adding a video on suggested Audacity EQ settings for the Shure MV7 mic? I find the Shure Motiv app generally too bright/trebly/thin and lacking in resonance for my baritone voice. I've messed around with both high and low pass, boosting the bass to a 12dB peak at around 100hz, and a low shelf for the treble of about +3dB, of course, but am not quite there. Any suggestions? Thanks!
It would impossible to tell you how to set your EQ as EQ is different for everyone depending on their voice, their mic and their recording environment.
@@MikeRussell I see I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'm not really sure how it all goes like how do you even go about figuring out what settings best fit your voice is it just trial and error ?
Omg thank you soooooo much! I've been in darkness and that EQ window brings light 🤗 with noise gate I have attack/decay (ms) as one value; should it ideally be 10 or 100 or other value ? I can't quite hear the difference..
You want to set your mic quiet enough so it doesn't clip but not too quiet for the signal to noise ratio to allow more noise than signal. Generally between -6ddb and -3db should be ok
Hi is there anyway of getting in touch with you privately, I need help with a video I have just looking for some advice to see what I want doing is actually possible🥺 I'm wanting to get audio of my grandma who passed away from a video, I'm not sure if it's possible🥺
How did you get rid of huge background noice Blue Yeti gives (even when the gain is the lowest). Your non processed audio at the beginning of the video is clean, how?
@@MikeRussell But how? A lot of people found this issue because it is highly sensitive mic. The problem is when we use noise reduction it ruins the audio a little bit, so I am trying to find the way to reduce it when recording. I found advices to set the gain to 0, on mic.
As I say it's not a problem I've encountered. It is a condenser microphone so will pick up noise from the recording environment which I don't have and that may be the difference.
@@sanyacosta652 I'm going insane trying to have good sounding audio on my Yeti. I filled my room with sound proofing foam and I'm even considering switching to a better mic because mine sounds like ass compared to the one on this vid for example.
One possible reason for the consistent crashing of Audacity with Blue Yeti mics could be incompatible driver versions, I suggest checking if your drivers are up to date and reinstalling them if necessary.

What a huge jump. This mic just got way better bro wow
I'm thrilled to hear that the tutorial helped improve your audio quality with the Blue Yeti mic and I appreciate your kind words!
mike russell, i am covering you in HONEY. 7/10 mic to a near 10/10 mic.
Thank you for the sweet compliment! I'm glad to hear you found the tips helpful in improving your Blue Yeti mic's performance.

I totally understand your frustration, setting up audio equipment can be tricky!
Thank you, THANK YOU! My blue yeti sounded horrible when i plugged it in, but your "fixes" made a huge difference!
I'm so glad to hear that the settings worked for you and made a big improvement in your Blue Yeti's sound quality - happy recording!

This cleaned things up for me immensely. Thanks a million for making this video!
🙏👍
This was great, quick, concise, and a huge improvement in just a few steps.
👍
Thank you Mike. Worked like charm with my new Blue Yeti
You're welcome, Nkwawir!
Thank you, that improved my stuff a lot)
I'm so glad to hear that the tips in the video helped improve your audio quality!
Oh my God, that was good, Mike. I learned a ton
Thank you! I'm glad you found the information helpful and valuable.
Loved the video, really helpful. Should I also be normalising the audio or does compressor serve similar purpose?
Thank you for your feedback! While compressor does help to even out the audio levels, normalizing can be beneficial in achieving a consistent and optimized overall volume. Consider normalizing in addition to using a compressor for the best results with your Blue Yeti mic.
Excellent! Can you do one for Audition?
Thanks for the suggestion

Mike, do you have any suggestions for the Blue Yetti with Audition please
Thanks for the video suggestion
But what about sibilance give me some tips?
There are already videos on the channel dealing with sibilance and setting up a DeEsser.
Question: when using blue yeti and audacity, should you use mono or stereo track when doing voiceover?
Unless you're recording something like ASMR then you may as well record a mono voice for voiceover
your a pro, good one thanks
Thanks
Thank you. Are those settings also the more optimal ones for Blue Yeti X?
Yes, the Audacity settings I mentioned in the video can also be applied for the Blue Yeti X microphone.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome
Hey, would love to watch this same video regarding best Blue Yeti settings, but for Audition if you get the time :)
Thanks for the suggestion. The principals will be the same across all DAWs
What tips do you recommend for ASMR settings?
For ASMR settings with the Blue Yeti microphone I recommend using a cardioid polar pattern and adjusting the gain to capture the soft and subtle sounds effectively. Also consider using a pop filter to minimize any unwanted noises and maintain clarity in your recordings.
thank you!
👌
you got presets to sound like lord quas???
Great video. Would you recommend any changes if you were to have the blue yeti in the bidirectional setting when co-hosting?
In order to do that you would have to have a very well acoustically treated space

great video! How about the blue yeti X? Do you still have to tweak settings in audacity or you can do the same in logitech ghub blue voice? Thanks!
I would always recommend customising for every mic

So this works for the blue yeti nano too? these same settings
These settings work for my voice with my mic in my environment and will make a good starting point for you but you will need to customise them
@@MikeRussell I see I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'm not really sure how it all goes like how do you even go about figuring out what settings best fit your voice is it just trial and error ?
A lot of it is down to your own ear but you can learn a lot from some of the videos on the channel on making your voice sound better.
Does this work the same way in audition?

where do you set the mic on the volume meter
You want to set your mic quiet enough so it doesn't clip but not too quiet for the signal to noise ratio to allow more noise than signal.
Generally between -6ddb and -3db should be ok

Would you use the same settings for all the versions of the Blue Yeti?
I would customise my settings to the individual mic
My Blue Yeti consistently crashes audacity. Can anyone guess why?
One possible reason for the consistent crashing of Audacity with Blue Yeti mics could be incompatible driver versions, I suggest checking if your drivers are up to date and reinstalling them if necessary.
the music is to loud
