  • IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!! I finally have a full resolution. I returned the unit to Lowes on day 89 for a full refund and had Overhead Door of St. Louis put up a Genie Legacy 920 belt drive. It works great every time. With the Chamberlain I never had 100% functionality with the remotes. Chamberlain customer service was happy to spend lots of time on the phone having me try to isolate the problem. The only real fix they tried was sending me a new motherboard. They kept mentioning that if I wanted my money back I'd have to go through Lowes (the retailer). I really didn't want to put this on Lowes, but it was the only way to get back to even so I could get an opener in and be fully functional. Chamberlain did say they are aware that many customers are experiencing this and that they have a "team" working on a fix, but I don't have time and they don't have a timeline. The Genie 920 is a very similar unit. Has battery back up, belt drive, functions with Alladin Connect (similar to MyQ and also known as OHD Anywhere) www.overheaddo...
    My original post:
On my Chamberlain B4613T garage door opener, I was getting LED light interference causing my remotes to only work when within about 6 inches of the opener. After ruling out the LED lights in my ceiling, I finally went into the opener and disconnected the internal LED light. With that light disconnected the remotes worked better, but not 100% of the time. Maybe 40%. I purchased and installed Ferrite Cores around the wires leading to the internal light and now I can have the light plugged in and the unit worked okay for a bit and then not.
    Amazon Link for Ferrite Cores:

This fix may work on the B6753T which I think is very similar but has 2 internal LED lights.

My old chamberlain belt drive.....circa 2002 has always been a workhorse. lately I notice my keypad would open, but not close....It always opened because the light is off. light on, won't close... Took a while to think it through. Pad works great (dual code pad) on the other door. Finally figured out it was the led bulbs I had screwed in recently. Solved it for now with a couple of old incandescent bulbs.....

I ordered a selection of beads. installed them on all of my opener wires and 8 foot light fixture wires. Made absolutely no difference at all. I thought it was going to be and easy fix.... hahahhaaa on me!!! First tried a single wire antenna extension, that didn't work at all... had to solder and run a coax cable out past the door opener, put a single 18" wire on the end of the coax cable and ground the outside of the coax. With the lights on it now works about one car length, with the lights off it works out to about 250 feet!!! something is better than nothing...

It appears that Chamberlain has resolved this issue. I recently installed a B67553T and it had good range on the remotes w/ no issue (better than the Genie it replaced).

I hope yours is one of many that works. Only one data point though. Do you have LED lights near the unit?

@@mrrphx The opener has two LED light arrays on it (one fore, one aft) and it is next to my LED light for the garage (about 3 feet away). The weird thing is that the LED array would cause interference to begin with as the LEDs aren’t on (typically) until the door receives the signal to open. If ferrite chokes on the LED array power wires are fixing the issue, then it seems like there must be high frequency noise on the wiring. Maybe Chamberlain fixed the issue. As for putting ferrite chokes on the main AC power and reversing sensor/wall switch wiring, I can’t see how that would accomplish anything.

I just installed a Chamberlain B6713T, which looks like the opener in this video, but it has two LED lights. As a ham radio operator, I expected to be incorporating #61 ferrite chokes both inside and outside this opener. But that was not the case. Using the stock wiring that came with the opener, no ferrites, my remotes work from 40' away. The spectrum scope on my Apache Labs 7000DLE MK shows absolutely no interference on any ham radio band either. The only issue that I had to resolved was making a few configuration adjustments to my router. Keep in mind that ferrite mixes are tailored to specific ranges of frequencies. When you buy a ferrite that does not specify the mix, you don't know what you are getting. Anyhow, the video shows some basics on the use of ferrites in this sort of situation.

In my opinion of you have to think in this much detail about a consumer product there is a major problem. I don’t have scopes and other tools, and I expect the manufacturer to test these things and shield properly for normal household interference.

Oh man…I just bought this exact model based on nominally good reviews. Sitting In the box waiting for installation. Hopefully in the time since this video was shot, Chamberlain fixed the issue. Then again, my unit has probably been in the supply chain for a few months now. Regardless, thanks for the heads up. 🤞

Took my chances and installed it over the weekend. Guess I got lucky. 30-40ft range (no obstacles) from inside the vehicle. Doesn’t work coming around the corner onto my street. Maybe I will open it up later to see if they added some RF management or changed antenna placement.

I had the same problem after install. I found another UA-cam video recommending to pull out the internal antenna.
IT WORKED!…for 1/2 day then it stopped again. I returned it to Lowes and got a Genie instead. Unfortunate.

I’m trying to figure out if I have this same problem. Opener only works when holding it up an inch or closer to antenna. Took the bulbs out and still the same results. We have 2 small LED lights on the ceiling about 12 feet away from garage motor. Could those be obstructing the signal from that distance? We don’t have any info on what the previous home owners did with the lighting. Thanks!

Thanks for updating this post. I noticed in the description that you ended going with another brand and model of garage door motor. I did have a question about the functionality of the remotes after you shielded the LEDs. You mentioned they it wasn't 100%.
Does that mean it would work at certain time or certain distances? Did you have the same issue when you used the WiFi feature?
Did Chamberlain offer to swap out the LEDs?

    • @mrrphx
      @mrrphx  2 роки тому

With the shields in place the remotes would work sometimes. Maybe 50%.
The wifi MYQ worked 100% and was never an issue, but using the app as you approach in a car is cumbersome. I wanted to use the remotes so I switched to a comparable Genie and it works great. Remotes, app, battery back up. All great.

Potentially, but I've been through all of the trouble shooting in which I removed all power to everything in the entire garage and ran an extension chord from far away to power only the garage door opener. No help. I also tried only removing one thing at a time. A few things at a time. Batteries. Reprogramming. It's a long list, but I did just about everything I could think of to try to isolate, and still no help.

Very interesting. Usually the remote transmitter that comes inside the package is already pre-programmed to the motor. Did this happen to that specific remote transmitter that was already pre-programmed? Or did this happen to a secondary remote that you programmed yourself?
