Cast Iron Stove - Lyrics
Where the winter blizzards blow
And the whaling fleet's at rest
Tucked in Leith harbour's sheltered bay
Safely anchored ten abreast
There's the whale-men at their station
As from shed to shed they roam
Carry bags of coal with them
and an old cast iron stove
In the cold dark engine room
Where the chill seeps in your soul
How we huddled round that cast iron stove
That burned oily rags and coal
Fireman Paddy worked with me
On the engine, stiff and cold
A stranger to the truth was he:
There's not a lie he hasn't told
Oh he's boasted of his gold mines
And the hearts that he had won
But his bawdy sense of humour shone
Just like a ray of sun
We live it seven days a week
With icy hands and frozen feet
Bitter days and lonely nights
Making grog and having fights
There's salted fish, there's whale-meat sausage
There's fresh penguin eggs, a treat
But we struggle on to work each day
Through icy wind and sleet
Then one day we see the sun
We see the factory ship return
You see your old friends and you sing a song
And hope the journey wasn't long
Then it's homeward bound and it's over
As we leave this icy cove
But I always will remember
That old cast iron stove - Розваги
Sean dagher is one of the peaks in traditional folk music
Wow. Thanks.
Well said. Sean is keeping it real and keeping it alive.
When the Winter blizzards blow, and the Whaling Fleet’s at rest,
Tucked in Leith Harbour’s sheltered bay, safely anchored ten abreast,
There's the whalemen at the station, as from ship to ship they rove,
Carry bags of coal with them, and an old cast iron stove.
In the cold dark engine room, where the chill seeps in your soul,
How we huddled around that Cast Iron Stove, that burned oily rags and coal.
Fireman Paddy worked with me, on the engines stiff and cold,
A stranger to the truth was he, there’s not a lie he hasn’t told,
He boasted of his goldmines, and of hearts that he had won,
And his bawdy sense of humour shone, just like a ray of sun.
In the cold dark engine room, where the chill seeps in your soul,
How we huddled around that Cast Iron Stove, that burned oily rags and coal.
We laboured seven days a week, with icy hands and frozen feet,
Bitter days and lonely nights, making grog and having fights,
The salted fish and whale meat sausage, these fresh penguin eggs a treat,
And we struggled along to work each day, through icy winds and sleet.
Then one day we see the sun, we see the Factory Ship’s return,
You see your old friends and you sing a song, you hope the journey wasn't long.
Then homeward bound when it’s over, as we’ll leave this icy cove,
But I always will remember, that old cast iron stove.
In the cold dark engine room, where the chill seeps in your soul,
How we huddled around that Cast Iron Stove, that burned oily rags and coal.
Merci,. Pierre!
There are a couple of differences from what I think I'm singing, but this is probably closer to what it actually sounds like ut of my mouth.
@@SeanDagher holy pirates and lords of the seas, the singer of the crew himself answered me! First of all, let me tell you that I've been following you since I discovered your voice in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Your shanties brought me such emotions (and still does) that it's an honour to have even a bit of a conversation with you!
As for the lyrics, I had to take the original ones and try to rearrange them in your version, but English isn't my first language so I might have missed several things. So please, do tell me if you see any of these and I'll fix it!
many thanx for the lyrics. it´s a great help for my collection. smooth sailing!
I hope I can see you live one time!
Yeah, I hope so too. I hope that we can tour and travel and perform for thousands again soon.

Great work Sean. Love it.
Thanks, Taras.
Actually Leith Harbour is on South Georgia Island in the South Atlantic, not the South Pacific. The coordinates are 54.141°S 36.688°W.
👏🏽

👍🏼
what instrument is the man in the hat using?
It's called a nyckelharpa. It's a Swedish keyed fiddle. Google can take you the rest of the way.
Can you share the lyrics? :)
Hi Stefan. Thanks for your generous support. I am adding the lyrics to the video info. It should be done in 5 minutes.
@@SeanDagher thank you so much!
Wow, I just found it. Amazing and great! And in my habit, in Polish with greatings to You: ua-cam.com/video/vnNah7JtD8U/v-deo.html. Originally it was band "Krewni i Znajomi Królika" (Rabbit's Friends and Relations). A vile copy of their cassette tape is one of the most played by me to this day.
