I went up here today (for the first time) with 2 other Californians on our dirt bikes🤙 Luckily the climate hasn’t shifted away from motorcycles just yet. I think as long as people are respectful in the fancy neighborhoods below, we’ll continue to maintain use of those beautiful trails.
When I started riding in Boise back in the early 2000s there were some really good trails not too far up Reserve St./Shaw Mtn Road. By the mid 2000s those had all been shut down with chains across trails and/or no trespassing signs all over. Seems only a matter of time until that happens up 8th St also, especially if land is being sold further and further up the foothills.
I have seen this same thing with many areas. No new trails are being formed, and slowly but surely the old trails are being taken away. A riding area that i used to frequent in early spring (Big Willow 6800 acres) was shut down 5 or so years ago. The signs say to go to Clay Peak (a tiny square of riding area next to a dump).
Thanks for the 8th Street trail update. Want to head up there my self before it starts to get too populated and dusty. I moved down from NW Montana a few years ago, and the riding environment here in Idaho is so much more off-road friendly then back home. But you're right, our time is limited.
I am very surprised to hear that Montana is worse than Idaho. When i go to Montana, I am surrounded by VERY libertarian people who understand the importance of individual liberty. I haven't gone there for the purpose of riding dirt bikes, though.
Same thing has already happened in Colorado. Cali has moved in, it's no longer affordable to live there, the homeless population has exploded, and they are actively shutting down riding areas left and right. Hearing this about Boise makes me really sad. It was in the top 5 on my list of next places to live. Those foothills are beautiful man. I hope you don't lose access to them. Great video.
Born and Raised here...8th St is alive and well..if you want to ride busy trails. It’s not going anywhere. People thought 20 years ago it would go away soon. Ridge to Rivers folk understand we have different multiple users. Go to a meeting. Moto was here long before mountain bikers, hikers etc. BTW the City of Boise owns most of the Ridge to Rivers land the trails are on too. Houses can’t be built but only in a few areas.
I'm glad that the attitude is not changing towards riders. I wonder when there will be an incident and someone gets hit by a motorcycle. Then maybe they will be justified in getting dirtbikes out... The general feeling towards dirt bikes is mostly hostile. There was a time only 40 years ago when you could wonder around and follow cow trails on a dirt bike. Now that is seen as criminal. Riders have seen many many trails get shut down for one reason or another.
Moved to Boise 2 years ago. Just found out about this trail up the mountain. So excited to ride up there. Selling my Goldwing and buying a TW200 or the like. Nice video👍
Yes I've heard they are good for 50-55 wound up with stock gearing. I used to ride an XR200 and I expect a more tame experience. What I'd like to know are where the best moto camping spots are. I am still in shock about the close proximity of outdoor trails to the city. Reminds me of when I was a kid.
@@RacerRed Like Social Security and public education? We've had socialist policies for ever. If you're referring to communism though, yeah... that doesn't work.
Down here in Arizona we have some very active clubs that constantly fight against the groups and government that try to shut down our riding areas. Join your local group, support the fight.
Man I hope Boise dos not go that way, we all up here in McCall like Idaho just the way it is. I have to get another chain saw for getting wood, a de-limber, so I hope to get that one mounted on my bike to help clear trails as well. great talk man, yes people need to keep informed. ride safe
It's happening everywhere. Happens here in FL too, regardless of political inclinations... they're just building houses Everywhere. More houses, more complaints, less free land.
Man I hate to hear how these people dont understand by allowing someone elses freedom being restricted you are paving the way for your own freedom to be restricted. Its just like folks who wanna knock down statues and ban anything thats historical. We should teach history and be proud of our history because it is what made us who we are today. I dont play golf but I would be the first one to defend a golfers rights to play golf. But I am a old white southerner and lets face it my opinions dont count because those who preach everyone has a right to their opinions dont think I should have one. Stay safe
Unfortunately I think you're correct. Within the next decade I wouldn't at all be surprised if the last remaining MC legal trails at 8th street are closed. As a student at BSU frankly it's appalling to see how seemingly the majority of our educators (especially those in colleges outside of engineering and business) use their positions to pound their globalist, socialist, and highly preservationist ideologies into the heads of their students. I could go on about it at great length, and I don't by any means consider myself to be a highly political or intellectual person. Bottom line as it pertains to riding, and in a broader sense to public land usage in the US: They want it all to be for aesthetic use only. Any activities that allow people to get out and enjoy their lives outside in ways that ultimately foster them acquiring skills that make them hard to oppress (ie: riding, hunting/shooting, natural resource usage) are activities that the left either consciously or subconsciously want to destroy.
I noticed the same thing when i was going to school. The professors would use their position to change the students. It was pretty sad to see that instead of teaching each student to think for themselves and be critical thinkers, they were taught certain ideals. For example, one of my professors said that its a fact that people of higher intelligence vote democrat and become socialist in their thinking. He went on to say that us libertarians are a bunch of morons, basically. I agree with what you said. The government will not be happy until we only step foot on solid concrete with our 'worker bee' cap on. In California they have almost no riding, and the wilderness became so regulated that you can't even wear whatever shoes you want. You have to get licenses and permits in order to enter the wilderness. No bicycles or mechanical devices of any kind allowed. A government should NEVER have the authority to tell Americans that they can't roam where they please, however they please.
I know it’s a popular fear that Californians are fleeing California and bringing their “liberal ways” with them, but by and large, they aren’t the liberals everyone imagines them to be. Most of them are leaving precisely because they can’t stand what Democrats have done to the state.
The messed up part is dirtbikers made all the trails in the foothills and onto the front now we have basically 1 trail...but the pot of gold lies on the other side anyway!! I dont think they will ever take trail 4 from us in our lifetime.
@@RacerRed state has only gotten more radicalized since you made this vid. The California transplants are all the right wing extremists who are turning this state into the American Taliban Mecca. Its pretty dusty already lol

Keep preaching the gospel of 2 wheels! Love the content. I need to get up to Idaho for some riding. Bucket list type stuff there!

Sad but true. I agree 100% it’s just a matter of time before that riding area is shut down.
Need to take a trip up here this year. Need to take the KLR out and see if we can clear some trails.

TW200's are legendary trail bikes! You'll have a blast. Just dont try to take it on the freeway!

Franklin pondered how long we could hold on to the Republic. Me too.
Same here. Socialism has become acceptable in the past few years. That concept is insane.

I live in Middleton trust me I know what you’re talking about and I agree with you
Hey is that area still open to dirt bikes?

Thanks for the comment man! I carry a hand saw, but i often find that a chainsaw is necessary.

You will have to show me the trails in 8th street one of these days! I found a few, but i didnt have time to explore them.
You have no idea what you are talking about if you think the California transplants have made the state more left.
Ok, just 90% of the ones who I talk to then? There are good people who come here but there’s a ton of undesirables

Yep, it's happening. They will shut the trails to the very machines that made the trails. Stupid!
