Thank you Tracy ! 🙏🏽 It’s springtime again. 🌼 And love seeing your hydrangeas. Through your videos, I was able to create 4 new baby Hydrangeas from the Mother Hydrangea plants I have in my garden ! 🎉🎉 Happy Spring. 🌞💐
Tracy, it's so nice to watch your videos again. I really enjoy your UA-cam channel and all of the great propagating tips you share with us. Have a wonderful week! ~Margie🤗💚
Thank you Tracy, for making this content. I am learning how to grow and take care of these plants in my garden and your videos are made just for me. You provide inspiration as well as sharing your knowledge. You are a good teacher. Thank you for making your videos with the viewer in mind. That's so caring. Cheers
Thank you for this video. I wanted to order one of these trees, and I saw that there was a vanilla strawberry hydrangea at a local store and now I think I’m going to buy it that and make it into a tree myself. Thank you very much. God bless you. Duane.
Love watching how you trim the Panicle hydrangeas. I finally got all mine in the ground and some in pots this spring. It takes time to figure out where you want them. I actually ended up buying 2 Vanilla Strawberry standards about 2 months ago. They are already at least 4-5 years old. They are the only ones that don't have blooms starting to form, so I'm a bit weary. I'm going to let mine get a bit established this year and see how they look before I start pruning away.😅 I really want mine to be more of a tree form so I can plant underneath. Plus, I just like the look of it better. Thank you for sharing Tracy.🤗
I agree, let them grow out and prune next year. VS has better fall colors than LL thus a very popular choice for many gardeners. My VS standards also don’t have blooms formed yet but they should be forming soon. I too love tree forms for the same reason…💚 Happy gardening Mary!
Great pruning tips Tracy, I’m in zone 4b and haven’t pruned mine yet, we are still having cold night temps so no swollen buds on them yet. I have a limelight and this is year 3, it’s not a standard and it’s in the middle of my largest flower bed. I haven’t pruned much on it yet so I think this year I should. I will remove all the small spindly branches and shape it. I’m expecting a lot of growth this year. I slo have been saving my coffee grounds to use around the base of all my hydrangeas! Love growing them, I’m hoping they will become as beautiful as yours❣️😊
The structure of the tree looks so beautiful! I am in Zone 7 and just pruned mine a few days ago but made a mistake. I pruned it a little late intentionally to push/extend the flowering period to late fall. Now, it is sweating water out from the pruned parts. Lesson learned, 'when there are already leaves on it, only prune when the ground is dry enough'. Next year, I will just prune it in March before new leaves sprouts.
Always amazing the resilience of plants. Pulling thru in such cold and snow. You mentioned you don't feed Your hydrangeas Tracy. How do you keep them so healthy and blooming? ☕
Good morning tracy, your hydrangeas are always beautiful bigger blooms, good information, you should let us know what you put as a top dresser and fertilizers, this is my favorite most wanted video, thank you🥰👍💐
Hi Tracy, I’m excited for the upcoming garden season and all the new videos of your beautiful gardens. Question we are looking to purchase 2 limelight hydrangea trees for either side of our front stairs in our raised flowers beds. Any planting tips you can share with me to make sure they get a good start. Thank you as always for all your wonderful and educational videos. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday😀 9:47
You definitely need a bigger space garden but ur garden is beautiful I wish I had more space as well live in a apartment and we’re limited on space to 🌹 happy Sunday
This was an excellent video. Super helpful! I think these were regular hydrangea plants and you trimmed them to make a tree? Do you have any videos on how you did that? I have two limelight hydrangeas that will be too big for the area they are planted in. I’d like to try and make them into a tree.
Hi Tracy, thanks so much for your videos! I’m debating between getting a vanilla strawberry hydrangea and a firelight hydrangea, and was wondering which variety you’d recommend (from Toronto). I’m also having trouble finding VS and was wondering which nursery you found yours at. Thanks!
Yes, I usually just cut off the blooms in fall so they don’t get weighted down by the heavy snow and break. I’m the spring will prune down a little more to resize and reshape. 💚
Tracey, what do you do once the flowers turn brown in fall? Do you just pull them off? When should I prune? Spring or Fall?Thank you. I just purchased a tree kind 😊
Tracy, do I have to take the old blooms off? I have my first Limelight and it is full of blooms from last season. There are green leaves on all the branches....do I have to take/break off all the dead blooms?
I have a hydrangea tree that is getting a lot of buds on main stem and few on canopy. Do I remove the blooms in stem and hope the canopy catches up? Planted tree in fall.
Hi Tracy. When do I prune/cut off all the blooms. Fall? Winter, Spring? I live in North Dakota and my tree is full of vanilla strawberry blooms right now (August) please advise.
I have a mature Limelight hydrangea that is really getting too big for it's location but I'd rather not try to move it. I pruned it back by about half in early spring but it grew back very quickly and now at blooming time it's already too big again. Do you think it would work to double prune it next year? For example, cut it back by half just after the first leaves appear and then prune again a second time when the new growth is around 12 to 16 inches removing about 8 inches of new growth. Do you think it would branch out again and eventually bloom, maybe a little late, but with more smaller blooms and an overall smaller size?
I’m looking to purchase a limelight hydrangea. I’m living in Richmond Hill ON. Would you tell me where I could buy the limelight hydrangea? Thank you Tracy!
Most of the hydrangeas we have are hardy to zone 3 (panicle and smooth hydrangeas) and zone 4/5 (mophead hydrangeas) so we are fortunate not having to winter protect them.
Quick question. Do you stake your trees? I just received my vanilla strawberry hydrangea tree (so excited). It came staked but the stake is rubbing against the trunk. Edit: I notice that your younger trees are staked. What is the tie you use?
Yes, stake young trees for the next few years is a must. Most young trees need a few seasons to get rooted-in in order to support the large canopy. I use a Soft Stretch Plant tie that can be found garden nurseries. I recently had to stake my mature trees as the canopy got too big and was leaning off to one side. Enjoy the beautiful VS tree! www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/garden/planting/ties-and-clips/111020-soft-stretch-plant-tie
It was about 2-4 degrees C (35+ degrees F) but it felt very cold that day because of the damp rainy conditions. 🥶 Thabkfully it was not 4 degrees F. 🙏😁
Excellent video ! Thanks ,I’m a visual learner . You explain extremely well 👍
Thank you Debbie! Happy gardening 💚🙏💚
I hope I can create standards as you have. Your garden is beautiful. That’s for the inspiration. ❤
I have some videos done about them in the channel. Have fun making hydrangea standards Chantell! 💚🙏💚
I love this video….I like that you show us the before and after images to see how the plants will look later. 💚💚💚

I also did pruning of my Paincle hydrangea. Today will try to create standard and transfer to pot.

Hi Lorraine,
I would mix in a lot of compost before planting them. No need for anything else. Happy planting and enjoy! 💚💚💚
@@TracysHomeGarden Great, thanks Tracy!
Just bought a strawberry vanilla hydrangea tree. It hasn't arrived yet. Thank you.
Strawberry Vanilla tree💚💚💚. Enjoy and happy gardening Do Li!

Me too! I would love to have a little more garden space but I work full time and do gardening as a hobby so for now it’s ok. 💚🙏💚

Yes, if you search on the channel homepage you'll find that I have done about 3 videos. :-)

Can I prune mine in October or should I wait till spring?
Yes, I usually just cut off the blooms in fall so they don’t get weighted down by the heavy snow and break. I’m the spring will prune down a little more to resize and reshape. 💚
Good video,.:;(:
Thank you !
Take the cuttings and put them in soil they will make new plants.

Old blooms can be removed now. 💚

I would just prune the plant much later (i.e. in late spring) to delay the growth and bloom size. All the best. :-)
Hi Tracy I am wondering where you live. I am in southern Ontario
I am hoping to purchase a pinnacle in the spring. Any suggestion of a dwarf ?
Thanks
I’m looking to purchase a limelight hydrangea. I’m living in Richmond Hill ON. Would you tell me where I could buy the limelight hydrangea? Thank you Tracy!
They are sold at big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s….as well as garden nurseries such as Valleyview (in Markham), Sheridan, Cannon, etc
@@TracysHomeGarden I will visit the store to see. Any suggestions for pick up a good one, Please kindly let me know. Thanks Tracy!
What soil do you grow the big older ones in?
I have a lot of leaf compost mixed into the native soil at planting.
Do you have to cover the hydrangeas due to the cold temperatures?
Most of the hydrangeas we have are hardy to zone 3 (panicle and smooth hydrangeas) and zone 4/5 (mophead hydrangeas) so we are fortunate not having to winter protect them.
