Finding Sutera, Sicily

I created a little documentary of my time visiting Sutera, Sicily. I organized my entire trip to Sicily, after I learned that I have family who live there.
About two years ago, I discovered that my great-grandfather, Salvatore Carruba immigrated to the US from Sutera in 1907. I vowed that one day I would make the trip to place my feet on the ground where he was raised and make an effort to meet my family who are still there today. Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to make connections via Facebook with my cousins Christian and Carmelo and they agreed to meet with me when I arrived.
What transpired was more than I ever could have ever imagined! I was treated like a true member of the family… They and other cousins and friends spent the day making sure I understood the origins of my family, the hometown and making me feel so welcome. I am forever indebted to them for their kindness and abundance of hospitality to make my visit so incredibly memorable. I can’t express enough how much it meant to me. I can’t wait to visit them again and spend more time getting to know them and others.
