  • Nestled on a hill top in the center of the Island of Sicily lays the small town called Montedoro (mountain of gold). Montedoro has existed for over four centuries and has a population of about 1600 inhabitants. I was born in Montedoro but like so many Italians our family was forced to immigrate, in the hopes of finding a better future. Many Montedoresi immigrated to France, Belgium and America. Every year in the first Sunday of August Montedoro celebrates " La Festa Di San Giuseppe" the patron Saint of the town. Many Montedoresi do a reverse immigration and flock to this small town to reconnect with it's beautiful traditions it's flavors and it's memories.

My paternal grandparents and father were born in Montedoro, and came to Pittston Pa. in 1905. My grandfather's name was Carmello Valenti, my grandmother was Pasqualina Lanza Valenti and my father's name was Rosario Valenti. There were 10 children in all 5 boys and 5 girls, all of whom have passed. Iam the son of Rosario, and will someday visit Montedoro soon.

Thank you for this. My family names are Marranca and Montione. This was so beautiful to see where my grandparents lived. The car at the beginning of the film had the name Marranca on it. Made me feel I found home. Thank you again.
