This guy is simply the best. Would love to work with him for about 6 months just so I could suss out small engines.
Great video, i’m 55 years old and a mechanic almost all my life. I enjoy watching your videos you do a great job keep the videos coming.👍
Loved the way you left the trigger assembly altogether. That saves A LOT of extra work. Never occurred to me to do that. Great tip. Great video as always.👍👍
I like the tip of leaving the throttle handle assembly held together with screws. I don’t know why I didn’t realize this, but every time I’ve worked on a clutch, I’ve taken the handle apart all the way and then have more work trying to get it all back together.
love the close ups as your putting the clutch spring in , thank you so much for the great detail and time you put in , to make these videos
It's amazing how much more difficult this process is on a Stihl than an Echo.
True
Great tutorial with clutch repair plus all the helpful hints anad tips along the way!! 🙂
Really enjoy your video, always clear and useful, thanks mate
Nice job! Very clear.
Thanks.
Brilliant videos you are very clear and easy to listen to I have recently put a new clutch and drum on my FS55c
I always enjoy watching your videos.
Once again thank-you for another excellent video. I am collecting them in my small engine folder! God Bless!
Thanks for the update and thanks for being A great teacher
I just bought a brand new Stihl weedeater just like that FS 91 great weedeater lots of power love it enjoy watching a video
Thank you, I can now go fix my trimmer.
Cheers from Australia.
Great and informative video Donny thanks!
Отличная работа. Приятно смотреть как Вы диагностируете и ремонтируете.
Спасибо!
Excellent 👌 Nice Direct Diagnostic ! 😉👍
Just had the same model with that issue yesterday. Thank you so much for the tutorial. Saved me much time!
Glad it helped!
I know the handle didn't appear straight with the whole trimmer, I had to loosen mine and move it in a position similar to that when I first purchased it (just a personal preference for my own comfort with handling my trimmer). ALWAYS GREAT VIDEOS BUDDY!!
Well done Donny and good move mentioning those screws did not need backing off. Honesty is the best policy and glad you were Jake's inspiration to start his channel. He has followed your lead and made his videos all about the repairs and not himself which i believe he has had so much growth. As Jake always says there is no trickery here!
Thanks for the comment Wayne, yes no BS here and I'm glad I was able to inspire Jake!
hi , i have a similar brushcutter . also on 4-mix engine, stihl fs 100. I like the work of these engines. Good job, regards
Great step by step video!
Awesome Fix thank you for the video
Thanks, Dony. Yup, had the same problem recently with my FS91R. Accessed the clutch. Spring was intact but the shoes were stuck. Bought a complete new clutch from the local Stihl dealer (wasn't expensive) and installed it myself. Problem solved. An easy fix! Regards to the family. Norm, Toronto.
Greetings from Muskoka!
Great information. Thank you. Great shop. I remember when you were making the tables.
Ahh wow, thanks for being a loyal subscriber!
Awesome work db73
Great video with great tips.
Thanks for helping me out
Thanks buddy that was very helpful I have two trimmers and they do the same thing spin when idle have try your advice thanks great channel take care and enjoy your weekend
You too!
Excellent, thank you.
Hello Don. I just want to start by saying I always enjoy watching your videos on small engines and have always appreciated the way you present your videos. With my limited knowledge of small engines I learn things all the time from your videos. I enjoyed this video how to fix a Stihl trimmer that has a head that will not stop turning but I wanted to ask your opinion as to what trimmer(s) you might confidently suggest for a homeowner who regularly weeds around the yard on a weekly basis? My trimmer which is more than 15 years old is starting to give up on me so I am going to seriously start looking for a new trimmer. I really appreciate anything you could suggest. FYI, I also sent a similar comment to Chickanic and Steve's Small Engine Saloon. I really respect the opinion for all three of you.
Thank you from a fan from Simcoe County.
Another great video 😊
Good video don mate..
I am a stihl mechanic when you get the new spring on you can use anti seiz on the coller and use a screw driver to check after the spring is in
My experience with string trimmers. Usually after a couple of years of usage they're pretty much trashed. Parts cost nearly as much as replacement. Buying new is sometimes more cost-effective.
I agree!
Honestly my customers stuff I always give the greasy areas like the carb and such a brake clean and air blow. Then wipe down the plastics the worst thing when a customer has a bad day they spend money and it looks exactly the same as they dropped it off its kinda a feel good thing for both people and most of the reactions are worth it. Also I got yelled at one time for straightening out someone's handle. Since that trimmer has no guard I often do scenarios where I go into my junk pile find a much cleaner or that missing little part and say look I'll toss this on they are normally say 30$ I'll toss it on for 20 installed. That way machines look presentable and you got added money from your junk pile.
Awesome work though.
Exactly, it's a "win win"
Would like to see a vid on a stihl hs56 hedge trimmer gearbox teardown and possible issues.
Good resource, Don. I have the same machine. Thank you.
typical problem here in the Caribbean clutch seized on bushing have to remove and put a little loctite antiseize on the bushings and reasemble
Salt from the ocean causes that?
You mentioned putting some lube on the shoe arms, I guess at the pivot point, but I didn't see you do it. The clutch is working good now, so I guess it didn't matter. I don't have any Stihl equipment, but it's always interesting watching your repairs. I do as much for myself as I can and I always learn something from you. My Troy-Bilt Powerhead likely has something similar. It's not a all-in-one like that one, but takes attachments, of which I have a few. Thanks
I meant clean it!
Great video Dony, it is possible that this was on a trailer rack out in the weather which can cause rust. This unit looks like it had been rode hard and put up wet!
Yes absolutely!
Fixed a lot of them like that
I di what He did On Mine But still spinning
👍👍👍Thank you
Hey man did you ever uploaded the video if the other thing might be the problem instead of the spring?
Could a light sanding with some emery paper, on the clutch pad portion that slides in and out, help?
Hi Donyboy, I’ve been doing some small engine work for people myself and am curious what you would charge for something like this?
Dony. Can you please tell me what that plastic shaft 90 degrees coming off the handle is for. It seems to small to use for anything.
Rust will stick any clutch system, common on really old farm tractors
Genius.
During the video you said you were going to lube the clutch shoe pivot bolts. Is there any reason you decided not to? I saw you spray brake cleaner to clean everything but that can't act as lube can it?
Surprises are fun!
Hey Donyboy73
Good video. Just wondering where the broken piece of spring went?thnx don
Probably flew out somewhere!
Hi Don, for the 2 swinging clutch shoes, if I need to put lubricant, should we use anti-seize or di-electric grease (i know this isn't electrical but i found di-electric is a super good lube to install things etc...)?
Re-assemble looks way more tricky than dis-assemble, only someone at your skill can accomplish, amazing work Sir ! 👏
Graphite lube is better, it is dry. Sometimes I just put a very thin film of anti-seize where the hinge is on shoes
Is it the same for echo?
Nice fix Dony! Is that issue and fix the same for Echo trimmers? Thanks for the vid! 👍👍
yes very similar
I have same issue with my echo srm 266 how can I fix it
Awesome job as usual, I have a question? Do you know how many turns out from lightly seated a Husqvarna 128cd trimmer is. I'm fixing my sister's and really don't wanna use an aftermarket carb if I don't have to. I want to try this first. If it doesn't work then I'm gonna order an OEM carb. Thanks in advance good sir. Keep up the excellent work
I start at around 1 1/2 turns out
@@donyboy73 AWESOME THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
Thanks for another great video. So did I miss you lubing the shoe hinge point? What would you use as a lube for that?
Cheers from NB
I meant clean it!
@@donyboy73 sounds about right...lol. I could just picture the lube flying out of the hinge all over the drum. That could be messy...lol.
Cheers
Hi uk here. I got a problem with my sthil fs55 combie strimmer and advice to help please... I replaced the clutch and drum greased the shaft but before putting it on it fitted fine then fitted it to the engine and it was tight. Now when the engine is idileing the clutch spins and the drive shaft spins which I now isnt right... what is the best way to stop this happening?
I have a stihl km 131r that had the same problem i replaced the clutch with a brand new one and the head still spins at idle
Best to just remove clutch for cleaning of studs and such then put spring on clutch before installing.
How do I fix stihl trimmer head won't spin
This question is not about this awesome video but about a Stihl FS56 that leaks fuel everywhere even when lying down. Do you have a video that could give me some insight?
Could be fuel line or gas cap
You can actually buy the spring? Figured you would have to buy whole clutch. For curved shaft you can't buy shaft bearing but have to buy whole shaft at 50% price of new trimmer.
I DID WHAT YOU DIDI ON MINE AND STILL SPINNING ?
👍👍👍
👍🏻
is it the same engine as the fs 90r?
Yes it is, the engine is identical, the main differences are in the case and shutoff switch.
❤❤
Needs a deflector.
It's not often them springs break
This one has a million miles on it!
$10, if you have the right tools
Nice I had one doing that
Judging by all that rust, it looks like that machine was dunked in salt water.
🙂 gracias por tu video 🛠🔧🔩⚙🙏
de nada!
