At age 3 she was abused by her birth mother and beaten and left on the straight with bruises and broken collarbone. She ended up in an orphanage and was adopted by one of the workers she could not speak because of the trauma at age 5 so they decided to give her singing lessons thinking it might help her learn to speak.They discovered that she had this hidden talent and music as what re-ability did her along with the love and support of her adopted mother.

During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.

Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
In 2017 Diana went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition. A door had closed but a new door opened...
Diana entered another competition in 2018 and 2019 and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The project producers help the finalists start studying and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship to the College of Music. Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment in Moscow.
2020 Diana graduated from high school a year earlier with honor, as an external student and now, she is a student at the legendary Russian State Institute of Theater and Variety Arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS). She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own song soon.

I call Diana, "The Girl With Two Voices". There is a man with that same dual voice; Freddy Sahin-Scholl. He sang 'Carpe Diem'(seize the day')at a European contest which he won with that song. You might want to watch that video. The man was in his late 50s at that time which makes his performance all the more astonishing.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on UA-cam.
Two weeks ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of UA-cam 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation.
Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German and Arabic.

I liked your honest reaction and comments. As for the Russian pronounciation of the first name and the last name - it can be explained liked that. Dee-ana, not Dye-ana. The most difficult part is the last name. It sounds something like that using a kind of English approach to this: Un-koo-dee-nah-vah. The stress falls on "dee" (3rd syllable).
Diana's first name is pronounced with a long E instead of an I. Her last name for an American or Canadian speaker would be pronounced awn-koo-DEE-nova.
Diana is actually a full-on Contralto and she can go deeper than anything I ever heard from Cher. This song did not show off EVERYTHING that Diana can do, but that was not the point with this. It is a BEAUTIFUL and haunting rendition of a great song. :)
I don't mind if native english speakers take their vocal pronounciation or the continental style. Both the same name.
@@wonderfalg Yes but if you see somebody on the street and mispronounce their name, they either don't even realize you are talking to them or they decide you are not worth their time if you can't or won't bother to get it right. You will be ignored by many people. SOME people might realize that you want their attention and a few will actually be nice and gently try to correct your pronunciation so that (if there is a next time) you will actually get their attention. These days, NICE people are RARE when dealing with strangers so it is absolutely important to try your best to get it right the first time. I hope you can understand this. It's about respect as much as it is about hearing THEIR name and not somebody else's name being called.
